- It’s 100 miles to the next gas station, 100 miles from the last one. It’s 100 miles from anywhere, to anywhere.
And it’s the bucket list ride that Lachlan Morton spent years dreaming about.
Starting in Banff, Alberta, Canada and ending 2,671 miles later in Antelope Wells, New Mexico, USA, the divide route is as beautiful as it is rugged, as ambitious as it is empty. During his two weeks on the trail, Lachlan felt more scared, more cold, more capable, and more alive than ever.
Enjoy our latest EF Pro Cycling Explore film, “The Divide,” presented by Wahoo.

I saw this at the Boulder Theater with 1,000+ divide loving bike nerds, it was incredible! Way to go Lachlan, so inspirational! FREE HUGS!
When I finished watching the film, it proceeded to bring up YOUR RTD video, John and Mira!!! Love the films the Great Divide have appeared in, and you will ALWAYS carry a spare belt, right?
❤
Your Divide series is what got me into bikepacking man. Wish I could see this in the theater. How cool!!!
I'm watching this as research for your upcoming ride that you've talked about while here with our gang in Florida, Ryan. Of course, I'll rewatch all of your own videos again just before the June race.
What month and date did he start, as no snow in the mountains for the usual race which slows people down? Later on dryer and water is harder to find. Would be great to ride.
Thank you
And winner of the 2024 Unbound!!
Well deserved ❤
Whoever did the sound design deserves an award
I dunno. The bing bong sound is grating
some questionable sound mixing though...
agree, heard some of them i guess in LOTR and also Bleach Anime.
Agree. Who sings the trouble on my mind song?
This man is the real deal. Pushed beyond his limits and prevailed. Quote I will never forget. “Every time you push past something you thought you couldn’t, that’s the gift.”
This film was a gift to all of us. Thank you for sharing your adventure. Bravo Lachlan
I love how even in the worst of times, Lachy still manages to have a chuckle to himself. I think that says a lot more than most people realize.
F@&king Brilliant! My takeaway? Mechanical shifting rules for unsupported rides! Oh, and Lachlan is a beast mentally!
I thought the same. I would go mechanical.
yeh, and that's a 750$ part
i would love it if the industry would make some nice low-normal derailleurs 😢
@@hugejackedman1951look away from the likes of SRAM and Shimano. The cheap Chinese manufacturers like Microshift and LTWOO are filling the lower end market nicely!
And physically!!
Very interesting to see how the old man in Pie Town thought that if riders wanted their name in the book, then they wouldn’t stop by his place. Lachlan stopped by, visited with him, and that man didn’t know Lachlan was on record pace.
great comment ❤
Not only is lachy a fantastic cyclist, and ambassador for the sport he is a genuinely nice guy who always takes time to speak to those who turn out to cheer him on, on his alternative adventures. Quality.
and he even cleaned that one bathroom floor 🤣
The Great Divide's been a 23-year, still ongoing, project for me -- my (now) wife and I rode from the Canadian Border to Rawlins back in 2000, when we'd known each other for less than 6 months. That was a life-changing trip. In 2015 I rode from Rawlins down to Silverthorne. In 2017 I rode from Silverthorne down to Antelope Wells. This film brought back so many memories (it's amazing how many places were so easily recognizable -- those little rollers into Pie Town! That endless treeless road into Atlantic City! and on and on!), and brought up so many emotions, and inspired the heck outta me to get back on the trail and finish the Canadian section (which didn't even exist when I first rode a section) as soon as I can.
Thank you so much for a beautiful effort, and a beautiful film.
Lachy is the most hard-core alternative rider out there.Mad respect.
58:49 “anytime you get to push yourself past something you thought you couldn’t, that’s the gift”
Just want to to thank you for this hour of peace, cycling and land. Great team!
Thanks EF & film crew for supporting an icon in the cycling community. Keep riding, keep going, keep posting. 🌞🙏
The videographer counted the timing so well in so many shots is really crazy, this made this film look like a movie, and they don't get to retake it!
