  • Video games can be a window to another world and can make us think about things in different ways. But does that mean we can blame them specifically for individual events? Well, at very least, not for these - but that didn't stop the media!

You know, this reminds me of a scene from Malcolm in The Middle, where he and one of his brothers were playing Mortal Kombat and they were being nice and polite to each other. Then their mom came, took the game away yelling that these games will make them violent. About ten seconds after she took the game away they started beating the shit out of each other.

The thing that sucks more is that movies and tv shows are just as violent if not more violent. But since everyone in society liked movies and tv they never blame what they like. But video games. Oh yeah those things got to go. That's the thing that is most annoying. And also when people complain you spend like 6 or 7 hours gaming. But yet the person complaining literally just got done watching 2 or 3 movies that are about 2 hours each. Man that kind of shiz grinds my gears to no end. Like you can sit there and watch tv but I cant sit here and play video games. Bet if I was watching tv. No one would say a word. Mannnnnnn.

In a way, it's an scapegoat for them too. They blame video games because they don't want to confess being the problem in someone's life, just as gamers use games to get away from life issues.
The cold reality is that nobody wants to deal with their life for various reasons and just want to... Stop existing for a few moments into another "world" through a screen.
Can't blame the gamers, but I think the rational adults should at least be the logical side to convince people that the world can get better outside of gaming, but alas. This is a view that nobody will follow best.

You know, I saw The Lion King when I was seven years old. and I never once threw my brother off a cliff and then tried to frame his son for it. I didn't even try. This coming from a society that used to broadly enslave other human beings. One that did and does still go to battle over political and religious differences. Kittens fight - sometimes too aggressively - and so do kids. Violence is part of life, and in kids, it is unfortunately part of the process of learning who you are. It's not an accident that violence is in almost every story ever told in every single medium. Even sports are just a dumbed down version of battle. Just look at football which is practically a reenactment of war proceeding the turn of the 20th century. What we are seeing is a rise in mental illness among other things. We need to look at why that is, and not just say "because video games" which is just simply another way of showing the same story we've been telling since we became human. I'm probably wrong on many counts, but at least I'm trying to break it down. And no, we should not just accept violence. Video games, if anything, are a means to blow of steam that could otherwise become physically violent behavior. And sometimes that doesn't work and monitors go to the great Best Buy in the sky.

Violence is encoded into our DNA. Humans have ALWAYS fought since the beginning of time no matter HOW you look at history. In every religious text going back to the beginning there's violence. In evolution there's survival of the fittest. So why are people trying to blame video games, music, movies and tv???? Humans fight from a young age and we are SUPPOSED to be taught by grown ups how to properly behave. But most of the times you'll have everyone playing the blame game and nothing really changes. To be honest the violence today is rather tame compared to our past when entire towns, villages and cities would get wiped out for reasons that we find completely stupid today but were incredibly important back then.

They get outraged about some tragic and violent act and blame video games and then some person in the political sphere steps in and see's it as an opportunity to gather support. Rally's people, works people up even more and pushes the agenda hard that its video games but is really only after their own political position. Then nothing ever comes of it, things die down, until the next tragic event where the process repeats.

There's two main issues we need to address as first world nations.
    One -
We need to hold our governments, teachers, and parents accountable for the violence in children. You let a child get bullied then act suprised when they snap and lash out either with a knife or guns? You've failed as a teacher. You act suprised that your child managed to get knives and guns? You've failed as a parent. You don't put down any legislation to protect these children from the incompetent teachers and parents? You've failed as a government. Don't blame video games for your incompetent behaviour.
    Two -
Yes, video games CAN cause psychological changes in the brain, and while most are positive, some are negative. Parents must be the ones that handle this. Don't give your children games they aren't ready for. A 7-year-old shouldn't play GTA, so do your research before you buy the game. Teach your children how to react to these stimuli correctly, and teach them the difference between fact and fiction. The best way to protect children from the very few negative effects of video games is to set aside time (at least three hours) for you and your child to play the game together, even if you just sit and watch. Then discuss what's going on in the game. But pay attention to the game, help your child with the difficult puzzles, but still allow them to get to the solution on their own. This method results in a deeper understanding of your child, and your child will be less likely to lash out. Trust me, it works and you will become great friends with your child, and they will be less likely to misbehave and ignore you.

I play games as a comfort and calming outlet for when my negative emotions start to run really high and helps pick me up when I have a bad day. Me and my brothers were beating the shit out of each other long before we had video games, and it arguably gave us something we all liked doing to bond over. It may be conincidense since the older you get the less you fight with siblings on average, but we definetly fought well before we had gaming, and it's something we still to this day bond over, even though we are half way across the world from each other
