  • Ann has had several requests to demonstrate a HAND BUILT version of some of her wheel projects. Well, here you go. It just shows you dont need an expensive wheel or a degree in pottery to build something cool! Try it out!

    Answers to questions we get all the time:

    Ann uses Standard English Porcelain no. 365 unless specified otherwise in the video

These workshops are very detailed (typically 1.5 - 2 hours in length) where Ann provides step by step instruction and are designed to help potters take their work to new levels of craftsmanship and artistry. vimeo.com/showcase/6725318

    @Paintspotsandpaper. That's a pastry mat. Check in kitchen stores. 😊

      Thanks Nicki. You are right about that, although you dont have to go to any fancy stores to get one. Your local grocery store might have one hanging up in the gadget section. Look for the plastic mat not the silicone one. Thanks so much for watching the video. I appreciate you. Ann

      Hi Anne. thanks so much for watching. I use Standard brand English Porcelain #365. A bit expensive but makes a great canvas to paint on which is my favorite way to decorate.

    Hi, could you tell me where I can get the mat with the markings on that you roll your clay on? Thankyou so much for sharing, take care xx

    • @JohnLowes
      @JohnLowes Před 20 dny

      It’s a Wilton pastry mat, I found mine at a Hobby Lobby, but most any store that has a wide selection of kitchen equipment should have one.

      @@JohnLowes Thankyou so much, does the clay stick to it at all or do you use baking powder on it first?❤

    • @annruel1982
      @annruel1982 Před 18 dny

      @@Paintspotsandpaper If the clay is fresh but not too "slaked down or wet and sticky "then you should be fine with it not sticking. if the clay is too sticky, you should probably not be using it yet for your hand building project. Let it dry out a little then give it a go. Actually that is probably a good test for whether or not your clay is ready for using.....whether or not it sticks badly to the plastic pastry mat :-). Good luck

    Q : does the mug not get to heavy?
    I like the glaze and te underglaze off te mugs 👋

    • @annruel1982
      @annruel1982 Před 19 dny +1

      Hi Laura. Thanks for the kind words. The clay is 1/4 inch thick like every other mug, and I beveled all the edges even making some cutouts which eliminated more clay. Also there is no handle like a normal mug. When I pick it up, I dont notice much of a change to my usual mugs. Perhaps a little but nothing too noticeable. Jim and I really appreciate you watching :-)

    How did you repair the crack at the bottom once it was all put together? It looks like it stayed together alrightt through firing. Do you ever single-fire on these? Thank you for your creative ideas.