Lachlan has proven the importance of sleep in ultra racing, it affects the mental capability to handle stress, imagine if he's suffering from sleep fatigue while handling those crises (lightning on the mountain, coldness, and mechanical issues).
All in all, I can't neglect the point that made this film great is the fact that the director and editor himself is the brother of Lachlan and a cyclist too! He understands the stake and the rider very well, which aids the storytelling.
Thank you to all who were involved.
The videographer was his brother Angus and his team. Also, video'd Lael on her attempt in 2019 and her AZT Ride.
I love how people walk right by him out front of the convenience stores without knowing he's crushing one of the toughest cycling challenges out there. Slamming chocolate milk and peddling on. 💪🏻
This movie is an excellent watch. Thanks for posting allowing us to share in the ride. Kudos to all involved
As a long distance cycling traveller, loneliness is one most formidable thing to keep pedaling. Laclan is definitely lucky to have the filmmaker all the way to the goal line. Love watching the video!!!!
I agree...as a road racer for years on the National prestige circuit etc...then riding much of the world bike touring/ packing...loneliness was the main problem. doing that..but this was relatively short...albeit torture physically because they are racing... but the film crew made it almost impossible to decide to quit...but very enjoyable to watch and Lachlan is one of a kind..a true gun slinger, cowboy, and Indian all rolled into one wild guy
If I ever needed another reason to never go wireless, thanks! I’m gladly sticking to mech thank you very much.
Very well put together film. Thank you.
One of my favourite parts was when he gave the guy out front the gas station the hug.
EF better take good care of our Lachy. He is irreplaceable 💘
HOLY SHIT. Give this man the record....he shattered the record with a broken derailure... thats absolutely insane... what a legend. Thanks for making this...great watch
“That’s the gift!” Amazing.
Such a positive human in all conditions ❤
Watching this brilliant film after a long ride drinking a beer 🙏🏽
Priceless ❤️
"...I am disgusting but still going" . Sounds both funny and powerful. So much respect. Really inspiring.
I was also there at Boulder Theater to watch the premier. These Morton Bros are truly gifted in their respective fields. And to see them come together like this is truly awesome for us the viewer.
What can be said? It was an incredible effort by an incredible person filmed and brought to us by an incredible crew and team. I’ll be forever grateful for this.
Amazing film,Amazing ride,Amazing man. Great job guys.
The people filming this did an amazing job
Lachlan is definitely one of my heroes. The video and ride were incredible and thank you for putting it all together. Funny how riders basically have a free pass to eat all the junk food they want while they do this, and Lachlan was like, man, I gotta get some vegetables. SO good!
This video is a gem in the world of cycling content on CZcams. We're delighted to add it to our collection and relive the experience again and again.
Thank you Lachlan for taking the world on another amazing adventure. Thanks to the crew that put in all the hours to capture this amazing adventure. I can’t wait to see where you take us next. ❤ Merry Christmas 🎄
34:10 That has to be the most considerate truck driver ever..! Onya mate
Just epically beautiful scenery and storytelling with an incredible soundtrack to match! Thank you!!!
What a masterpiece of a film, and a monumental effort by Lachlan!
Oh Yes, absolute masterpiece! and... I have a strong craving for chocolate milk at the moment...
What a gorgeous gift of a movie. I rode the TD in '22 and this brought back memories both grand and dark. He's right - it is emotional at the end when you find you've done something you really didn't think you could do. Thank you for making something that can inspire others to ride this amazing route and be changed for it.
Representing Brazil/ Representante do Brasil🇧🇷🇧🇷
Great achievement and thanks for the attention you bring to our sport our hobby.
I have two equipment questions:
A) Had Lachlan not enough warm clothes? Not enough rain gear? Or would more stuff just be heavier and wetter?
