    Excellent content, the way you take the time to explain in the easiest of detail and include every facet of the drill is a credit to you. Most instructors touch on drills not going to your depth. It gives more confidence and less second guessing that your doing the drill correctly. Obviously in tune with what your viewers want and need.

    Eric, I saw your instructions about how to prevent slicing on another channel. Thank you soooooo much. I had the worst slice ever and after applying your technique of a stronger grip I'm now driving the ball straight 300-350 yards CONSISTENTLY!!! I've watched every you tube video under the sun about how to quit slicing the ball but nothing has ever worked until I came across one of your videos. I searched your name and found your channel here. Thank you!!! You're an awesome coach.👏👊👍

    Hei, this was so spot on for me!
    I'd like to add that I've also given myself back problems trying to get through the ball without that massive opening up.
    I hit twice as many balls today with no back problems.
    I kept topping until I fully committed to the lead foot, and timing is naturally a bit off, giving +-30m with a 7-iron. When timing is on, best shots ever.

I’ve watched this video and your other video on getting through the ball daily for the past two weeks, and applying it during my practice sessions. My consistency, ball striking, and distance have all improved dramatically. My head and body following the ball through impact and follow-through without rolling the wrists are just what I needed.Thank you again!

    Eric, It’s amazing how you pop up with a video sometimes that appears to apply directly to me. I’m 61 yes old and have played for 51 yrs. Most of that as a low single digit or plus handicap. With todays technology and reasonable good physical health I still hit nearly as far as ever. Had a five year stretch that I rarely played due to back issues. Maybe 3-4 times a year. 10 yrs ago I started back getting active in the game and at first hit the ball pretty well and played to a 2 handicap. Then out of nowhere I started hitting some hosel rockets and was getting very flippy with my hands. This has been going on now for 5-6 years and honestly nearing a point that I can live without it. Hitting the ball great off the tee only to shoot 80+ because I can’t hit a short iron square in the club face and miss greens. I had some surgery last year and tried to slowly come back and work on impact and while taking 3/4 swings at a slower speed I hit it great and played a few nine holes that I shot par it better. Then as I got healthier and swinging fuller the crap began again. I know I do keep my head down too long in the swing possibly to protect the old back and sometimes early extend to a point that flipping has to happen. The other miss is pulls and pull hooks.
    I really need to take these type drills serious slowly going through the process to make this more second nature to regain control of the club face. But as soon as I hit a few good ones I think I’m healed. I live in Jacksonville FL area and have had trouble finding a trusted advisor/pro to dedicate my time to for checkups. It’s either that or buy a boat!!

    Exactly what I needed!
    I am (well, was, at least... :D ) a single hcp player returning to golf after a "short" 20-ish years break, I found myself doing exactly the same inside-out swing with heavy rolling of my wrists - because that is how I was taught "back in the day" - causing thin hits, really bad attack angle and compression of the ball, resulting in the ball going way left.
    Will take this back to the range and hopefully straighten out those hooks/pulls! :)

  • @barrywild8353
    @barrywild8353 Před 2 lety +1

    This is so useful. I tend to roll the wrists which leads to hooks, thins and the occasional mis-hit going right; all caused by being stuck behind the ball. After trying this better release procedure, I'm hitting the ball so much better - further up the clubface, straighter and higher. Thank you very much - this has really addressed issues which affect my swing.

    Every golfer in the world, I dare say, has heard ... keep your head down, stay behind the ball, watch the club head hit the ball ... this is the first time I have ever heard to let your head follow the ball. And it makes perfect sense ... I have noticed in my own swing that I tend to stop rotating at impact and of course, the wrists must turn over... Back to the punch drill for me ... Head on the wall, follow the ball ... My new mantra! Once again, gotta luv Steve!

