- It's the Arctic Monkey's first release in 4 years! The song is called "There'd Better Be A Mirrorball" and I have to say I did not expect this when I sat down to react to a new Arctic Monkeys track. What do you think of it? Do you like this kind of style?

I absolutely adore arctic monkeys' new sound, honestly prefer the loungey direction their music is taking, I also loved their last album, feels like a natural progression of their sound.
I agree 100%
Yes please! Their old music is wonderful but their new sound is just GOLDEN. Especially with the Alex Turner’s voice which is perfect! It’s powerful and hypnotizing, matching the vibe of the song
I had no idea who Justin Hawkins was when I subscribed to him. I just enjoyed his wit and his “nice” reviews. But Saturday I watched the tribute concert and there was Justin in his sparkly jumpsuit absolutely killing it. Who in their right mind would attempt “On Fire” or “Under Pressure” and perform flawlessly in front of potentially millions of people watching all over the world. And kudos for helping out Brian when his voice wouldn’t cooperate and the intro was lil off. Great teamwork. I was rocking my walker in delight. Well done, Justin. You gave your friend the perfect send off.
No one cares
@@TheGrader600 I care. Helmet
@@TheGrader600 no one cares what you think
@@TheGrader600 Actually I think quite a lot of people do, so go and be a keyboard warrior elsewhere
@@TheGrader600 To quote the great philosopher, Justin Hawkins. "Off you fuck"
It really does give me Serge Gainsbourg vibes or 70s Italian pop. Cinematic and not hooky, not Spotify friendly. It's a fun one to sing in the kitchen while making brushcetta.
oh Serge was an amazing artist.
I had the same idea, turns out Alex Turn-er has a french girlfriend....
@@robertsteinberger5667 To be fair though, he was making music like this long before he got with his girlfriend. The first Last Shadow Puppets album was in 2008, which is where those influences started to shine through.
I’ll be the annoying Italian correcting you.
Bruschetta, pronounced brooskehttah
Literally read this comment while cooking Italian food.
This is a very mature sounding Arctic Monkeys track
It’s so good 😩😩
Arctic Monkeys just keep making their music more and more complex, there's always something too break down, from the music to their videos
I love all Monkeys albums, this one is amazing. Relaxing, reflective, lyrical and instrumental masterpiece
That Hot For Teacher was the best moment of the entire tribute! You guys sounded amazing! Wolfy played it flawlessly and Josh Freese on drums!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It was outstanding! Well done Justin.
"On Fire" wasn't too shabby either!
That truly is a Scott Walker vibe ... lush and a bit dark ... eerily intriguing and cinematic ...♥
RICK BEATO….He say Yeeeah! 👌🏻😃
You’re so sharp. I couldn’t pick what it reminded me of and then in a flash you mentioned Scott Walker and of course, yes it was he I was trying to pinpoint!
This song's impact is greater on every listen.
Justin Hawkins is the best front man of the last 30 years. 🤘🤘❤️
I love this Arctic Monkeys song. It's darker and unexpected. I love the guitars and the moodiness all round. It's rainy day music.
What’s the name of the song?
@@carlsalazar4490 "there'd better be a mirror ball"
Welcome back Justin, you were simply amazing at the tribute show! Super proud of you and Rufus for crushing it at Wembley Stadium.
Reid, thank you so much, that's incredibly kind of you. Thank you!
I've only gotten into Arctic Monkeys in the last few years and I'm really enjoying their evolution as a band. Their last two albums have been great. Loving the trajectory they're on. So exciting to watch live too and the development in Alex's voice and stage presence is phenomenal. They released it at the perfect time - sounds like end of summer melancholy to me.
Very impressive
Where have you been the last 15 years?!? Glad you’re enjoying their new stuff
I get mega James Bond Theme vibes from this song! It's great!
Very similar patterns and orchestral flair
Your performance at Taylor Hawkins tribute was awesome!!! The whole thing was so well put together and very emotional.
The intro riff of The Arctic Monkey's is reminiscent of the bridge ('please don't be long...') on 'Blue Jay Way' by The Beatles. Really enjoying your channel - recommending it to everyone I know who loves music. Would love to hear you talk more about The Beatles...don't trust anyone who doesn't like them! Just been enjoying listening to the 'Easter is Cancelled' album on repeat...
Yes, good spot.
