- Here is a Dell Latitude with fan not spinning although the fan is in OK order. This has been my problem since a long time ago when a woman brought to my shop a huge XPS DELL laptop.
I thought it is a hardware problem but now, beside the hardware problem you also need to reset the BIOS to defaults in order for it to work properly !
Thank you alex. Its been 7 years. Your help is precious
I replaced by battery 2 days ago and got the blue error message saying my fan wasn’t responding. I did a deep dive into troubleshooting and came across this video. I tried it and it worked!!! So grateful for people like you.
This fixed my Dell Latitude E6530. After reloading Windows twice (for different reasons), then taking apart the laptop three times and nearly buying a new fan, resetting the BIOS was all I needed!
Man you are the number one!!
I was really gonna go outside to get my laptop fixed until I watched your vid. God bless you bro.. thank you.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I took out the fan on a Dell laptop to clean it and it didn't turn on after I connected it back up. I set defaults on BIOS and the fan worked but then I got the blue screen of death. DO NOT DO A SYSTEM RESTORE. That does not work or do anything. Just go to advanced options and boot in safe mode and then restart and everything should work just fine.
This is September 2023 and this is still the most helpful video on this problem. Thank you very much.
I received a quite dusty D830 to clean but even with a new fan it didn't spin. That trick worked like a charm. Thank you very much!
Worked like a charm! This is something that we can only learn through experience. Thanks for sharing!
Can confirm this worked on an old D400 laptop. Resetting the BIOS did the trick. Hit ALT+F when in BIOS to reset it.
Thank you kind stranger
Working on fan issues for so long now... and this instantly fixed it... I guess you are right... you are the best.
You are in fact the best. I took out the cmos battery and I felt in this problem. you saved me with your information!
Oh wow, you're right. I simply clicked "Load Defaults" in BIOS and it worked again. Thank God and thank you.
can you lead me there step by step?
Saint Upid pressing F2 on my dell laptop went to the bios. Then pressing F9 was the key to reset the bios. Save and exit.
Ecclesiastes_07 does it reset anything on your computer or like memory or factory reset?
i already replaced the cpu fan and still not working until i came here and watched the video and immediately try your solution.. thanks a lot! now its working! cpu replacement cost me 7USD
Thanks a million for this wonderful information you shared. i have been racking my head to see how i can be able to get an Hp 655 that a client brought to my tech shop to get fixed. i tried resetting the bios and it worked like charm.
Thanks!!!
Thank you, I didn't know about this feature. The fan was not spinning from the board which was strange as it was not that blocked.
MANY THANKS !! I could not believe the solution was so simple !! I though the fan was faulty, or it was not being supplied with the right voltage etc etc. A HUGE THANKS :)))
Thank you for the video, still works in 2024. I really appreciate it.
Quick question… please if you can tell me that would be great. How did you reset the bio with the fan not running. I’m worried that if I turned the computer on and attempt to reset the CPU overheat and the computer shut down!
Please, any kind of suggestion is going to help.
May Allah (S.W.T.) guide you and bestow upon you His Blessings; Ameen.
@@NazmusLabs which laptop model are you using? And i'm a little confused by your question
@@SH31KH4M3D the same model used in this video. The CPU overheats and shuts the computer down after about a minute. The video says you have to wait five minutes for the fan to spin. But how can I wait for the fan to spend the computer shut down to protect itself after a minute or so?
@@NazmusLabs you seem to be having a different issue brother, take it to a professional
@@SH31KH4M3D no you don’t understand. It is the same issue. Someone else fixed it Alhamdulillah. A laptop CPU will shut itself down if the fan doesn’t spin. do you understand that? When the fan doesn’t spin the CPU gets hot and to protect itself, the computer shuts down after a minute. Did you never experience this? Did your computer keep running without the fan and the CPU doesn’t shut itself down even after getting extremely hot?
I dropped my laptop, on top of breaking the stereo plug off in the jack, then fan would not run. I took it apart a couple of times and looked at everything closely trying to find a problem, but nothing. I was getting ready to hardwire the fan and just let it run constantly, but then I found this and out of desperation, did a reset. Now, fan is running fine again! Good job indeed sir, and thank you!
I can't thank you enough for this. It saved my Dell Latitude e5500. Merci mon ami.
