  • E46 tailight replacement in 325ci. This is one of the first projects I have one on this new to me BMW 325ci. It has a lot of little projects, so stay tuned to learn a few tricks along the way. The convertible and the 2 door coupe share a lot of parts that do not fit on the sedans, so be sure you are getting the right stuff if you are sourcing parts for these cars.

    Bought myself a project as well, 2002 325ci convertible, same color as yours. It’s been challenging,

      what's the challenge? fix the cooling system... clean the heck out of it... find the broken parts... find the used parts in better condition than yours... replace them... break more parts fixing the broken parts... curse BMW for using crappy plastic parts that break... spend more than the car is worth buying OEM parts to fix broken parts.... sell project with a bunch of new parts after it finally blows up.

    Do you know of the tail lights from a 330 coupe would fit on 325ci convertible?

    • @robdude1969
      @robdude1969  Před 2 lety

      The years must be correct. I believe the shape is the same. You must match plugs. Leds are in later models and traditional bulbs are on earlier ones.

    Hey rob, quick question. I bought 2002 325ci. Driver taillight, the actually plug in part (the black plug that goes in the back of tailight) looks like it got burnt out, if I cut that piece out and put a new one on it, it should work?

    • @robdude1969
      @robdude1969  Před 2 lety

      With a burnt plug, you must ask what shorted it out? You might get lucky. Check eBay or Facebook marketplace for parts.

      @@robdude1969 well the ground slot got shorted (this happens a lot of these cars) and I actually found a great video to fix it. I’ll post it here and hopefully helps others if they come across this issue.. czcams.com/video/uzAXJisC1hI/video.html

      @@jjpimpsu1 are yours LEDs on that year? I had one that did some funky stuff and the plug was bad. Brakes went on when turn signal used etc. Had to replace whole unit. Good luck.

      @@robdude1969 no they aren’t LEDs. Regular bulbs

    Can you not just change the bulb instead of the whole light.???

    • @robdude1969
      @robdude1969  Před 2 lety +1

      Not on this set. These are LEDs. There is a light unit sealed inside the housing. You must also be sure the plug on the back is the same as they vary from year to year. They are different on coupes and sedans as well. Be sure to get the correct one for your year and model.

      @robdude1969 I ran into the different connectors on the 2003 325ci, with the primary having a six pin connector and the light having an eight pin. I looked for adapters on an oem bmw site and found them for $32.00 less shipping and tax. I'm going that route since the mess of spaghetti wiring on the old lights main board would be a hassle to redo. They wanted new lights and ponyed up $450, so $75.00 more to do it right is the price for having a 21 uear old BMW with only 68,000 miles on it.
