  • In this video, we'll be discussing The Brick, a wooden figure that can be difficult to turn, due to its hardness and balance. We'll be turning it using olive ash and Yorkshire grit to see how each of these materials affects the finished product.
    If you're interested in woodturning, or are just looking for a fun project to work on that will challenge your skills, then you'll want to watch this video! By the end, you'll be able to turn the Brick using some of the most difficult techniques available, and you'll be able to see the effect each material has on the figure.
    This woodturning channel, explores the uses of wood when combined with resin, epoxy, to make woodturning projects, that are easy and can be classed as art. A lot of the wood turning projects I make can be completed by the beginner through to the more experienced wood turner. If you have any ideas for artwork, wood inlays, epoxy projects or any other wood turning projects please get in touch. Collaborations are always welcomes.

    Another wonderful design and the wood is stunning too! It certainly is unique which makes it extra special for me because no one else will have one. Whoever is lucky enough to receive it will be thrilled. ❤

      Thanks Dee, you always say something to put a smile on my face. I do try hard not to repeat myself and I keep a list going of ideas for the future, must be 30 or 40 ideas on there currently. You keep watching and I'll keep trying.

    That really is beautiful mike, I love the small upstand on the rim that just draws the eye straight into the bowl where you get to see that beautiful grain, and I particularly like that your bowl mimics the curve of the bark

    Another great-looking bowl Mike. Olive is one of my favorite woods to turn. It has such a lovely figure to it. I also really enjoy turning Mesquite. It is such a hardwood, but has great character to it.

    Quite a fight indeed. Turning anything out of balance is not fun and this was VERY out of balance. I was hoping the piece did not fly off the chuck. I can imagine how you felt when you had to remove the tailstock support. Glad "Murphy" was busy elsewhere.
    Gorgeous piece of wood. The sealer on the bark makes the bark really stand out.
    Very well done.
    Dave.

    • @MikeHolton
      @MikeHolton  Před rokem

      Thanks Dave, trying to do anything on this bowl was frustrating and to be honest I'm glad it's over. Perhaps there are some things that should not be attempted on a small lathe :) . I must also get rid of the daft table underneath it, it's an old Ikea table that was left here when we moved in, whenever I get a new lathe the table is getting chopped up and turned into a bowl or two.
      Murphy has not visited for a few turnings now, I'm sure it will not be long before he's back.
      All the best
      Mike
