- The engine block cracked in the barn find 1967 Chevy C10 stepside! It happened while I was out of town. Let's get the truck in the garage, pull the straight six engine out & look at the crack. We also need to decide what new engine we're going to install in the truck. Should we get another straight six or a v8 engine?
See the new engine go in the truck!

UPDATE!!! A swap meet engine ended up going in this Chevy C10. Here's the videos czcams.com/play/PL6hZXCJfWqs6Mx_A8X9w8c3o-qrcdZWwt.html
That truck would make a kick ass sleeper with a built 327 and a 4 on the floor
Agreed. I'm saving the 4 on the floor for the '56 Chevy.
OMGoodness‼️ You almost lost me to "Cute Kittens and Puppies" videos.
You know he got soooo angry off camera and stared at that motor in silence
I am gald your back with a new video..too bad it's cracked..I would just put 250 ci 6 back in..save the 350 or 396 for the 56 chevy..goodluck
I can't argue with your thinking.
292 big six or 283 sounds good.
We'll see what happens.
It’s pronounced lass oh. Keep grinding!! 👍🏼
Got it!
good 4 another 50 thou
It does run
@@freemansgarage i have a 327 in mine out of 68 impala, short box fleet side same window
How about one of those Blue Flame straight 8’s?!
I like the way you think.
@@freemansgarage I appreciate you great content as well as your patriotism. May the Lord bless and guide you always!
Same engine hoist
That's cool.
Hey Freeman, I bought a 283 with a similar crack in the block and my dad and I welded the crack . It was only in the water jacket. It seeps a little but its not bad. That was in my 56 chevy and that was in 1978 when I rebuilt the motor in auto shop class in high school in north Texas. Like the vidio. John
Thanks for telling me that. I might actually try that with this block. If I do it will be a video on the channel for sure.
Watching from New Zealand. Go for a 283 mate. I will watch you an do the same thing. Don't over power the truck. With a 350. ....283 be a sweet motor
I might be able to snag a 283 actually. We’ll see. Thanks for the suggestion.
283,headers,vortex heads,roller lifters,cam,air gap intake
That's a great sounding recipe right there. I like it.
@@freemansgarage it’s on my bucket list🤓
get a same year donor block and build it, it will still be numbers matching if the block was cast for same years. check your cast and cross reference to see how many cast there was
Good call.
Add two more cylinders. It will pay off in the long run.
Nothing wrong with adding more cylinders.
A 350 is always cheaper to build than anything else out there. I was able to pick up a LT1 with all accessories for 300 bucks. Yes I was lucky. BTW my dad bought a brand new 67 3/4 ton and I love what you are doing.
Oh and his truck was the same color too.
350 might be what we do here. You're right they are cheaper to build. That's really neat your dad bought one new & a 3/4 ton. Did he buy the truck for a specific purpose or did he just want to drive a pickup truck?
Dark aqua poly I think it is.
I hate to see an inline 6 broken like that. I'd try to keep it an inline 6.
I’m going to try.
Gut wrenching moments, edge of your seat action. Great stuff
I'm putting it all out there.
Um..... I would say the block split because a guy only put water in the cooling system and it froze. I have fixed a cracked block like that before. Well not fixed it but stopped it leaking using a product called Iron Tight.
Thanks for mentioning that. I might try it.
Should Put A 283 Or A 327,Maybe Another 250!!!
Good choices. I think it's going to be whatever I can find.
@@freemansgarage Ok!!!
I like to see a 292 in the old girl just for all the torque.👍👍👍
We could pull down the barn this truck came out of.
I just keep everything as virginal as possible today's gas prices I would just go back to the 6 cly
Agreed. There’s been an ongoing series of videos swapping another 6 in the truck. I posted the newest video this morning. Here’s all the videos in one playlist in case you haven’t seen them yet czcams.com/play/PL6hZXCJfWqs6Mx_A8X9w8c3o-qrcdZWwt.html. Thanks for watching.
I’ve had that happen before. Pulling the dipstick and oh boy….I’ll tell you, That’s the milkshake that doesn’t bring the boys to the yard. Find a cheap 350 from all those people dropping LS motors into everything. Shame the freeze plugs didn’t pop out like they’re supposed to.
That's funny. A 350 would make this a completely different truck. I've got a couple good 350s 1500 miles away back home in ND. Can't get those out until the snow is gone. The Texas engine hunt begins.
Freeze plugs are not freeze plugs. It’s a common misconception and a myth. It is true they can blow out. But it will not save the block during a freeze. The plug holes are casting holes during the manufacturing process.
Yep less power take it easy
I agree
A 5.3 LS would be real reliable and they are cheap in the junkyard now. I would also hook it up to the original 3spd, that would be cool.
That would be cool.
The Canadian delegation requests that the Rambler be worked on first.
I rebuilt the dual action fuel pump & the video will be out soon. Probably this week. There might be a 61-63 American with air conditioning joining the fleet. Working out the logistics. Stay tuned for that.
I’d vote for a 396. Great motors and not as common.
Good vote.
LS SWAP!!!!!
Anything's possible
I would just slap in another 250 and call it a day -- Mostly because you already have most everything you're going to need. Particularly if you're on a budget. But also because you'll find that anything more powerful is going to overpower that light duty 'Peanut' three speed transmission you have in there.
Call me old fashioned, but I'm all about keeping the worms in the can and leaving it unopened.
You're right. We probably will break that transmission if we get a little too rowdy.
2 fiddy
Noted
283
A 283 would be awesome.
Other than that, how was your trip up north?
It was great. Thanks for asking.
V8 350
That's very possibly the route we're going.
Dont shoot me for this but you could put a ford 300 in it
(The big six)
I could but I might ruffle a few too many feathers.
I fully agree on the old 300! Love that motor.
Yes we all would have to shoot you , very bad idea
@@melissadunagan6596 DONT SHOOT I was just aggravating Freeman for the fun of it
If I put a Ford in a Chevy, worlds will collide.
V8
427 truck engine
That would be nice. Very nice.

Why not get your wife out there and teach her a thing or two. Us small guys need help!
Single father here. The kid is starting to spend more & more time in the garage. That's my helper.
@@freemansgarage That's great. Teaching the next generation.
Idk how about really making the purists mad,put a rambler engine into your old truck
I might take some real heat for that one!
@@freemansgarage lol,I personally think it would be great fun, more than likely be more dependable
It would be fun. Those Rambler/Nash powerplants are pretty good.
@@freemansgarage grandfather had one that went 300k,and started every day didn't matter what temperature-20to100 degrees and every winter he had to jump start some of the neighbors new cars, 😂
