Installing a 40FT Shipping Container Shelter | Expanding The Workshop! | Part 2

- See how we install our 40ft shipping container shelter dome and cover without any instructions! The weather wasn’t the best for this installation but it needed to get done and we soon realised after unpacking the kit that there was NO instruction manual supplied. But we had already hired a 4WD trailer mounted boom lift for the day so decided to get it done anyway. This shelter dome is 40ft long x 40ft wide and 6 metres tall and will be installed between our two 40ft shipping containers. This is going to be a great upgrade for our outside welding & fabrication area!

It's nice to hear Karen doing the voice-over.
I would like to hear more voice-overs from you in the future. It adds a bit of family business feel to the video. Y'all make a great team. 👍
Thanks for the feedback!
100% agree, she's awesome! Also, I'm assuming she does the video editing. It's top notch!
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering I agree, that was a neat addition to the video
I agree, Karen has a great voice and this could also take some pressure of Kurtis at times
Same here
Can we give a hand to Mrs. Curtis for the awesome film, editing and voiceover work!! 👏👏👏 I would still watch the videos but I can definitely say they would be no where near as enjoyable without her touch! Thank you!
Thanks for the great comment, always glad to know the videos are enjoyed 😁
Now we know this is the future Kurt's helicopter hanger.
I totally agree. Karen’s filming, camera angles, lighting, editing, now-and-then talk over, and constant support to Curtis to explain, are all at the highest level. It often takes a second genius to explain/show/make plain the work of a genius. I think this is the pair we have with Curtis and Karen. Karen, thank you so much for bringing Curtis’ multi-dimensional expertise out to the world. It clearly is requiring your own tremendous multi-dimensional expertise.
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering Curtis ... many people over here in the good old UK follow and love what you do. Keep it up, because your quality of engineering is becoming a thing of the past 👍👍
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering Nice tent m8.
It was a pleasure hearing such a lovely voice describing the action in this video.
It's like watching a documentary when Karen does the voiceover. With the backgroud music makes it a relaxing video. Good job.🍻
Like the running commentary, goes well with what we see, making sense of it all. Thanks.
Watching you assemble the framework bracing in time lapse, I expected to hear David Attenborough narrating how the Australian Kurtis Spider weaves it web during the evening. Hoping to attract larger jobs to fill it's larder.
Greatly underrated comment 😂
I'll add my vote to the voice over. Absolutely fabulous.
You should sell the video to the suppliers as installation instructions.
Finishing up another job after dark. Kurtis must be of the motto “I’ll get enough sleep when I’m dead”. Always enjoy your vids. Appreciate you both taking the time to do them. Fan from Canada.
i still live by that motto, because it’s how i lived my life in the Army, and i’m so used to living on 4 to 6 hours of sleep each night
And I thought assembling this 4 person camping tent was tough.
You are the man Kurtis!!!!!
Job well done.
Well done Curtis. Haha dragging the cherrie picker through the mud with the hand break applied made me laugh. Liked the voice over :-) good team work :-)
As always, your skills and knowledge have made the job work in spite of the lack of instructions and the missing parts .
Well Done! I think Karen's skill with the camera and her narration are first rate.
Great job. Loved the initial brotherly ' rope throwing ' contest, looked like he won.😁
Im so amazed you did this alone... I would have needed a team leader, a safety person, 4 manual labor guys, 2 machine operatos and coctail waitress. I bet he hated leaving the job unfinished on the first day :D
Tchah! You are working on a low budget. Or they would have been a DJ, pole dancers, lap dancers, cage dancers and mud wrestling etc 😂
And a pastry chef
concrete. You get on a roll assembling something like this, get the method going, it's almost painful to stop.
You also need a two hour planning meeting before installation begins then a safety meeting when everybody shows up at the job site.
@@tiredoldmechanic1791 And the obligatory site induction, License submissions (White card, Working at heights, EWP, Forklift, Crane, Dogger, Rigger), SWMS and work permit signing party!
I love your can do spirit Kurtis. To put all that up, in less than 24 hours, without an instruction manual, is nothing short of amazing. Hats off to you my friend. 😳😁👍
Instructions are for sissies 😁
@@seannybdizzle yeah but every once in a while there’s a nugget of useful information, like maybe a specific on the end brackets that were reversed although that didn’t seem to stall progress more than a few expletives (I suspect).
