- The service brakes soon light is illuminated on the dash of this 2007 General Motors Suburban. I wish I could say that I fixed but in the end I believe it was the brake module that has failed and causing the light on the dash.
Owner states he has not noticed any difference in the way the brake pedal "feels" and the light come on right after the engine is started. It does not need to drive for the light to come on.
I topped off the brake fluid reservoir (DOT 3) and that did not shut the light off. Also cleaned the ground wire for the brake module and I thought that would do it but no such luck.
So in the end I believe it is the brake module that has failed and need to be replaced.
Sorry I could not fix the problem in the video but it will give you a baseline of what needs to happen.

I am sitting home without a truck because of this issue for the second week in a row. Moving from NC to SC. Sent this to my mechanic who is GREAT with hopes this will help him. I am hauling a lot with my truck but i have to trust my brakes!
What did your mechanic say the problem was the first time?
For everyone having this issue, the problem is not abs module, the trouble is the booster, and if booster has brake fluid inside, you must replace brake pump too, the VIC shows that because booster has a actuator inside, abs module activates this one right after you start vehicle, if booster vacuum sensor which is mounted the booster doesn't increase voltage (vacuum drop) abs shows that message. Actuator must have 1 ohm resistance, and unplugging the connector that comes from abs must be 12 volts between the 2 wires just for an instant right after vehicle starts.
Before replacing anithing check trouble codes on abs module. Although for me that was the solution it could be something different to you
Thx
My light comes on after driving for about 5 minutes. Got brakes replaced, fluid is full.
So you saying brake booster and brake pump need replacing?
@@roderickdonley8500 most likely the pressure sensor. I unplugged mine and plugged it back in and fixed it
@@sherrylaumann2980 where is the pressure sensor located?
Thanks for showing me how to wipe off the master cyl resevoir
Thank you 👌🏽thank you for the info & comment update on break booster. Service break soon message cleared. I followed your instructions all the way to break booster comment lol
so great full, Blessed Me...2011 Birban Ltz 1500 ready to go.. saved me a lot of paper🤣
It was your booster?
Thank you for taking the time to show ideas for fixing.
How do you disconnect the warning chime? It won't shut off for a full 30 seconds, and is LOUD! It is driving me nuts.
Check the brakes fluid level mine had the same warning
Could be a blown fuse? Brake booster?
Great video thanks buddy
So its been 4 years since this video, did you fix the problem? Great infromative video
OMG. Thank you so much for showing this video regardless of the negative comment I followed your video had the same problem and wallah it's fixed and I'm so proud I did it myself keep these videos coming!. You would a great help
Your welcome. Dudes on here get all crazy and stupid.
Did you fill up break fluid reservoir or cleaned the cables under the car?
Cannot find the link to you tryin the brake modulator
It’s most likely the Brake booster sensor connected to the brake booster. After I replaced it the signal went away.
Same here
Getting same message, replaced pads toped fluid cleaned abs sensors and all, but wheres the booster sensor?
Where's the sensor? Part# ?
Part # 20903152 sensor kit
Chevrolet suburban brake booster sensor
I have a 2005 Cadillac escalade ext.
I was driving other day and brake light and TC light came on.
Dash display also read service brake system and stability system disabled.
A minute late I went to stop and had no brakes. One of my brake lines had ruptured. I replaced the ruptured brake line along with 3 others bc they were rusted looking.
Now that lines are replaced, brakes are bled, and master cylinder reservoir is full all of my lights are still on.
Will these lights turn themselves off or will I have to have them reset with a scanner? It's been 2 days and they are still on.
Exact same issue here. I’m wondering if it could be the wheel speed sensor?
How much is a brake module?
I do this and my work is done
Thanks a lot
Check inside the brake booster,,, if theres a brake fluid inside,,, Brake master is leaking.... then replace brake master ang brake booster together
this is the only correct response i have seen
Did you test the break booster vacune censor. They go bad and trigger this message also. A lot cheaper than a break module.
My vehicle is GMC Yukon slt 2011. Started facing this problem and I am still stuck with this notification. It started with the brake booster, got it changed but the message came back, then after checking it was found that there is a problem with ABS, got it changed and original ABS program was installed. I had to do a procedure of opening the booster and checking the pressure along with bleeding the brakes but, the message came back. Now what? Ground cable was also cleaned.
The message appears after couple minutes of driving.
Where’s the BRAKE MODULE LOCATED
2011 Denali- gmc sierra, thanks
Well that's almost 6 minutes of my life I won't get back🤦🏽♂️
Then you wasted more time leaving this comment 🤦♂️
😂😂😂😂😂
What are you calling the brake module? The master cylinder?
The abs unit
I have a 2004 Escalade whit the service brake booster..
here is a tip. DON'T fill your brake reservoir unless you know the pad level ft @ rr. if you over fill you brake fluid and the next time the brakes get done... if they don't check the fluid level you get a nice brake fluid shower under the hood YAY!!!
