      I’ve owned both and I agree…usually people are brand loyalists by whatever their family has always owned. And another point in my opinion Chevy is very popular in racing because their parts are so interchangeable and simple therefore cost are greatly reduced. On old school V8’s for instance the water pump on a Ford has multiple bolts of varying length the Chevy 4 bolts and bam you’re done.

      @@timothycarey3883 really the only difference is, a stock Chevy 350 block and rotating assembly can reliably handle somewhere between 500-600hp, while the Windsor has been known to handle 750+ with a stock block and crank. Not saying there aren’t outliers that can survive that, but 750hp on a stock block 350 is definitely pushing your luck, 4 bolt mains or no. Obviously, most people don’t have pockets that deep, and aren’t going to be seeing those numbers anytime soon, so it doesn’t make much difference in a street car. But for someone building a serious race car, it gives you a little extra leeway, before dumping out the $ for a dart or eagle forged block.

    • @marksiniard9731
      @marksiniard9731 Před rokem +2

      The Cleveland has a weaker block than the Windsor. However, I think the main reason for running a Windsor in this test is, to keep both engines with inline valve heads so that one doesn't have a huge advantage over the other.

    • @vitoaugello1677
      @vitoaugello1677 Před 28 dny +1

      If they’re just run of the mill blocks. They both have 2 bolt main caps the difference is the heads, where the Cleveland is superior with larger and canted valves. However in this form I bet they’re similar with no great difference. The ford needs higher rpm to work properly. So testing parameters are everything.

      Cleveland versus Windsor? I have a Torino 1974 with a built 351 Windsor. aftermarket heads oversize valves. the only difference between Cleveland and Windsor stock is that the Cleveland flows better through the heads. Aftermarket parts eliminated that Advantage. Windsor's have a much better oiling system. I would take a Windsor all day long. For the record I haven't been beatn on the street anytime lately. 430 gears and a built Gear star transmission 315 35-17 Nittos in the back. 3000 stall converter. smoked a 392 scatpack last week. if you build those two valve 351 Windsor's right they can compete with anything. Roller blocks split easy. The non roller block is better but with a roller cam and those expensive tie bar lifters. You can get much higher rpm with that combination

    He said short blocks.
    Then carb. Then ignition, intake manifold, and cam.
    Valves and ports are important.

    Why didn’t you use the 351 Cleveland?

    • @kevinfox500
      @kevinfox500 Před rokem +1

      Because they wanted to give that Chevy a chance. Out of the box, the 351C would decimate that SBC. Add performace parts, both would make way more than stock. The Ford would always make more power.
      The other tjing is, finding a 351C, compared to a Windsor. Way more Windsors out there now, compared to Clevelands.
      Production of the Cleveland blocks ended in the 70s. Most of those cars, and components, are long since shredded, crushed, or melted down.