      @@CogornoGolf thank you again, sir! I wanted to be sure I was clear....I didn’t get much “feedback” from the (local) instructor that pointed out I was 9-10 under-plane. I was like, “yeah, I understand that. Two-way misses, and struggling to make contact is understandable now, but what do I do?” Thank you for reaching out to help me, man!!! I’ve struggled, and severely deteriorated for 15-20 years in golf, and the last time I played I tried to take the club back “hooded”, and it made a drastic difference! I felt my hips rip through impact a few times, and I’d convinced myself that just wasn’t possible anymore. I started hitting the ball much more solid, and picked up 15 yards with my irons immediately. I still struggled off the tee, though. My poor shot was basically a straight “pop-up”. I’m pretty sure I was getting quick, and steep. Your videos, and communication have encouraged me to keep searching though, and for that.....I thank you! If you were closer, I’d schedule a lesson tomorrow! Thank you very much!👍🏻👍🏻

    @jamiesloan7259 Před 2 lety +1

    I’m a low hc player, and this hit home for me. On bad days, I suffer from overdraws, and hooks. This is exactly why. Body stalls, which forces the face to roll over. On good days, I think down, under, and through. The down part keeps me from swinging too flat, and swinging the club out too much, through impact. The under part makes me keep my right side bend, and allows me to naturally keep the face square longer. And, the through part makes me rotate, and extend through the ball. These motions make me feel like I’m gonna slice it off the planet, but the ball flight ends up being a straight ball, or just a slight little baby fade. I think the 2 key moves for golf are side bend, and rotation. However, they MUST be done together. Side bend without rotation will have you hitting behind the ball, or hitting the ball too high. Rotation without right side bend will have your shoulders too level through impact, and pull hooking it off the planet(in my case anyways). Any thoughts? Correct me, if I’m wrong. I truly respect your knowledge.

    Hello Eric, I myself have been having trouble over turning the ball. I found out that in my setup my club face was a little shut. I checked my grip and found out my right hand was a little strong. After adjusting this and setting it more neutral with my thumb and pointer finger pinched together I noticed the club face set square but now I have to adjust to this. These drills you show look like something I should try but haven’t been able to get out to practice because of heat here in CA where I live.

    I love this for when the danger is all left of you on a shot. But when I do this the face is more lofted at impact and you lose a club or two distance so is this more suited to mid to short iron approaches? Would you do this for hybrid and woods? A driver like this would slice wouldn’t it ?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 3 lety

      Hey Tony!
      Great questions!
      Your questions are bases on the presumption that the face is more lofted....I did not find that to be true.
      If that is the case I would assume you are over doing it and or dont need more of this in the first place.
      Keep in mind I needed that because I was over doing some of the following through pieces....MANY MANY MANY golfers do not fit into that same category.
      I would need to see your swing to advise with more detail on what exactly you should/shouldnt do!

    i saw myself on video the other day, horror show re follow through, ie the high handicapper (i play off 18), butt end of club really close to chest, very narrow, bent arms etc. Loving this vlog as a great way to widen and straighten follow through. To keep it simple though, is it ok to end with straight arms? By that I mean without feeling like you still have to wrap club around shoulders Ben Hogan style. I can deal with looking crap, I want to max my swing first and foremost and not get too hunched up in follow through

    As I watch Eric's old swing (roll your wrist) and the swing Steve is teaching I wonder about the speed of the club face that seems to be lost by less wrist action (it looks like you are blocking the ball). Can you explain if (and how) Steve's approach is consistent with those instructors who teach lag or a whipping action of the club?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Walter!
      What we are taking out here is specifically excessive arm rotation.
      Lear arm supination, trail arm pronation.
      You need some of that (in fact a bunch) but you can OVERDO anything (which is my fault). Its a good fault...like too much money so you have a big tax bill.
      I do not see this effective lag nor whipping action either way. Separate deal.