Haha mad that mate..I messaged the same thing then immediately after read the same 😎🤟
I am not familiar with that song so it just sounds very classic and very, very introspective to me, a little like the Carpenters, I will have to check it out
I was in high school when AM came out and that obviously was a very big deal, I hadn’t heard of them before (I was an emo kid lol) but I had an absolute blast going and getting into their older stuff. And then, years later, Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino came out and I was _swept off of my feet_ . I was a fan of everything they’d done before but TBH&C was on such a different level. That album proved to me that Alex can be trusted to create whatever he likes, his ability to craft such an immersive, specific atmosphere with that album amazed me and I absolutely have faith in wherever he decides to go next.
Would love to see some Jeff Buckley reactions following Violets tribute at the weekend!
Welcome back! that must have been some show to be a part of - Obviously it would be better under cheerier circumstances. I watched all six hours of it and it was quite a tribute. Everyone was absolutely amazing! Top notch!
I was there on Saturday. I'm still processing it. Such an emotional event for many reasons (not just the obvious). You smashed it Justin; loved Under Pressure in particular. Nice job.
Hi! I have loved your music since the Darkness: permission to land. Just discovered your youtube channel and im currently binge watching my way through your uploads lol. I loved seeing you on the live stream of the tribute show. Everyone was incredible. I feel like it was a massive show of respect for taylor hawkins and the event overall seemed huge
I loved it Justin. I’m so glad you got to be a part of such a historic show ✌️❤️😊
I heard this song by chance in the background today and was mesmerised by it’s beauty. Thanks Justin 🥰
Huge congrats on your performance at the tribute concert! Absolutely smashed it and represented the UK! Loved it!!
Alex Turner has always mentioned Scott Walker as a major influence but it’s funny how quickly Justin picks up on it so quickly
You were brilliant at the tribute concert, Justin. Well done mate! Special mention for the Coattail Riders songs you sang on. Taylor would have been well chuffed with that
I keep coming back to this video, this song by the arctic monkeys is something else. I've never had a song stuck in my head for so long.
Really glad you covered this, I can’t stop watching the music video.
Been waiting for this eagerly since the song was released. Great review JH!
I saw the arctic monkeys a few weeks ago at Reading. They were amazing, alex nailed every song, he changed outfits throughout the set including changing to a white shirt and denim jacket when playing some old classics. They played numerous old songs and it felt like they put effort in to gives fans what they wanted, a sing along with outfit changes throwing you back in time. They played maybe 5 songs off hotel tranq and also played a new song and every time they played something that wasn’t a ‘classic’ singalong of theirs, a fair amount of the crowd booed and left, it created the worst atmosphere I’ve ever seen at a gig and it was such a shame because they were so amazing, if there wasn’t so many fake fans in the crowd it would have been the best live performance I’ve seen.
oh dear, what's up with people?
'They played maybe 5 songs off hotel tranq'
They played two. I was there lol
But yeah the gig was marred by 16 year old chavs.
@@MrNorbo95 must of been new songs then
@UCoKBYJur43q8nexRdxntnMQ They played two. One Point Perspective and TBHC. The setlist is publicly available on setlist.fm for your reference.
I assume you’re getting mixed up with songs from Suck it and See and Humbug that you thought were from TBHC.
@@OscarJamess Yeah they played one new song.
Great show over the weekend. Enjoying the videos and your outlook and insight. Thank you
Didn't realise Justin was the front man for The Darkness when I first watched his CZcams channel either. Just thought he was an amazing dude with great insight into music. Thought he was a really great guitar player and vocalist. Figured he was a musician but when I realised who he was, I thought "How did I miss that?!!" What a huge difference a mustache makes on some people! Lol!
Stopped for his personality and stayed for his personality.
I was at the Falkirk gig on Sunday and it was unreal, and really moving knowing what a raw and I'm sure pretty life-changing experience you'd had just the day before.
This was ace too, never gotten into Arctic Monkeys but this is really rich and lovely - and always love a Serge reference!
This song blew my mind. So glad to find your reaction video to it. Love your music and adore this channel!
You were tremendous man. Great show - Hope you're really proud of the part you played in it. A beautiful tribute to Taylor
Delighted to have stumbled upon you addressing this track. I absolutely love it and applaud them for what they’re doing here - a great extension to their last album (hated by many but now my firm favourite). Love the use of that chord when he lands on the word “do” in v1. Cheers Justin.
