    If you simply want to know how he trained and won, then check the time stamps. But I invite you to listen to this whole episode as Lachlan shares his thoughts on a number of things. I also asked him when we will be getting another Thereabouts episode!

    A little about myself:
    New to my channel? I'm an average recreational cyclist that recently moved from America to Girona, Catalunya, Spain. The Vuelta España and The Tour of Catalunya will all be held here in Spain!
    Sometimes I race and when I do, I share my training with you along the way. So far, I've done crit racing, road racing and gravel racing. I haven't done a duathlon or a triathlon yet, but it is something I am thinking about!
    So far in Spain, I’ve seen DSM cycling, SD Worx, Team Jayco Alula, Rally / Human Powered Health cycling, Ineos, Arkea cycling, UAE team emirates and more all training here. Did you know there’s also a GCN studio here?

    I think the advice I would give to all pros who want to try a gravel event is finishing is actually the primary goal not winning…winning is the icing on top but winning at all costs or the only goal is missing the point of gravel…its an adventure by design

  • @huntingsynth
    @huntingsynth Před 8 dny +3

    The true test that gravel remains gravel is that everybody still complains about the course…loose gravel, water crossings, too many choke points, cattle roaming, etc… so long as it is just sort of wake up and a group of buddies race point to point it will be fine

    Great interview C with Mr. Morton. I watched his Great Divide ride via YT and that portrayed his love of offroad cycling. While I'm sure the town of Emporia is grateful to have ex-pro and current professional riders performing in UB, I hope it stays true to its roots and doesn't get too big for its britches and forces people to move to other events that are less stressful as he mentions in min 13 about the "eliteness effect". In the very few years I've watched gravel races they certainly are snowballing in size and from an average rider's perspective the fun of riding a bike potentially gets pushed to the back burner.

      Good point and I agree with you. Unfortunately for riders like us, I think these events will continue to get bigger and bigger each year with more World Tour and former World Tour riders rolling in. Let’s hope the organizers don’t forget what has made gravel such a popular alternative option for the everyday cyclist.