B) Is electronic shifting worth the risk? If you ride a normal UCI street race with supply cars, sure electronic shifting all the way and if it fails underway you pick a new bike. But on a multi-day-bikepacking-adventure? What is the power and the time saved? What is the comfort won? And what is the possibility it fails during this 2700miles of riding with likely four or more days of rain.
B) is a really good question 😅
Thanks for sharing the film. The bike mechanic in Steamboat, CO noted problems with his derailleur 7 days in (36:03). I'd be hesitant to rely on an electronic derailleur for this remote of ride, but then again people ride the AZT on single speeds.
Well done Lachlan! So inspiring on his determination on keep going. Thank you EF for publishing this.
Incredible, incredible job Lachlan and crew. Well done. Thanks.
What an incredible achievement! Incredible effort from everyone involved.
It's rolling on my 4K TV! Was at the Boulder screening and it’s a great film. Different than other Divide films with a different topic and focus. All of them inspire!
An amazing, inspiring and beautifully told story. You can’t help but get motivation from this.❤
Wow. This is such a well made production and congrats on the ride. What an incredible accomplishment.
Amazing ultra cycling accomplishment and first-rate filmmaking. I've ridden this route and this piece really captures the beauty and beast of it.
Two brothers man!!!! Amazing riding and film making! It’s awesome to see both of them doing something they love. Wish there was more cycling and film making content like this.
What an incredible story about perseverance! Congrats Lachlan!
So inspiring… thank you Lachlan and crew
So beautifully filmed. I felt all the emotions, high and low, and wanted to be out there too.
Aside from the "visitation" rule that applies to the rest of tour divide racers, Lachlan did in fact ride the same route that Mike Hall rode to establish the 2016 record. fun fact. The current route that is raced includes some extra credit hiking :)
Fantastic film and effort by all.
no he didn't. The 2016 route (which I rode) didn't go through Fernie. It doesn't diminish an amazing achievement which should be seen in it's own context.
Inspirational Lachlan! Well documented journey of the Tour Divide! Way to push your mind and body to the limits and back!
God bless you brothers! Love you.
This is the one of best cycling films I've seen. Awesome effort by Lachlan, and a great job by Gus and everyone involved in making the film! I'll never be able to tackle something that huge, but it definitely will inspire my future personal challenges.
Epic stuff! I am currently training for IndiPac which starts in 10 weeks and Lachlan's videos help put me back on track when I am so tired from training and just want to wimp out and stay on the couch.
Love Lachy and love this. Sidenote, I will never own an electroinic shifter. Old school cables for me. Lachy is a beast and such an inspiration to all!
I have both and love both. I definitely wouldn't ride electronic for something so remote. Electronic is a million times better, until it dies. :(
Exceptional filming and editing, more impressive for me than the ride!
The foreshadowing from the mechanic! Great film Angus and EF, great ride Lachlan!
Watching all of these videos is so inspirational! Lachlan, thank you for showing your joys, struggles, and perseverance.
Such a good video! I've seen every Rapha video and many bikepacking films. This is great! Thank you. And of course congratulations to Lachy.
So inspiring. Such a fan of the Lachlans (credit to gus for the amazing film). Grateful to EF for continuing to support this crazy stuff. I could watch a thousand of these, Lachlan inspires me to be a more gracious person and fuels my 🚲 🚲 adventures. Much respect.
Loved this film. Love Lachy. He's my hero. He inspires me to push my limits. The cinematography of this project is next level. Kuddos to Gus and the film crew for capturing his adventure so raw and beautiful. I hope you guys continue to make more films like this!
Probably the most emotional & inspiring cycling doco I have ever watched ❤
The divide deserved a film this beautiful centered on a rider this unique and provocative. Unapologetic in its tone, unrelenting in the unfolding of drama. The incredibly diverse personalities that are drawn to this race/itt is what keeps me coming back for more. I like lachy’s honesty most, though style/approach/heart helps a lot. Blown away that he has raised $1m through cycling.