Staffies are the best dogs.
I always watch the outtakes first then laugh when I see them in the "professional" video, I really appreciate how straight-talking true engineers are in AU, worked with a few in the UK and had some of the best banter and worst hangovers in my life, scratched my head for a while before I realised what "grab a couple of tins of frothy from the esky before we get back to yakka will ya blue" meant, no telling me twice now tho.
The 4 legged safety inspector was not happy about the situation, must have been something with the level on the lift not being on the spot 🤣
Awesome job in a short period of time, and great narating again by Karen.
loverly to hear Karen with the commentary , great outside space guy's well done :)
so Nice to Hear Mrs CCE doing Dialog , super nice voice
Ah, self tappers. The backbone of our bot in HS robotics. Good times.
G’day Kurtis and Karen. We are spoiled getting a mid week video. That installation was a lot of work wasn’t it. The finished product came out awesome. The igloo will make a welcomed addition. Cheers 🍻 Aaron
That's what I was thinking. I was confused at first and was checking the date, haha.
@@mrmysterious 👍
Had the beers out thinking it was Friday for a second!
Is it hail resistant?
@@Sean084 me too, but it was 6am in the morning and the wife was giving me the stink eye 😂
The boom lift, crain, brother , and common sense … great job! (Oeps sorry Karin, safety officer)
The yard crane reminds me of a dog. Great addition to the shop.
That ending was magical! Great camera work! 😮
Kurtis is a mechanist with 3D thinking capabilities. So I see no probs that he's get installed that thing without manual. Greeting from germany.
Die Videos haben für mich fast Suchtgefahr - Grüsse aus Basel
That's a great addition for you, congratulations on a job well done. I'll have to say it was exhausting watching Kurtis climbing up and down all day long and well into the night. And Karen's voice over was a perfect complement to the video giving a great explanation of what was happening. Cheers to both of you.
Karen, you make a nice narrator. Your voice is pleasant.
The most amazing thing about you is .. that you're always doing all this by yourself.
The man is skilled!
I've said it before but I'm constantly fascinated in how your mind works with mechanical issues and problem solving. Thinking to put tape on the joints where the tarp might rip was excellent but the fact that you took something like this and were able to assemble it with no instructions (not to mention extra/missing) parts is phenomenal. I know people that can't put 2 and 2 together with assistance.
It's 22! I even had my wife and dogs double check it for me, so there's no way I'm wrong.
OMG absolutely wonderful with your narration, Karen. Thank You. Hope to hear you more from now on. With the boy at times 2 speed. Made for an interesting video.
The footage of those two perfect rope throws was too good to be true
Thanks for posting the bloopers, I spent a few years building big party marquees that went up in a similar way and throwing the ropes rarely went well first time haha
Yay, a brand new double garage house
🎉🏡🏠🏡🎉🥳 🎈
Mate, I just freaked out. For a split second I thought it was Friday ... /o\
Other than that - I am glad that you are expanding, because that means business is at least going well enough. Good luck with the new ... space. 🤘
Wow! That's all I can say! It's a HUGE job for 3 people and he did it pretty much alone! As for the camera work, commentary and editing, it's perfect as usual! Thanks!
and the necessary lifting eqpt
@@araofmadisoncasey4247 You'll not do it right with twice the equipment and 12 helpers.
It iis very evident that Curtis is one hell of a worker and he has a 1st class mate.
Happy to see you working with your brother. It's a precious thing, family. Lost my brother to the COVID. Love them all you can while their here. Thanks for the video, quite the project for just two people.👍
I loved the stop-motion of the storm clouds scudding across. Thank you!
4:41- I love that she said “THEY went over to the other container…” I just love those invisible helpers Curtis was able to hire for this project. 😂
Needles to say it’s great to see how a fellow machinist figures out how to get the job done even when not enough parts are provided.
Safety chains, breakaway and a plug for the lights and brakes to haul the trailer... FANTASTIC! If you two ever visit the states, take notice of how many people think those are optional when towing.
Those rope throws were very Crocodile Dundee-esque 🤣
I am constantly amazed how much work you get done with just a two person and one canine safety officer team, Chapeau 👍
the dog does most of the work off camera
The more you install, the drier you will be! I have to say it's very strange to see you working with such "flimsy" metal, Kurtis. Normally it's like a $4,000 solid piece of induction heat-treated chrome bar stock, not tent poles. Good videos, keep it up mate!