MY DUDE. U saved me about 3 hours of work disassembling and figuring out whats up with my dell. straight up beasst. refurbishing job sometimes u need the tricks of the trade aye
I love you, you just saved my laptop and my channel. Thanks
Thanks. I don't know yet if I'll need to to do this, havent' got the new fan yet, but boy are you a life-saver if I had that problem. I'm running at 195 and there is nothing or almost nothing coming out of the vent. Been like this for months. :-) Didn't realize I had such a problem because except fot the sound shieking sometimes, it works fine, and even the sound works with USB spearkers.
Change the fan if you hear noise from it ... other then the breeze:))
@@AlexandruDanIon No noise, no breeze either!!!
Thank you buddy! I replaced my old fan and was still getting no love but your insight solved it!
3:19 that laugh 😂
Sounded like window error code lmao
One more here to give u credits for your help and to say that it's not as simple as it sounds. I had to repair an old latitude e6500 and after reading your tip, i notified that even if BIOS resets to default through its menu, the next step must be to shutdown the laptop (i personally shutdown any desktop-laptop for a minimum of 1min if i am to start it again).
I had about half an hour over that laptop, testing some scenarios, since after reading your solution, i immediately assumed that either a power option or disabling one or several devices, would cause the fan to stop spinning.
I was for that half hour, in and out of bios (had the hdd off) disabling devices each time and changing and performing diagnostics after each exit, to see when the fan would not start again permanently. Sadly....?!.... the fan would always spin after a point in diagnostics, so i decided to attach the hdd drive again and see how it would behave in OS through a little stress, and monitoring with HWinfo.... it would still start, but at least i got a clue or two from this... first, that in DELL they want to burn CPUs since the temp where the fan would start, was over 80 degrees in Celsius and it would stop about 65-70 (assuming the readings were correct, althout i doubt a bit since it would jump from 45 to 60 immediately after stress start)...and second, that i must never trust this company for real after this (not that i ever did)!!
I think I'm NOT smart, I've had this problem for YEARS, I've done soo much things to fix overheat; I removed the dust, I installed software to force fan, I buy cooling pad... still not perfect, but then I saw your video and VIOLA it fixed after all this years! thanks!
Well it did take me a wile too... i also did go the hard way like you did, then one day i decided to think differently and then Voila .... sometimes we are blinded by the obvious problem ,we do not bother to investigate deeper :) luckly i had a moment of clear vision :)) glad i helped :)
Thank you so much!
I couldn't understand what was going on since I only disconnected 3 pieces during a cleanup, no way I could have forgotten something...
So I thought I had screwed up the fan somehow, until I saw your video.
I have same problem. After default bios it work.. thank you very much..
U are great..
It worked man..You just saved me from spending money.. thanks a lot
Goddammit i was so woried
Works on latitude 5320
Works after 8 years of upload thanks dude
Hey I forgot to thanks you because the laptop worked and my mom is already using it.
Yup, I was searching for some ideas on a E7440 fan not spinning and I found this. Well done. Subbed and liked. Cheers, M
Seriously thanks alot it worked! Once i got into my bios my cpu fan started working again.
Yes, It does works on my Dell latitude e6410 laptop,
Thanks
man you the best, awesome stuf, no more overheating for me
Alexandru, you are a star. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this info! You just saved my life, man. :-)
Is there another solution to reset the bios because it wont work in my dell how u said 😑😑
I'm using an optiplex to make a gaming pc and the pc fan wouldn't spin unless I manually spun it then it would catch up. But it would never spin on startup. I ended up cleaning a huge blockage and trying your method it just saved my build! I guess that's a built in failsafe so a fan doesn't wear out its bearings if blocked.
Boa sorte !
Thank you For this hope it works...i did not try this yet! here is in English for English only speakers ::
For those with Dell BIOS that do not have the Load Defaults option, the way to fix this is by rewriting the BIOS. I did this on a Dell D620, and it worked. The program warns you that it is the same BIOS, but you can continue recording and it will work. Good luck !
@@AlexandruDanIon Thanks !