Lachy is the goat. Another amazing ride and beautiful film. He keeps smashing these records and they don't "count" them because of filming, but the films are what get these insane adventures out there and grow the sport!
What an amazingly well done film! Incredible effort from everyone involved. Enjoyed the beautiful shots and the cuts to the smaller rough phone recordings, you got both the feels of the scenery and the emotions of this fantastic ride. Thanks for making this available to all of us
Absolute Legend. We will talk about Lachy for a long time and all your adventures. Really enjoyed this. Thank you for everyone's work in putting this together. 👊😁
Great documentation man. Thanks for taking us mortals along for the ride!
Amazing documentary, amazing challenge, exceptional athlete and human being! Well done!
Angus and Lachlan. What a dangerously good combo!
What a Legend ! Just as positive as they come ! Thank you for sharing your incredible journey and you deserve a few cold ones🍻 !!!
As always an awesome story. I always look forward to seeing what both of you do next. Whether it’s Gus’s storytelling or Lachlans accomplishments. Truly love what you both do 👏👏👏
Thanks for filming this. It was amazing to watch. Great job lachlan
Lachlan, congratulations! Obviously you are such an incredible inspiration to us all. Both as an athlete and a person. Thank you. Free hugs !
Beautiful and moving. Thank you Lachlan and film crew! :)
Felicitaciones nómada...es increible tu fortaleza, resistencia y perseverancia en ahuantar tantas horas montado en tu bici, un reto tán fuerte en pocos días... la pasión te mueve....erés una maquina...mis admiración...
What a great watch, loved it. Really makes you want to ride the divide just not as hardcore as Lachlan.
And a big thank you for putting it up for free on CZcams
It took me 25 days, and damn does that route test you. Even at my speed it often felt like the route was constantly trying to break both me and my bike.
I really like the soundtrack 👍
That Lachlan guy is charming and inspirational - Dig that dude and his bro. - love the dance of sport and art that this films is. Cheers!
Emocionado de seguirte Lachlan. Angus y compañía, inmenso trabajo. GRACIAS.
The cinematography went hard on this 😤
I'm at a loss for words. Incredible - rider and filmmaking.
Brilliant, thank you so much 🎉❤
Epic. Lachy is an inspiration. the Morton brothers have shown the world a deeper value for cycling, and thats beautiful. Johannes' videography was exceptional on this film, chapeau.
Just incredible stuff when it comes to cycling, but also cinematic. Pure inspiration. Thanks guys! 🙌
Congrats to everyone involved in this amazing beautiful 🎥👏👌👍🙌
Spectacular as always, Lachlan. Bravo!!!👏👏👏
LM, Favorite rider bar none, GM, favorite documentary filmmaker. Thank you both and your extended team, for this most incredible of films, it tops all the ones prior which are also pretty spectacular. Thereabouts,,,,
Thank you, love to follow Lachlan's adventures 😎
Wow, Lachlan is a true inspiration, and he embodies what it is all about: to challenge yourself.
So much respect for how you pulled this off, Lachlan. Great work, great storytelling by you and the whole crew. Thanks for letting us share - and be motivated - by the ride
Simply pushing on like that with no derailleur is absolutely incredible.
Absolutely EPIC ride. Truly inspiring person. Watched breathlessly.
Literally just finished watching the video. Amazing journey. More amazing is the money you have raised for charities by your adventures . Outstanding Sir. I am a bigger fan of what you do now!
So good, thank you for this documentary.... more please....
Awesome!! 🙌 Much respect, Lachlan!
You are a hero, to me, to many, TRUE GRIT, Lachy… I cheered you, several times as you did this monster ride…and loved THE Divide…endurance/trekking cyclists are a breed apart. YOU ROCK!! Happy Holidays to you and your family. 🎄💖
4 minutes early!!
we were just too excited.
Incredible ride as always. And the money and awareness raised is something else indeed. What a legend!
Great evocative and compelling film, congrats to Lachlan on an inspirational ride!
