I bought it. It is what exactly it was hyped to be. A new current gen retro title of a classic series. Reasonable price. $6.99 not bad.
Let's admit it. Had this come out in the NES days. We'd all have saved birthday money/allowance, mowed God knows how many lawns, and pestered mom and dad to drive us to the store to buy this game.

Double Dragon 2 was my favorite game growing up, God knows how many hours I spent on that game! I'd come home from school and would immediately play it. It's still a bomb game to this day!

If this did have online multiplayer I would force you team up with me for a rad retro time.

How could you not know aboug the arcade version growing up? It was in just about every arcade for a while there. Thats like not having seen Street Fighter 2 in the arcade.
+ccmanize I didn't go to many arcades. The first arcade I went to was actually not an arcade but was at a swimming pool that had a Neo Geo machine and a SF2

Overall it feels rushed and unpolished. My biggest gripe is that there's zero consistency with the graphics and design, I'll be making a video about it

I'm an 80s child and a 90s teen and i loved double dragon ! Was the first fighting series I fell in love with and for 7 dollars which could buy me a slice of pizza and some fries.....i think it's worth it. If this game was like 20....no but for someone like me who misses this series yes!!!👍

It doesn't have Online Play, but it does have Share play, which is honestly a decent substitute especially with the game only being 7 bucks, just invite a friend from your list to play with you.
Great review, but no online co-op is kind of a deal breaker for me.

Great video. Just discovered this channel. I agree with you 99% but the inconstant graphics mixing 8-bit, 16-bit and some awful out of place gradient and vector graphics bothered me so much that I ultimately say it's not good. Luckily it's only $7 so, It's not as bad as it could have been. Other companies would have slapped a $20 price tag on it.
Looks like a bad ROM hack. Might as well just play part 2 again.

This game should be 4 player online multiplayer. No excuses! We need a really fun arcade retro beat em' up with online 4-6 person multiplayer. I remember having a blast in arcades with X-Men, TMNT and Simpsons.

Everyone, just calm down and go watch the River City Ransom Underground trailer and get pumped for the 27th.
Change playback speed to 1.25x for normal RGT85 voice.
The tearing is just a bad port problem for the PS4. PC version with forced V-Sync on has no tearing. Lets hope they fix that with an update for the PS4 version.
Just downloaded the game a couple of weeks ago. As someone who's played and owned some of the older original installments from the Nintendo era, I would say that the 4th installment is 'pretty good.' The slightly off controls are the only main issue that I have with the game as it's a little different from what I remember and takes some time getting used to. But all on all, it feels like a pretty faithful continuation of Double Dragon II - graphics style, music/sound FX, characters, and all. I'd rate this a 7.5 overall.
That screen tearing is brutal. I was wondering if something was wrong with my download. I really hope they get that fixed with a patch. Otherwise I agree with your review, decent game, but it could have been better.

Good review I love old school beat em up so I had to pick it up. It has it's problems here and there but it's fun. Of course IGN gave it a 3.5/10 so I had to check your review to get the real on it.

For less than $10 we really can't complain about things missing from the game but I wouldn't have mind them charging more for more game modes online multiplayer or even a graphics update in making it that you could jump between retro and a new graphics on the Fly kind of like when Halo get there remasters

The screen tearing is on purpose if you didnt know. lol they actually programmed it to emulate NES issues.

The game is great. Actually you can perform devastating combos with the new moves and by the way the matter with that sound and screen doesn't happen in pc mine goes really soft

I loved the game. I played through with my buddy this morning. It's everything I would want from a Double Dragon game.
U got bad taste obviously and u probably havent olayed any other DD games if u think this is good
Apparently from what I heard, the Steam version has no screen tearing, and the sound effects are just fine. Must be a bug or 2 they forgot to squash at the last minute for the PS4 version. Hopefully it gets patched, along with a few other bug fixes in the near future.
Double dragon was great. Does anyone even make games like this anymore? It would be badass if they made a modern beat em up game in 3D without any guns. You gotta kick ass through the game with your fists.
Can't watch all the video because I'm at work. It was a good game, but lacks polish. When I finished mission 12 I thought the game broke because it just went back to the title screen, I was thinking it was a bug and thought I was only half way or 3/4 into the game. Odd for it to end that way. Still, a good game.

nice review. In the story you said that Marion was kidnapped but it doesn't make sense since she was the final boss in Double Dragon 3. She was possessed by a evil spirit and died when you defeat the spirit. Is this Double Dragon that place before Double Dragon 3?
I just recently watched (and commented on) your best Wii hidden gems video and this vid made me decide to subscribe. I played DD IV just yesterday (got up to mission 7, will try again today) and I have to agree. The screen tearing is distracting and the audio was....meh. No where near as rad as what Double Dragon Neon did. I hope they go for another attempt , it felt largely...incomplete to me, somehow.

I gotta say Super Double Dragon was my favorite. That game was so fun, I would love it if someone got it on PS4 or even Steam, at worse case.

This is why I keep expectations low. It allows me the opportunity to enjoy games where I would not have with high expectations. I will probably enjoy this throw back that harkens back to a more simple time when only boys were accepted into boy scouts.

I am wondering why they went with the style of the NES games rather than that of the arcade series. Was Double Dragon played by more people on the NES? Not really criticizing just a bit puzzled.

Well damn, now that I've seen this review I want to get it. I have never played Double Dragon 3 on the NES (though I do check out the speedrun), just the first two from long ago.
I think much of the dislikes come from your complaint of not having online multiplayer.

So wasn't Sony having a go at Microsoft for including backwards compatibility, their words were who buys a current gen console to play old games, and yet they offer older PS2 games for sale on their PSN store and now a new release game in 8bit form, wow i guess it's ok for Sony as long as they're making money from it.

I don't understand people whining, complaining, and bitching for $7. yes it does have flaws, but it's still a Good Double Dragon game. nowadays people pay $60 for a game and are left disappointed. great game, nostalgic feeling, huge fan of beat em ups and hey $7 why not. If it were just a generic $7 beat em up I'd give it a pass, but since it's Double Dragon, I can't really do that. As I said in another comment, it's okay. It fits a $7 game, but not a new Double Dragon game. A new Final Fight game done right would be really awesome too. I agree! ^^

people bitched so much about that game, fuck, it's one of few new retro games from a big ass franchise. I mean people shat their pants when they knew shovelknight was fighting rash. Afterwards, people shat on shovelknight. I think we should all be happy 'cause like you said, 7 $. Also if it's a hit, they will make more new retro games.
I think Double Dragon 4 that Arc System Works should have used the Arcade machines graphics from double Dragon 1 & 2 not NES graphics don't get me wrong I like the game but I would have preferred the Arcade machines graphics
