The last two games are era defining. This is the world we live in now.
The last 2 were definitely worthy of a museum exhibit someday!
3 months later we still haven't seen a match as good as this one
@@DanielSong39 except the reverse sweep happened in the CTWC Finals in Portland.
@@bigwildcat2020 It was a great match and the champion played great, and it was a great event.
However the strength of field and quality of play was not as high as CTM Mega Masters
@@DanielSong39Don’t worry, I’ll make a match exciting again
Whenever I'd see Tommy on the ELO chart, I always thought he was overrated because he doesn't compete much. Proven wrong
He blew me away through every one of these episodes.
Hahaha, I had the same. I guess it's the un-familiarity bias or however it's called.
The same as to why it hurts you when something bad happens to your closed one, but you mostly don't care if death, harm & evil are running wild in the further unknown environment.
But good to be proven wrong in the style Tommy did.
@@Peace_Guard I just assumed that he was overrated because he gained his points before the last ramp of talent.
I have consistently believed he’s been one of the best players in the world for the last 2 years. He’s absolutely crazy
Is there a live elo list somewhere?
26:18 Game 4 begins
38:44 Game 5
50:21 Cheese appears
50:24 Cheese is poured
50:28 Cheese is put away
Game 5 shook the heavens themselves!
Ty (thank you)
I loved this match up! This new kill-screen keeps everyone hyped!
This final did not disappoint! Alex dumping cheese on his head after the win was unexpected lol. Congrats to the both of them to making it this far!
I kinda fell out of the watching the Tetris world for awhile after the advent of rolling but I got this notification and decided to spend an hour watching. HOLY shit is all I can say, this is insane! I never thought I'd see a match like this and can't comprehend how these guys can process the board and react so quickly for so long, it's like magic to my old ass. I'm the same age Jonas would be and really wish he was here to see where the game has gone. Congrats to both of you guys and please spend the money wisely!
36:41 Tommy with the VITS at level 29 speed! unbelievable!
Level 39 killscreen single-handedly revived competitive tetris for me, thanks for everything ❤
He fkn deserve this. Honestly i wasn't his fan, i was always rooting for Dog. But what a heart he have, cold blooded. Much respect for both, amazing final.
Interesting. I remember starting to follow Tetris Monthly a few months after it started and at some point two players caught my eye. One had a funny dog avatar and another one some animated girl (is that Reimu?), but for some time there was always some slight mistake preventing them from finishing first. So I was very glad once one of them and then the other started to win, converting their potential into results. And later became the last 2 CTWC champs.
I had this same unrealized potential feeling once I first saw AlexT playing, but back then not yet winning. Such a creative play, a style not fully fitting the standard play strategies back then, ultra fast thinking and extremely risk-taking. For some time he struggled to adjust his playstyle not to be risky to the point of some silly topouts, but once he did, boy oh boy. And then it was only better and better, then a switch to rolling and a bit later here we are.
The age at which you start playing when your brain is still super malleable is so so important for Tetris. I am really interested how will it go when the current masters will be a few years older while a new generation of youngsters will appear on the scene and... will the few years of more experience and mind+muscle memory will be enough to offset the same few years of young age advantage? Hmm
49:24 Wow, that was f****ing incredible!
They weren’t lying
remember once there are some comments told how boring to watch rolling player slowly score by 1 or double lines to win over their opponent. Now these players prove them wrong. .... And this is the best match ever for real 👍
It's both true and the opposite. We could've still had a mostly (or at least partially) lining out competition if no line cap would be enforced. And people who are anti-linecap are still out there.
@@Peace_Guard In the competition, there are some limitations like play time and match schadule plan so imo it’s rational to use super kill screen. 😊👍
It’s because they added the line cap without the line cap it would still be boring tbh
@@frenchfries2424 exactly, super killscreen let the game more competitve. 😆
OH MY GOODNESS i literally screamed and kinda hyperventilated at those last two games AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
THAT WAS SO. UNBELIEVABLY. INTENSE.
Now THIS is how a final matchup should go down, GGs to both players!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Legend says that Tommy is still adjusting his sunglasses...
😂😂
Game 4... whaaaaaat! I must admit this level 39 killscreen does bring out some amazing post 29 aggressive tetrises.
Those 2 last games was the ultimate of ultimate finals matches! What a feat for humanity!
OMG! It's absolutely insane game. Worth the final. Guys are not a humans :) I give a standing ovation.
Special congrats to Alex T for winning but after those last two double 39 double rollovers I think congrats to Tommy too for the fight.
How the hell does Alex's brain work that fast?
Setting up all those center well Tetrises on kill screen. 😳
Instinct
Cause hes rolling
Alex just casually solving a 4x4 rubiks cube in his interview lol
didnt realize 4x4
I'm glad I watched this live. It's amazing to see the high scoring game play on the Level 29 Killscreen (2nd Transition).
The fact that Tommy set up for a double Tetris into 39, got it, and still didn't pull out the victory is mind blowing. What a game!
29:30 Tommy's middle well playing is brilliant!
What an epic match!
holy shit, what a match. absolutely genius from both players, ggs
I can't even be adequately impressed, crazy talent.
That was just INSANE!
Holy cow the last two games were BANANAS!