If you put a new module in do you have to have it reprogrammed
is it the abs module
+Preston Clark most likely
I had this problem on my 2011 Silverado and bleeding the brakes corrected the problem
I will say if you're brake fluid is between the min and max line, you shouldn't be getting the message so that's pretty obvious that's not the culprit. If it was below the min line, then maybe.
You should never top off " brake fluid ever period!!!!, if level is low there is a reason low pads leaking wheel cylinders or another issue that is causing low fluid, brake system is sealed.
💯
Just wanted to chime in. There is an issue with the o-ring between the master cylinder and booster. In 9 out of the 10 cars that came in with that issue, I replaced the o-ring and the customer no longer had the issue . The code if you have the scanner is C0299.. Good Luck everyone
Whete i buy o ring
@@gilbertorojas5157 Dealer is best bet.
If the o ring is bad, I should see leakage right? Or are you suggesting still change it even though there's no leaks.
Got new brakes, and brake fluid is full. Light will not go out...very annoying.
it should leak into the booster if the ring is bad, recomend it to replace this ring or master cylinder, just did and the lights still come on, have to keep digging!!!😢
Is it the o rings in the assorted pack? I'm no mechanic, but ill try anything once
These trucks has brake pad sensors, that’s the real fix , very easy set on the front and a set on the rear
no they don't.
Did you find out what the problem was? I am having the same issue with my 09 Silverado.
+Silenceownz it was the module
The brake module?
What kind of shop doesnt pull the codes doing diag? And you dont top off the brake fluid when you do brakes. If the fluid is low it means low pads or a leak in the system what a hack. The fluid in the reservoir is there as an over view of the health of the brake system
Glad I skipped to the end of this video. So I didn't waste 6:42.
Vick M did you have the same problem?
Juan Sanchez. I did. Cleaning the ground at the front right frame rail fixed it
Vick M ok thank you I'll have to give it a try. My (service brakes soon) notification came on out of the no Where. But thanks again
Did you disconnect the battery.
Ted Bundy's garage... We won't fix it but we will show you what don't work...lol
I think the problem is you didn't service the brakes soon enough ! LOL
was it the module
Preston Clark wondering to
You should believe it, they pay kids to do them not mechanics lol
What the hell.. you didn’t fix anything. Don’t post a video if you can’t fix the issue
Its better video than the one younposted aint it. This video shows you how to diagnose and do the 2 top possibilities. This video is very helpful. You eople are ungreatful.
He was just showing you things (the top three) things to check. His intent wasn't to show you how to fix the problem, but rather what to check. From other reading, these are the three big main issues (aside from a bad booster pump being a possible forth).
😡Lol Trouble shoot video to diagnose the fix bro 😎
pull the codes
No code to pull. It isnt the check engine light.
No codes came up
My problem was... Unplug booster cable!!
There goes 8 minutes of my life
You posted this video four years ago did you ever figure it out?
Nope. It was my brother in laws truck and he ended up selling it
Just got done changing the O-ring about to try your method of cleaning the ground cable oh ring was only $.50 lol
And I did have a very little leak
@@bundysgaragewhy are you telling folks the module is the problem when you sold the truck without testing out that hypothesis?. Buying a module and finding out it is something as simple as a corroded or unplugged connector can be vexing.
You didn't tell us what's wrong with the suburban lol
Just wanted to let everybody know if your having a problem (Service brakes soon) just changed out the O-ring still didn’t fix it check the fluids didn’t fix it and cleaned the ground cable still not fixed I will share As soon as I figure out what it is not saying none of these problems could be your problem just wanted to share so people aren’t scouring the Internet looking for the stupid freaking problem fix
Al, I’ve had the master cylinder and brake booster replaced, AND THEN the Service Brakes Soon problem started happening. Took it back and the shop changed out the brake switch under dash and the brake booster sensor. None of that fixed the problem. So frustrating! Have you found a fix for your problem yet?
@chrisallen9777 hello did you every get this figured out?
Watched 7 minutes of video that didn't solve the problem.
Sorry man. I was hoping one of the things I did would fix the problem so I was taking you along for the ride. Maybe if you try these on your vehicle one of them might work. Not everything has a simple solution.
Well put. These people are ungreatful.
come on Chris, go see your mom cooking.
What the fuckery is this??? That fluid level wasnt low haha. Its just showing a max and min level as long as its in between it wouldnt cause any lights to come on unless the level sensor has gone bad
I hate when people are mechanically inclined. Do not add new brake fluid to old fluid. If you read you car owner manual, it tells you to replace DOT 3 fluid every 3 years or 30k miles. Brake fluid brakes down from clear fluid to dirty. Not many people know that you have to change brake fluid like this genius brake module shoot. Omg just throw parts at it and if that doesn't fix it throw a new vehicle at it.
3 yrs/30k is too often. Depending on the year (mine being a 2013) it says every 150k or 7 years, whichever occurs first.
So? you have no clue!!!!
