  • On 15 November 2013 the Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (2 Scots), took part in a homecoming parade in Glasgow. They marched from Holland Street to George Square in the city centre. The Battalion recently returned from a six month tour in Afghanistan.
The Scottish public were out in force to welcome more than 400 soldiers from the Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (2 Scots) who have just returned from Afghanistan.
The unit was deployed to Helmand Province in April this year and worked with the Afghan police to help improve their capability.
The soldiers were welcomed to the city by Lord Provost Sadie Docherty.
She said the homecoming parade marked the great association the Royal Highland Fusiliers have with the city.
Mrs Docherty added: "You can be assured you are held in the highest regard in Glasgow and across Scotland.
"The challenges you met on a daily basis are unimaginable to most of us who watched you march.
"You may be assured we are all proud and grateful to witness your safe return and you should all be proud of what you have achieved individually and collectively.
"We all, like you, fervently hope stability and peace will be established in Afghanistan.
"The people of Glasgow wish you all the very best for the future and hope it will not be as long before we see the battalion in the city once again."
Tragically, three soldiers from the battalion were killed and six injured when their vehicle was struck by an explosive device.
Lieutenant Colonel Robin Lindsay said: "Our thoughts have been and will continue to be with the families of the three soldiers who were killed on operations.
"Our role was to advise and liaise with the Afghan Uniformed Police.
    "They were outstanding."

As a former 'White Hackle' we dont give a donald what colour the boy is, if hes born here, hes OUR coloured guy, if he serves with us, hes still OUR coloured guy. Should it ever come to it I will be bang in line with which ever jock what ever the colour.
We do Jocks in a fine range of colours youll notice, from classic west of Scotland pale white, through the more weathered englandshire hues and tones. To the" black as two in the morning" as its referred to in Glasgow with no malice afore thought.
The one single colour we do not have is yours.....Yellow!

This is the way soldiers should return home - like soldiers !! In the US where I live our Guardsmen leave and return on busses, waving out the windows like a football team. The old song says "When Johnny comes MARCHING Home..." Soldiers should march.

My son toured Afghanistan in 2013 with 8/9 RAR, due to the government
not wanting to upset the Muslims ( then a labour gov ) their march in
parade was cancelled and a very very ordinary march in at Enoggera
barracks was substituted. I hope for the sake of future generations you
will never allow it to happen there.

watching this makes me feel proud to be Scottish...If we become Independent we will rely on regiments like this...I couldn't join the R.A.F. because my vision wasn't 20-20....but I represented Scotland in a different way, boxing,,,,I've won 3 golds 2 silvers and 8 bronze medals....I worked hard to get them....constant training and a good pep talk from my Dad always gave me an advantage over others...I always looked at It as Scotland v Germany,Canada,Australia,New Zealand,Greece,Italy,France and I have made good friends along the way...:)

    • @Cheezsoup
      @Cheezsoup Před 6 lety

It's NOT reversed, if you look hard you will notice they are carrying something in their arms (a different arm to those behind0 so while those in front are swinging their left arms those behind are swinging their right.
This effect is perhaps easier to see when looking at the officers marching in front (with a sword) as compared to the troops behind
as at czcams.com/video/ueRQEpDda4c/video.htmlm28s (may well be a couple of seconds out but certainly around there)

+guardiasvizzera1 No - but there was a white Zulu who fought against the British in the Zulu Wars His name was John Dunn, his family was originally from Aberdeen and he was orphaned at an early age and raised by a Zulu tribe He died in 1895 leaving 48 widows and 117 children His descendants (more than 6000 strong) still have rights to the lands given him by Zulu King Cetshwayo