And then give it a slight wiggle.. concluding: “that aint going nowhere”
Of course at one point or another you'd have to get the line borer mounted up there
And the entire thing chucked up in the lathe
That's a very nice extra work area. Loved the voice over from Karin
You'er a heck of a man Kurtis great job as always.
i have been watching your channel from nearly the begining i think
it s amazing how you have every equipment a grown men would want to play with :D
Nice vid as always , and nice to ear the wife doing background voice ;) keep up the good work
I have 6 of these at my place. On my second year with them. So far I have been happy.
Piece of advice: The brackets That attach to the containers need to be welded to the containers or at a minimum the Allen keys checked monthly. They do back out and slip off. Had 2 shelters fail on the same day where they slipped off the square tubing on the top of the container. Bent up the frame a bit and I had to remove all my junk to get them repaired.
Also everything underneath does still get wet in the rain because they are so tall with or without the wall up.
Good luck. Love my extra shade.
Yes, I think I would add the welds as the massive square footage of the canvas can create huge lifting forces on the frame, even with a moderate breeze- anybody with any sailing experience knows what I'm talking about.
J-B weld 🤷🏻♂️
That’s a big task mostly by yourself. Editing was great! “spider of death” and the rope throwing outtakes had me rolling. 😂
The entire time watching this video I kept thinking about those missing parts. If only Curtis knew where to find a machinist to fab up some extra parts on a weekend 😂. Excellent video as always.
When I get something without the manual, I can usually find one at the manufacturer’s web site. If this was a custom piece, a standard manual would give you some hints. As a skilled craftsman, your deductive logic and training served you well. Nice job.
He's done it before. But the instructions were at the top of the page when I Googled 40ft container arch shelter kit pdf
That closing sunset shot was beautiful.
You are a born craftsman! Your wife must be very proud of you! 👏👏👏👍👍👍💪💪💪
Greetings from Dresden! I wish you every success! 🇦🇺🇩🇪🍻😎
PS.: It is very good that your brother helped you! The clan must stick together! 💪💪💪💓😎
Out takes are some of my favorite parts of your videos!
You, the woman you are married too and the "little" brother are to be congratulated on an excellent job in such a short time. Quite impressive, thanks for the show!Enjoyed watching!
It's clear to see why you have been so successful with your business. You're a hard worker and when something needs to be done and done right, you don't make excuses and put it off. You roll up your sleeves and get after it. I have a lot of respect for you and you're work ethic. My hat is off to you sir. Great job and Karen, awesome job on the video and narration. But now I'm spoiled....I want 2 videos every week! Haha!!! All the best from Montana!
Similar sentiments from another viewer in Montana! Kurtis, you’re remarkably talented.
This is amazing,I just got my 40ft container from Wuwi Shipping Container very cheap and even paid it upon delivery. cant wait to start working.
Nice addition to the shop.
Sunset was epic!
Makes me wish I lived in Australia and had a bulldozer that had broken something watching these videos. Great work mate 👍🏻
Very cool! Im always shocked how small the world is. The scissorlift that you used at about 20 min is getting produced in my town here in northern Germany
🎼 It's a small world after all ...🎶
Oh look Martha, he is building a huge parashoot looking thing during a windstorm. This should be fun to watch this young man...succeed?
It's amazing the amount of work this man can do by himself.. Hats off to ya Curt. Great job on the voice-over Karen !
Was wondering if we'd see this. Special treat on a Monday. Cheers guys love watching you
Wow! That's an amazing job to do in 24 hours. I was wondering how you got it up. It's really tall. Thanks for another fun video! Have a great week.
I'm glad to see Murphy's Law isn't just an American curse. Despite the setbacks, you did a great job making it look easy (from the outtakes, I'm thinking Karen had a lot to do with that). Keep those videos coming.
Best giggler ever is also best editer and narrator ever too!
And this should NOT eclipse the unhuman hard work from Kurtis.
Thank you for blessing us with an extra video this week
"Blessing Us"? You need to get out more.
@@professor_thunder I'm outside watching CZcams right now🤣.
@@ultrafox2773 Awesome!
Everyone did a great job. Great editing with narration....and that sunset!