Love the new track so much! Its so beautiful especially when the strings comes in
Justin I'm having a tough time and your channel has brightened my mood, I don't know how to explain the comfort and security your channel gives me
Thank you
Such a good person and musician so glad I came across your channel it's great and makes me happy so thank you justin for everything
Scott Walker and Serge Gainsbourg; exactly the names that popped up to my mind when i heard the song on bbc 6 music last week. Eerie, haunting, beautiful, and romantic at the same time. Great channel Justin, keep it going.
I love watching you deconstruct songs on your guitar ☺️ This is a song that I would normally dismiss as not my taste, but you made it sound so interesting that I’m going to have to give it a better chance. As it doesn’t have a chorus, would that eerie repeating melody be considered the hook?
My first Arctic Monkeys listening, thank you. Loved it.
Welcome back to your routine. Looking forward to hearing about the seismic experience that was the Tribute. What an amazing lineup and show of love.
I said this had Scott Walker vibes to my mates and no-one knew what was going on about! It’s the dissonance, the perversion of that old Hollywood sound. Like a funhouse mirror reflection of glamour; decadent but somehow distorted
Yea you nailed it, I kept getting that phrygian dominant 7 vibe but right from the gate the tension from the C#/Db it was just an unending almost relaxing tension building, words fail how clever the mood set is.
You described it perfectly!
Yessss it totally does!
This is what I said too! It’s raining today…
alex turner and his best mate miles kane are hardcore scott walker fans
I have been down the Justin Hawkins rides again rabbithole for a few days. I love your channel. I love your band and what you did honoring Taylor was amazing. Much respect Justin. My only regret is it took me so long to find your channel.
AMAZING that's it to play and hangout with all that rock royalty 👍👍
Thanks again for riding again from AZ
I personally love the song. I believe that it relates to the relationship between the band and their audience. The expectations of an audience that are at various stages of maturity juxtaposed to the bands creative growth. Much like the last chord of the intro, we aren't getting what we expect. We as the fans expect a mirrorball and anything else might leave us with a heavy heart. I think they're smashing it. The song gives the fans something to chew on in advance of the new album. Music should be about expression of the artist, not giving the fans what they have come to expect. Great video Justin!
Spot on 💜
I've not liked anything they've done for a long time....
I agree. I also thought that it’s directed to their audience and their growth as a band.
fantasticly put and couldn't agree more
Much like life itself the music they make evolves and changes. Some may like it others may not. Some people want to be as it once was, others accept it and move on. I heard someone once say, There really isn't a bad arctic monkeys album. They're well made, different even people who aren't a fan of the newest work have respected that it sounds well made.
Great review as per proper in-depth. I never was into the Darkness but since finding Justin’s channel I’m hooked!
Lived your split jump at the end of Hot for Teacher!! Didn't expect Wolfie to do VH.let alone On Fire ! FKN EPIC!!! You all Killed it!!!
love this, love you dear justin hawkins. thank you for showing me music in a way i didnt understand before, without it feeling like a lesson.
Fabulous and moving day at the tribute concert. You were great my friend!
Justin, you did an amazing job at the Tribute concert. Keep Rockin' ... from your fan since The Darkness first album. :)
Hey Justin just watched Rick Beato talking about Wolfgang’s phenomenal performance. He’s stoked you wanna chat with him on your channel. Please get it together. What a wonderful way to honour Taylor. You were magnificent. ⭐️❤️
You were right with "HOM-Me"
And you killed it at the tribute show!
Justin!
Absolutely fantastic performance at the tribute concert, your voice was absolutely out of this world especially with Brian and Roger!
Strangely I wanted to hear what you would have sounded like with Queen because of the high notes.
All I’ll say is that I loved every second of it.
Rock on 🤘🏻
I saw you at Taylor's tribute and what an amazing performance and stage presence!!
I remembered that I loved the video for "I believe I'm a thing called love" I found your channel and I'm already following, hugs from Brazil ♥️
ps: I loved your sparkiling outfit and you singing Queen, JUST PERFECT!!
The only thing that is going to make The Car even better is hearing your take on it Justin. It's so cool to listen to the ramblings of someone with so much inside track New viewer, but for sure a subscriber and sharer.
New subscriber here, I saw you on the Tribute show and looked you up and Ive spent 2 days on and off deep diving into your channel, you are such a delight. So funny and I love your discussions on music and wherever that takes you.