+William Thomson John Dunn was indeed known as "The White Zulu", but when the Anglo-Zulu War broke out in January that year, Dunn joined the British side, but did his best to remain out of the fighting, as he had very divided feelings about the war.
He appears to have maintained satisfactory relations with both sides, however, as in the Ulundi Settlement that followed the cessation of hostilities, John Dunn was amongst those given rule over a sub-division of Zululand. Dunn's signal achievement was that he managed to be trusted by both sides.
Some months after the Battle of Ulundi - the final of the Anglo-Zulu War - the Zulu King Cetshwayo was captured by the British. As he walked into captivity, the british officer commanding the detachment that captured Cetshwayo ordered them to form and honour guard, and the British soldiers stood at the Present Arms as he passed.
In initially, King Cetshwayo was kept in quarters in Durban, but soon after he was moved to the Island of St Helena (where Napoleon had earlier lived out his final years in exile), before his cause was taken up and supported by a number of prominent people in Britain, amongst them Lady Florence Dixie, correspondent of the London Morning Post newspaper.
His release from exile was won, and Cetshwayo eventually sailed to England, where he adopted western dress and lived as a free man, becoming very popular in London society.
Eventually, Cetshwayo met with Queen Victoria in Osborne House in the Isle of Wight, and greatly impressed her. I'm afraid that I don't know the precise date, off-hand, though.
By 1882, the division of Zululand had unleashed blood feuds, and in-fighting amongst the minor chiefs of the various divisions who had replaced Cetshwayo's rule of the Zulu unified kingdom erupted into a number of military skirmishes.
Persuaded by Cetshwayo that he was the best person to restore order, Britain agreed to return Cetshwayo to Zululand, and in 1883 he arrived back in Durban.
With the aid of Boer forces, Chief uZibhebhu contested this move, and attacked Cetshwayo's kraal. Cetshwayo was wounded, but escaped to costal city of Eshowe in South Africa, where he lived under British protection. He died a few months later on 8 February 1884, either from a heart attack or poisoning - no-one is really sure.
John Dunn survived all this, dying on 5 August 1895, having married 48 wives and fathered 117 children.

+xetalq Yes i understood...But in substantia a white zulu is not a Zulu...Contra facta argumentum non valet

What argument? I did not indulge in any such argument in my post.
Notwithstanding, who says a white Zulu is not a Zulu? In substance or otherwise?
If the Zulus designate a man as such, then neither you nor I have substantive grounds for argument.
John Dunn was accepted by the Zulus as one of their Chieftains, and was appointed as such by Cetshwayo's father, Mpande kaSenzangakhona, and confirmed as such by Cetshwayo, in his turn.
And if you have not seen a white Maasai, then you need to get out more. My own uncle was a 1st Lieutenant in Her Majesty's Gordon Highlanders (the 92nd Regiment of Foot), and served in Kenya with the King's African Rifles for three years (1952 -1955) fighting the Mau Mau (and earning the MC).
The Mau Mau Uprising was essentially Kikuyu-led, with the Maasai and most Kikuyu not choosing to join. The urge to independence was strong nonetheless, but even so, few white men have been accepted as Maasai tribesmen, although the honour is rare and very difficult to earn, and hardly ever bestowed.
      Parum cognita est periculosum.

Despite their name...the RHF were...latterly NOT a 'Highland Regiment.' As the continental wars sapped manpower...the Highland Light Infantry moved south away from the 'Highland' areas of Inverness and Moray where they were constituted and recruited...and moved to Glasgow where they got more recruits. The Royal Scots Fusiliers never wore kilts...and when the HLI and RSF amalgamated they were given the erroneous title 'Royal Highland Fusiliers'...and wore Trews and not kilts!! They were then constituted into the then Lowland Division. This RHF (2 Scots) mularky is living proof that history, heritage and...above all..tradition count for fuck all. This circus is now largely staffed by non Scots...and they wear kilts. To add more 'Visit Scotland' Touristy type panto...they drafted in 'Cruachan'...that Campbell Goat...who was previously owned by the 'Campbells'...The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. Their loyalty got them decimated by their own Government to little more than a Company strength...and relegated to a kind of Group4/Visit Scotland job of guarding all the royal houses and castles in Scotland. You couldn't make this shit up in a quality comedy sketch...could you?
