My ex husband was a womanizer and narcissist. The day I gave birth to his child he celebrated that night with a woman in bed. The woman was someone I knew. Pack his stuff and threw him out. At divorce hearing I said you won't have to pay child support if you stay out of our child's life permanently and legally. He signed. Never saw him again.

After my divorce from my womanizer/ narcissist husband I had a very difficult time trusting anyone including friends and acquaintances. Since it was a so called friend that went to bed with my ex husband while I was in the hospital from the delivery of his child. When I threw him out. I had to learn to trust myself. That no matter how much he tried to blame me. It was not my fault for him hoping into bed with my so call friend. I got therapy. Because I knew I had to learn to trust again and get rid of some of my deep anger. I had the kind of anger where I could hurt him if he had crossed my path. Well it took time in therapy but it was worth it. A person like my EX husband can destroy the soul of their spouse or partner.
I know that very same kind of gut wrenching pain and betrayal, very similar to what you went through. My ex and I were living together when I found out he was seeing someone he worked with right after he had asked me to marry him. I was devastated. We got into a huge fight, he was 6’4”, I was 5’4”. He started kicking me and punching me in the stomach, never in the face because he wanted our friends to think he was so wonderful and I must be crazy, actually they were his friends. My friends believed me and wondered why I stayed. Another story, “why do women stay”. Our phone was in my name so I had it disconnected (this was before cell phones) so he couldn’t sit at home and talk to her while I was at work, she lived about an hr away. I knew that was one way to get him to move out quickly! After I kicked him out, I found out that I was pregnant. He was with her throughout my pregnancy. He eventually decided that he wanted to be involved, I didn’t want him around! His girlfriend had the audacity to call me and ask me if I thought by having the baby it would keep him around! I was blown away, I knew she had to be young, I was 31, no other children. I told her YOU CAN HAVE HIM! He was standing right there! She wanted to drive up to my house when he was there and tell him to make a choice! I said you both deserve each other! Anyway, a lot of painful years, our son is now 38, I encouraged him to have a relationship with his son, but he couldn’t handle being around me because I dumped him! His narcissistic bruised ego! Once again he hurt me and our son because he walked out of his life!
Wow I’m so sorry both of y’all went through what you went through. I’m going through this myself and it’s been pure hell. I isolate and don’t leave the house much. It’s changed me so much. I went through narcissistic abuse for ten years.

Faking a smile is NOT always good; it can cause depression if a person is always fake smiling and suppressing or repressing other emotions or parts of themselves. What's healing for people is to not have to fake a smile and to be able to bring their raw emotions to the surface with someone they feel safe with to admit what they've been going through and to release that emotion so that they are being true to themselves instead of suppressing the deep things they've been going through, which is a form of self-betrayal and causes a disconnect within one's self, thus contributing to depression.

I had (read: HAD) a girlfriend whom I first thought was terrific. Their long term marriage augmented mine. But over time I realized she was horribly insecure and wanted people around constantly, the prettier and younger the better. Her sons and their girlfriends moved out - disaster!! This woman wanted her husband to be endlessly stimulated by their youth and looks so he would turn to her for sex later that night. She was aging and had a constant need to be all fixed up for him. Of course he cheated, all the time. She preferred to stay married, scared and miserable just to remain married to him. What a horrible painful life she had!!

Without exception, as soon as the wife was out of sight, the men took their shot.