Never see this (huge prize) coming. Still remember good old days where the winner got absolutely nothing😂
Great match always
Great game. Wonderful game. Thank 2 players.
The Best tetris Game ever, beats the CTWC 2022 Finals
yup, this was insane. building for double tetrises going into the double kill-screen, and getting them! And still not winning!
CTWC 2022 finals was comparatively boring due to the line-out strategy.
best CTWC 2016= "boom tetris for jeff"
alright, youve got my attention
Wow two double 39’s in a row at the end, what a match
I hope they bring a level 39 cap to CTWC this year. The standard of play would be incredible
Gratulation both, amazing game ! Keep going! :)
both of them are amazing.
HOLLY F*CK... we're building super wells for super kill screen now?... WTF is happening?
I'm a HUGE AlexT fan; so happy he won! GG to TommyNTG too. HEELLL YEEEAAAHHH!
INSANE final matches oh my god
*Definitely crazy match!*
i love how he casually solves a 4x4 rubiks cube during his postgame winners interview that's incredible
lost the last game despite a tetris at the super killscreen. insane
Ggs so amazing!!
Вот это битва, как в старые времена.
That was intense 😮
Vandy: "that's a 1.7!!"
Alex: that's not a 1.7, watch THIS
2 player is so so good, that double Tetris of Tommy in Level 39 is so fucking creepy !!! GoodGame 2 player ^^!
Holy macaroly what a match!
very good final, the last match was a record of summed points with the new kill screen?
It was indeed the record
When I start at level 18, you can skip the first 6 lines or so before it gets interesting. With these guys, you can skip the first 220 lines or so in most cases before things start to get a little more fun. Just crazy!!!
Also at this rate, we can have professional Tetris players in the future.
More prize money, more sponsors, hopefully they will broadcast it on ESPN, etc.
Alex with crazy out of world dig bro
The last 2 games definitely made up for the first 3 games. GGs and congratulations AlexT 🎉
How soon until we see matches decided by who sets up for a last tetris on level 39 double kill screen speed
(Spoilers!)
How poetic is it that Alex wins CTM April 2024, a year after he won such a historic tournament?
Jfc Alex T is so fucking clutch.
Why now we have two speeds on the kill screen? Can anyone tell me why change the rules
Watch the finals of the last world championship to see the reason. Without the new super kill screen the game had stopped being Tetris and became Single/Double.
The super kill screen saved competitive tetris after the advent of rolling. It forces players to go for tetrises in 29+ speeds, since you cant be behind by several tetrises and win by lining out infinitely.
OMG What an ending!!!!
Game 3 better
Game 3 Tommy nearly had one of the dirtiest tetrises you'll see.
who needs NBA buzzer beaters?
when it comes to center well in killscreen, alexT is just better, and a little more risk
Yeah, I found that really interesting. Is it so that it's easier to move line pieces to the well, and easier to burn for safety?
Quaid was right all these years !!!
it's not center well is easier, it's just alexT thing, risk but burnable, incredible 5-tap to the left
Is it not easier to burn with center well? Certainly harder to build, right? I never said center well was easier, just that it would make burning and moving line pieces to the well easier. Is this wrong?
What are you saying by "risk but burnable"? That it's riskier overall but the compensation is in easier burning?
By "It's just an Alex T thing", you seem to be saying there's no net benefit to center well. Is this true?
Also, how does the "5-tap to the left" clause fit in? It seems like a nonsequitur, so I'm not sure what you're trying to say by it.
@@StrategicGamesEtc ok my response is quite off topic, i'm not sure center well is easier to burn, cause i use right well strat like other beginner, but to build center well stack that easy to burn and burnable without cover the well is harder
the 5-tap part is when i talk about alexT's weird piece placement, he often uses 5-tap piece like the Z, line to put on the left, it's different from his tapping day, but it makes burn a bit easier
Wow! Finals often disappoint as the best games are played in quarters or semis. Not the case here!!
I still can't comprehend this. A Tetris during the Super killscreen was not the clincher in this monolith of a battle.
GG!!
Best of best.. 👍
Alex is insane
Mega Masters > CTWC
I have nothing else to say
At this rate I'm thrilled to see post-super-killscreen tetrises during CTWC 2023
@@chupasaurus It was a great event with a worthy champion, but Mega Masters set an impossibly high bar
Quality wise I would take mega masters but as an overall event CTWC is better
Kind of upset neither of them thanked Vandy for everything he does but amazing nonetheless. Thank you vandy😊
Tommy 😘
Matches are getting to the point where we're going to need a horse racing commentator to commentate tetris because there's so many tetrises being scored post 29
Has a 39 line cap level 40 happened
It has not! That’s another historic milestone to look forward to
Will humanity transform into aliens?
What in the world did Alex throw on himself after he won?!?!
cheese
Parmesan flavor
Aight let’s get on the history books people. I was here! … guys?
It didn’t just make a mark for the history books, it shook the heavens themselves!
I hope he did buy a better camera. I swear, I thought dude was close to 30 😅
Woww
This is the end of progression. You can’t play a better Tetris.
And he did
The commentator is just talking about money in the whole interview :(
This time the good guy has won.
Both are the good guy.