So the Master of Metal is now the King of Container builds. Impressive! 😉👍
Oh my God I thought I was the only one that built buildings by myself. I’m watching you do it all by yourself. Of course with your lovely lady. Yeah my wife would say “I’m watching to make sure your safe.” That always meant a lot to me. I didn’t want to pay some fella watch me and just hand me tools. Great job Kurtis. This makes for a great building!!! 👍👍
Excellent viewing your project looks amazing, very impressed with the end result.
Kurtis you are such a committed hard working man, my husband and I enjoy your commentary as well as your skills, thanks to the video recording lady behind the camera. Safety officer is a hoot. Plus all round.
Epic construction. Loved the fantastic red sky at the end!
I loved the bloopers at the end
I love the ending bloopers.
Excellant Kurtis, something of a puzzle with extra and missing parts. Good work camera wise and commentary Giggler. All held together and organised by Homey! Well done all and thank you for a mid weeks treat!
That looks brilliant. At least you don't have to worry about snow loads!
Kurtis and Karen, thank you for being who you are and sharing this with us. They two of you are so so good at what you do and we really appreciate everything that you put into your work and bringing us this kind of remarkable brain food and stimulating content. While it is a good laugh, the outakes show us the additional dedication and effort that you have and make for all of us. It's an absolute pleasure seeing Kurtis work and Karen bringing his work to CZcams and supporting him in all that he does. You, including the Safety Officer deserve all the success and great things in this world. Thank you so much.
i really appreciated the commentary
As they say: circus is a performance but it's also a building. This one is extraordinary because it's announced by Karen.
Seriously, Karen is a really good voice-actress.
By the way, it is usually very good to see a job well done. "Oddly satisfying", some would say, but I find it expectingly satisfying when it comes to CEE videos. 😎👍
Totally agree Trond Børge
Agreed and I blame the human factor where they include the personality flaws that most folks fear
I second this Great voice nice to hear her !!!!!! Mrs. Curtis for the awesome film, editing and voiceover work!!
Almost time for 12 month review on the structure!
Nice! Thank you for the extra video! How good to see you all again! 😀😁😁😊😊
Flere nordmenn som liker og se på kvaliteten han utfører👍
Absolutely outstanding voiceover work!❤️
Bonza job Karen and Kurtis 👍
excellent!! well planned installation .....Loved Karen doing the narration .... she has a great voice
I’ve built a few of these, and other “fabric” buildings. They are very nice structures, and should serve you well into the future. You are fortunate to have the various tools and machines, and even the large concrete slab to stage and assemble on. Great job!
How long will that tarp last?
What a joy it must be to have heavy equipment to do the labouring!
You Queenslanders are a very enterprising bunch.
Your dog is so cute it's obvious you give him alot of 💘
Kurtis really sets an example of always using the proper PPD.
This is such a fantastic addition to the operation! I cant wait to see what projects are tackled under it.
A surprise video to be sure but a welcome one. Container shelters are awesome for all kinds of work for all trades. We’ve used one in line with a smoko hut container and on those 40+ degree days a shaded work area is a god send and being so close to an air conditioned ice box was fantastic. I can attest to these kits not coming with instruction manuals but with a quick CZcams video they aren’t too bad to put up.
Kurtis, you need one of those wireless actuator for the sling to decouple it from the ground. Like the loggers use. Forget renting that little man lifter thing. You must’ve walked 110 miles and climbed 210 flights of stairs for this job! Lol ! EVERYTHING you do is top notch. You do things RIGHT… I respect that immensely.
Cheers!
Even with the outtakes, you made that look pretty easy.
Nicely executed assembly, especially without instructions! It's tough sitting here just watching, I'd love to help you out with it, but you're so hyper-efficient, I suspect I'd be as much use as an inflatable dartboard.
🤣🤣🤣
Been there done that, it was not fun in the Florida heat but I did it with 3 other guys. but you made it look very easy doing it single handed
It sure was great to hear your wife do the narration, love to see here more often. Thank you for sharing

Well done! Nothing stops you ! No instructions, we’ll figure it out as we go! It’s no surprise you two run a successful complex repair engineering business!
It’s amazing how Curtis does most of the work by himself,a really good video.
Don't be silly, there's a whole battalion of construction workers, engineers and ancient Egyptian slaves doing everything. They just get erased in post.
Kurtis, Rance here. That is a job well done! It really shows your skill in organization to make ready for the assembly, & thanks also to your brother. Karen it was a beautiful job with editing and voice over, your skills behind the camera make the presentation! Thanks.
