Hidden Woodsmen Haversack Gear: Best Handmade Bushcraft Gear!

  • *UPDATE* The material of the gear in this video IS water treated and fire retardant because it is Milspec material. Did not know at the time of the review** Preparedmind101 reviews what is some of the best USA handcrafted bushcraft gear out there from The Hidden Woodsmen. Everyone knows I'm a gearhead, and I haven't gotten a good new bag since the Rapdom T311. But tactical bags and backpacks are overkill sometimes for a quick trip in the woods. You need a good Haversack and associated bags and pouches. The Hidden Woodsmen has you covered! Made from 1000d/500d Cordura and milspec webbing and buckles, made one at a time by hand and built to last a lifetime...this stuff is great! And the BEST part is, it costs a lot less then you would expect. Reviewed are the Haversack, Fire Bag, Tinder Bag, Belt Pouch, Tool Pouch, and the Laplander folding saw sheath. Everything is made to order in your choice of colors and options.

Got one of these a few months ago, and some of his other small kit bags ... truly awesome quality at any price, and even more so for the price he charges! May be a little small for some people, but it's a haversack, not a rucksack ... learn to use it and you'll love it!
Also have to say, this guy's customer service and communication is top notch - he wants to deliver a quality product to you that is what you are wanting, not just get your money and send you something off his shelf. I've never recommended a seller on here before, but I have no issues recommending The Hidden Woodsmen )

Scotchgard would water proof it, and for just a couple of bucks. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. That tree sperm is cottonwood. Collect it and make a tinder bundle out of it! LOL This haversack looks perfect, and being hand made should be twice the price. I really like the smaller bags that go with it. One neat package. Thanks for showing it.

Well his prices frickin' skyrocketed in the last two years. This bag is going for $95 right now. You might as well get Vanquest or Maxpedition for the money. Even the small pouches are outrageous. I wish I had seen this in 2014 so I could have gotten a good price.

No seam binding? Cordura nylon frays eventually btw. Also, this stitching is early beginners level quality. Uniform stitching has alot to do with overall strength as equal pressure should be put on the whole seam. Lots of shaky stitching on all these products. I wouldn't be surprised if the tension is completely out of whack too. Hidden woodsmen, I would recommend a nice walking foot machine, and take the same amount of time and pride in your stitch as you do with your bag designs.

My wife had bought me a bag for my ipad and wallet from Fossil to get away from my butt bag i carried. Don't remember the price but it was more than $65.00. I saw how to wear haversack like a backpack but my straps are too short. That first Velcro slot on the front, would an I pad fit in there? Other pouches could be for wallet and glasses. Thanks for the video, the other bags look cool too. Did he have prices on his Facebook page or a list of the bags he makes?

After buying one of the early haversacks I have ended up buying one of almost everything Malcolm makes, in some cases like the fire and tinder bag I have 3 or 4. Malcolm is great to work with and will do some customizing to his base designs IE he added a D ring (so I can clip my bear spray outside the bag with a biner) and a webbing loop for my Wetterlings. Something not mentioned here is the HEAVY water repellant coating and fire retardant properties of some of his products.
