    I agree that laptop deserved a little more investigation time spent on it, but that's how it goes: we have good days and bad days at work.
    This channel has actually gave me great confidence to fix 3 old laptops already. One VAIO with a shorted USB (which I found using the multimeter and then realized the chip was burned when I got my microscope over it), another one Acer with a bad capacitor and one HP with a shorted internal battery (yeah, the battery itself was shorted). This is a great channel with amazing content. Thanks!

      Just use it on diode mode (beep mode). It can detect shorts between positive and negative rails (that shouldn't happen).

    The key word here is PWM - pulse width modulation. The fan has 5v on the red (+) all the time, but the frequency applied to the fourth pin controls its speed. If this is stuck low, the fan won't spin. If you disconnect it, it will always run at full speed.

    • @user-kr8tp3ko8z
      @user-kr8tp3ko8z Před 2 lety +1

      Your are right it's a simple pwd controlled DC motor with a driver and the feedback is a diode for the temperature, so pwm signal is generated from the superIO from what I understand, don't know how it failed, maybe they didnt calculated properly the supplied current?

    Even when you do doggy work you can allways do it better, for example cut the wires a bit further away from the connector, that way no plastic would be melted, the connector would be still removable for various reasons in the future and it would be easier to solder the wires. However i envy you of your computer knowledge Sorin! Continue with the good work, i have seen almost all your videos and like allways can't wait for your next ones honestly. Thank you.

    In case you miss the description: "After i stopped the recording, the laptop was still shutting down randomly. 3 hours later a found actually the SIO chip is faulty, that's why the fan was not working also"; In any case i liked the alternative solution for the fan.

    • @robertvogel4056
      @robertvogel4056 Před 2 lety +3

      This is not the case, even if the SIO is faulty it will not cause the laptop to shut off, what would cause it to shut off is the EC which is programmed to protect your laptop if overheated or one of the fans stop working.
      The fix is simple, link cpu side pwn signal to gpu side on the board, would be a cheap fix and would work well in most cases and the EC will not trigger a shutdown as it will see that the pwn signal is ok and the fan is spinning.

    Hello Sorin. I see you keep stripping the wires of their insulation with your teeth. This is a bad example. I have also done this several times in the past, resulting in bad incisors and a visit to the dentist that costs a lot of money. Strip the insulation off the wires with a wire stripper or sharp knife, but keep your teeth healthy and avoid this operation, tempting as it may be. A golden advice is worth money. GRTS Andy

    there's plus, minus, one is TACH signal from the fan back (mostly yellow) for the rpm and one is a PWM signal from the board to control the fan speed.
    99% of all fans in desktops or laptops and even in servers work this way. The first thing i'd have done is looking into the BIOS and check for the fan control. Then checking the operating system. Sometimes there are Fan-Tools, that take over control completely... and cause these problems. Not measuring and not looking into the BIOS was really dodgy...

    Hi Sorin, I have a toshiba satellite L845 laptop with amd apu A6 4400m cpu which heats up to 98 - 100 degrees in just about 5 minutes of turning it on, then it turns off, I already changed thermal paste, the cooler fan spins well, I see it in good heatsink Status, will the motherboard have any electronic problems? Maybe some smd thermal sensor? I hope you can guide me on what to check, I already have the schematic of the motherboard but I don't know where to check it, thanks!

      place a thin 0.5mm copper plate (amazon) between the cpu die and cooler with thermal paste on both sides, had this exact issue with a different laptop and temps went to 40's in idle from 70's.

      Hi,@@fliporflop7119 thanks for response, I had already tried this method with the copper plates attached, I bought them on Aliexpress, I had no success, the amd A6 apu cpu reaches 100 degrees in a few minutes and the laptop turns off without me being able to resolve that failure

      @@adrianmedina7065 maybe the copper heatsink is punctured and the small amount of gas that should be result of the liquid inside the copper is not completing the full cycle of moving the heat as is was designed to. Most gaming laptops have heatsinks with a little liquid inside, when heat is applied from the cpu die, that turns into gas and helps dissipate heat faster, if the heatsink is compromised, you can experience the issue you are describing.
