- Thanks for watching my channel. I started my gardening channel based on my collection figs, at one point I had over 350 varieties in Seattle. Now I've expanded my channel to Bonsais and Kois as well.
In this video, I do some spring work on my Japanese Arakawa Rough Bark Maples. Defoliation can help light penetrate the inner leaves, ramify the tree as well as create smaller leaves.

My two maple varieties are just now leaving out! I'm in Seattle, surprised to see so much growth.
If they root, they root. If they don't, I don't feel like a murderer. Mine is doing pretty good in Florida in dappled shade under huge live oak trees.

Yes however for this year, the tree will rest. I do have a video planned for it to show what happens when you cut off a branch or pinch.

Can you just trunk chop even if there is no lower branch ? Was thinking of doing that in December where there is minimal sap flow and of course seal it with cut putty