      @@CogornoGolf so, i really like this. the part i have trouble with is the head thing. i know this will take a long time to engrain. i got out yesterday and did the ground drill b4 each swing but the real swing was different and produced a hand full of thin or bladed shots. as though i was standing up at impact. i have always been a right shoulder dominate back and through just to keep the strain off of my left shoulder (it needs replaced) but i can engaged the left more at slower swing speeds. overall, i struck the ball better (not farther, more control) and the misses led to some big numbers. but only 4 holes.
      i guess my ? is.....if my exit continues to be lower and more left, is moving the head up that critical? i think i should keep doing the ground drill b4 each shot and see how it all goes. your thoughts?

    Even though I am an Aussie, I feel that we had the same golf coach! 🤣. All your issues are what I have and I was taught them all as a youngster. My pop used to rave about Gary Player but I was all about Jack and Greg Norman. Somehow I think my Pop was on the right track. To swing upright with a rotating club face, and not a rotating body with square club face, is very difficult and you must have excellent hand eye coordination - something you lose as you get older. I am now on a mission to flatten my swing plane and ROTATE thru the ball! Thanks again Eric, these videos have been very insightful and very helpful. Cheers

    Looks very Stack 'n Tilt! I think the Stack 'n Tilt book says arms in 20 degrees at arm parallel on the backswing and the follow through and they don't roll the hands. It's also a Hardy one plane swing. Your old swing, the one with more roll is a one plane swing. Just thinking out loud.

      No it is just rotational. It is just about minimizing face rotation

    Hi great video. I'm a hook sufferer, especially with the driver. This seems to help but I do lose club head speed as I feel a bit like a cricketer doing a block shot. Definitely straighter though. How do you increase clubhead speed with this technique

    How to avoid pulling these smaller shots?
    Since there is no, or very little, transition I find it hard to get the club shallow enough without having a very shallow backswing.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 3 lety +1

      Definitely have to keep an eye on it to keep downswing shallow. Avoid opening torso TOO soon and make sure backswing neutral.

    Gonna try this drill today, but I'm worried that by drilling in purposely hitting the ground before hitting the ball I will be ingraining that into my course shots and will be bringing in a whole new issue in starting to hit balls FAT. I get what this is supposed to do but how do we not ingrain the FAT shot by doing this drill? Thanks, as always, Eric!

      @CogornoGolf  Před 3 lety

      Hey Kevin!
      Why would you purposely hit the ground before hitting the ball? Thats not what Steve is saying.
      He is just saying to hit the ground. Of course that it after the ball.

    Please give more details with left wrist and club face going to finish. Big frustration with this drill (swing left, stable release, baseball drill you name it) though, for who in self learning SnT, i.e: compared with how Mike Bennets hitting with long irons or the driver in slow motion, nothing similar with what you are describing. His club face points 45 degrees down from P7.5 and P8. Difference from drills to reality is killing me.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey! Would need to see more of your swing to say what YOU would need more of.
      Toe right on top of the heel would be good for little draws.
      My tendency is face too tilted down so for me I have to feel more of toe right of heel
      A golfer who has face too open will need to feel toe left of heel
      Toe right on top of heel is a good checkpoint for neutral flight

    Can this guy coach me? I’ve done this on a range, but not knowing what my goal was, just in randomly trying to hit solid shots. Usually, starting back to “I hit solid punch and pitch shots”, and I revert to getting that feeling.

      The touring pros are converting upwards of 85% of pitch shots and chip shots; that's 1 pitch and 1 putt vs 1 pitch and 2 putts. I was pumped today when I converted 64%. So I suggest you work on those 50 yards and shorter shots so you can 1 putt at a high conversion rate and your scores will improve.

    Gonna have to unlearn 50 years of “head down; shake hands on the follow-through” hand rotation. Has led to a lot of thins, pushes, and hooks. This does explain why I see a lot of tour players with their right arm across their chest and cupped left wrist at completion of their iron shots, though. If it wasn’t raining right now, why I’d…

    Good luck with this swing change. It may be easier to to switch from a righty to a lefty ,or vice/versa, than to get this move down unless your scratch. If you are scratch you probably are already successful with your swing and may need a tweak occasionally but not this drastic swing change. Of course I could be wrong....