This is legit for sure! After a quick maintenance my latitude e7440 did the same thing. The fan was not working at all, and I couldn't find any reason. I thought maybe the fan cable is broken or something similar. Luckily I found this video, tried loading defaults in BIOS (just don't forget to set sata/boot settings again) and it works!! THX!!
Hi, I bought another laptop like this one but upgraded. I tried what you did and the fan started to work. I don't have a hdd on it but I'm going to try and if it works I will let you know. I appreciate the help you have showered us with you sweet human.
Alright my good sir. It seems it's working I installed another 4gb memory that my mother's laptop had and here I'm hoping it keeps working to gift it to my mom for Christmas.
Just in case I'm still in the bios and the fan does not turn on unless it hits 75 C. Right now is at 55 C because the bios stopped testing everything. The thing is the fan is only turning on when it hits that 75 C. Do I go safe and buy an external fan?. I've seen cheap ones on Amazon because the external cheap one can help keep it cooler while the cpu fan starts running again.
Thank you very much my guy! A big life saver you are much love💪🏾
bless your soul, resetting the bios really worked. Thank you! :)
Thank you! From South Africa
Thanks mate literally I was gonna get repaired outside you just save my day
Lovely video. very educative i must confess. Keep up the good work. Thank You
Thank you it worked, I even ordered a new fan before I saw this 👍
Had similar issues with Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming Laptop, worked like a charm resetting bios. I think a recent new bios update knocked out the 2 fans.
How did you reset the bios, I have the same problem
Such a simple and effective solution😭❤️
Thanks a lot, it worked for me with a BIOS reset.
you save me from buying new fan... lol... thank you brother...
How do I test the fan without the altimeter? I thought you said test the wires with any AA battery which means I need to split the connectors?
Thanks a lot man you saved me a lot of time. it worked with asus g550jk.
Dude thank you!!!! This worked for my G7 (after updating bios cuz of known overheating issues)
Glad to have helped :)
So, I have an inspiron 14 5000 and the right vent fires, the left one doesn' t... does it still work?
Hi, I have a Inspiron 1791 and it sounds as if it's grinding against something. I've looked into it and even asked at Dell support but sadly they couldn't help. My warrantee said it expired a few years ago even tho this model just got released in December. My pc doesn't even recognise the model (Inspiron 1791). It's showing up as some server, I don't know how this is possible, plz help. (Btw the grinding starts of one loud noise then turns off and on every half second). Plz help as quick as possible bc I can't turn it on without it making that noise. My model of laptop is pretty unknown and unpopular so u don't find much about it even on the Dell website
One reason it did not spin and no blockage in the fan is it did not reach the programmed temperature to spin. I have scenario but no blockage and and supplied voltages are good. Spinning the laptop's fan can cause your battery to drain more quickly that's why they are only programmed to spin when it reached the programmed temperature. It spin when it reach 55 to 60degC. The laptop is DELL 7404.
Ooh, now my dell is making all the right noises again.
Since the youtube-algorithm is pretty confusing and I don't wanna mes up my "videos I like" list, which only contains music, I'll leave you a happy comment kind sir
Thanks alot bro you just save my laptop and my money....
It worked! Thanks man! You are a lifesaver!!!
Your video was very helpful, thanks, looking forward for more interesting stuff from you, peace
thank you bro Ochin Spasibo!!!!
Thank You Soooooooooo Much! This video saved so much of my time and money. Thanks! :)
Thanks a lot! Your video solved my laptop problem!
Thank you sir... This worked wonders
I did load defaults and pressed escape it started my windows and nothing happened it didn't wait for 4-5 minutes and it didn't work please help?
Thank for the info sir, it helps me a lot, sir may i ask?. mine was like that but i can't Go to the bios because it has a password. how can i reset the bios?
Well you have to open the laptop take the "clock" like battery out, short the 2 connections on the motherboard of the laptop. Power the laptop with the short on for 5sec then pot the battery back on the motherboard. Password should be canceled. You can also look online for model of laptop/ default bios password...just maybe you'll get lucky and not have to open it...hope that helps :)
Worked well for me. Thanks man.
Hello!!! Thank you very much. It realy worked on my sony vaio.
thank you for the tip. It’s great to see a lot of people saying it works. But my issue is this: it may take a few minutes to reset the bios. If the fan is not running, the the CPU is going to overheat and shut itself down…
what do I do? Thank you so much for your help.
May Allah (S.W.T.) guide you and bestow upon you His Blessings; Ameen.
In Dell laptop
Spinning is stop when pc start window
What is solution
Finally. Fantastic video. Thank you!
Glad i could help :)
yeah it works . thank you
Lifesaver!
You are a life saver!
Thank you so much it worked with me on dell e6420
After resetting BIOS, when the CPU fan failure screen pops up, do I just continue to windows? Thanks
Now my laptop turns on says there a problem and restarts and says there's a problem then restarts. My laptop is even more screwed up now after the bios reset
That can happen if you A have a disk CD or usb in B you did not setup first boot device the hdd or ssd it has windows on.... A BIOS RESET is harmless 100% of the time !!!
wow! this worked for me... thank you so much..
glad it worked out for you!
Ive done that and retested my fan through a battery and it works. Back on the motherboard after bios reset, it still doesnt supply energy to the fan. It only sends power when it turns off just for a while... pls help
100% working thanks Thumbs Up !! :)
I tried this and i even downgrade my bios...i m using dell vostro 3558...and still my problem is not solved...now i am using hwinfo s/w to kick-start fan...not sure if that's safe but i got no choice...please reply to this comment...Thank You!
I'm trying to get the fan on my D830 to work again. I increased the RAM, and after putting it back together, the fan won't spin. It is not clogged either. Resetting BIOS to defaults isn't working. Is there any kind of reset procedure that can be done to the motherboard itself?
Edit: I think the problem was my expresscard device failed and was overheating quite badly, and since it is next to the fan, it must have caused the circuitry to malfunction, but removing it solved my problem.
Thanks. I’ll look into this. Alienware m17x here. Similar issue
my brother i have problem with my laptop dell latitude e5540 fan malfanction and but laptop new please help me
how can i reset de bios?? my new fan just sppin when i turno off the laptop
i have a dell latitude e5430
I appreciate ur work
how does this video have so many dislikes?? you saved me money thanks bro
Thnx a lot man, new subscriber👍👍👍
However if Dell lat3500 choose to reset
FACTORY DEFAULTS within F2 bios
NOT the BIOS defaults.
I have the same problem on a Dell Inspiron 17 3721. After fan change it doesnt work. It works with 3rd party programm Speedfan though. Cooling was set to passive i change it to active it i still have no spin from Bios. Now i ll try to reset the bios to see what will haooen. Last hope is a Bios update from A005 to A006. There is also the latest Bios version A16 but i m sceptical on doing this big update.
Yap agree, do the less risky parts first and let the A16 for a last resort ...let me know if it works out for you! Regards
Bro I have an update when I first time did this it worked but when I booted second time it showed the same error that it was not working
might be the bios battery is flat so it'll save when on AC or battery power but not on EPROM bios, try changing that small watch like battery and let us know. Hope this helps
@@AlexandruDanIon I have to do it in bios or by opening the laptop
Because I don't know what do u mean by "small watch like battery"
Aryan Yadav you have to open up laptop from the bottom. Battery looks like the size of a small silver coin. Do a CZcams search for cmos battery and you will see and understand. When the cmos battery dies then all setting are lost when no more power to laptop. This is how a desktop computer that disconnected from power source still has correct time and date after a year of storage, but will not keep time properly once the battery dies.
Thanks problem solved 😊
MSI Apache GE62 i7 4720HQ (2.60 GHz) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 2GB - Water Damage
cleaned the board and it came back but there is one chip that is burned. Probably the thermal/fan controller as the fans will not turn on. Everything else works fine it just won't stay on due to heat.what should be my next step
Thanks brother 😍 it's working..

Do you know how to reset the bios on a dell inspiron 5490
Please google it, I have no idea but usually it's the same path...secret key at boot/advanced/security/reset to factory i'd say if it's rather new but google it please😁
God bless you.... seems it worked... atlst i hear some fan speed like sound... with ear close to fan.... Thanks a lot for sharing such un-thinkable possibility!!
what about the dell g7 my fan keeps on grinding on something i need help pls
If the computer works then you need to change the fan. Noises from a fan means it's out of balance and not spinning at the supposed speed thus not cooling... if laptop does not work then try to reset bios