Kudos to you I never knew how much of a musical savant you are. I’m addicted to your channel

You killed it on Saturday Justin ! What a day , what a show .
great job at the tribute show!!! you rocked
Rick Beato just gave you a shout-out in his video today about Wolfgang Van Halen at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert. Rick said "Let's do it man!" So to steal a line from Almost Famous, IT'S ALL HAPPENING!
Have never really got or understood the Arctic Monkeys music. But this song is so good! Can’t stop listening to it. It’s beautiful.
I’ve been down with Covid for 5 days now and you’ve been a part of my everyday activity while shoved all alone in my room. Amazing stuff at the tribute show and you are now associated with my first run in with the Rona. Thanks for helping me through, it’s been a fun ride.
Get well soon. Also get some zinc, C, and D. They blocked the use of the safe drugs to take early in the illness-all we got are vitamins.
Q&A: Hello Justin, very sorry for your loss of a friend and relation of the band. How in the holy effing heaven did you manage to cover a song by a band you absolutely adore and then do it in front of a crowd of people who lost one of their heroes as well as dealing with the loss. Thanks, love the videos.
thank you Justin, I like the way you described it , It reminds me the type of music I would listen in college as well , scott walker type thing... a masterpiece.
i always love watching someone work out a song, especially mr. hawkins. wish i had the focus and patience to do it myself lol
You do trust me you’ve just got to find a band or artist that blow your fucking mind (mine was Nirvana/Kurt Cobain) and from the moment I heard there first album Bleach I just sat on my bed and learned every song on the album one at a time by myself until I was utterly sick of making mistakes and then eventually you break through!
But every artist/guitarist is always learning no matter what some might say...
I love how early you picked up on the Scott Walker influence, Alex has mentioned a few times the influence his albums have had on his writing with the monkeys and particularly with the last shadow puppets! Nice one. Keep it up
saw them 2 weeks ago in paris but when i listened to this new song it was great
alex s vocals r really nice on that one
I just subbed after hearing you and Rick Biato are doing something together oh and after the awesome Wimbledon show! That’s a concert that I will be watching for hers to come.
I just wanted to let you know how amazing i thought you were at the tribute concert, it was clear to see the love you had for Taylor and all the musicians taking part x
Is he related to Taylor? Scared to ask but you didn’t look like you’d rip my head off.😁
@@cjlive5182 haha ww thank you no they're not related x
Is it just me, or can you hear that first note of his theme in your head before he plays it?
Loved your performance at the tribute show and that cat suit was spectacular!
8:25 I love how you say that because Alex is theeeee biggest Serge fanboy to ever exist, so he would 100% take it as a compliment methinks (also, saw you at the Taylor gig through the livestream and you and everyone else knocked it out of the fucking park!!!! a brilliantly unforgettable perfomance, I'm so happy that it all went smoothly
Cool stuff, keep up the nice work, fantastic job at the TH Tribute, you never cease to impress in live situations, turned me into a fan..
I struggled a little bit with the evolution of the Arctic Monkeys. I think my tiny lizard brain maybe just wasn’t ready for it. However I really enjoyed this new track, even more so after the technical analysis that I’ve just witnessed. I absolutely should and will return to the last couple of albums and give them another chance. Good day! X
Exactly the same here Ben. The Josh Homme record was the first bump in the road for me, because AM doing desert stoner rock wasn't what I was expecting at all. I've warmed to all of their newer output somewhat after returning to them myself. Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino just won't work for me at all though, no matter how many times I tried to re-listen. Good luck on your rediscovery journey though. ✌
I think this new song sounds like they wanted Tranquility Base to sound. It was always a cool concept and great lyrics, but the songs really should have stayed as demos.

I went to Wembley and loved every moment. So lucky to get tickets. And today, Tuesday, is the first day I’ve felt like I’m balancing out from the overwhelming emotion of the power and performances at #taylorhawkinstribute ♥️
Wow..... I can only imagine. Just watching it live was so emotional, and I've been watchi g it over and over every day since. So being there would seem so surreal. So happy you got to experience what felt like the best rock gig since forever.
me too, and much like you it took me a while to go back to reality after it. still not entirely there yet. ♥
Beautiful man
Fantastic work as always ♥️
i love your channel man, stay cool
Great to see this Justin, and whilst I knew a bit about the recording and remixing of parts of In Utero and Steve’s approach, I’d never heard that letter, it’s refreshing today as it must have been then surely?
Part way through the TV edit of the Hawkins Tribute, I really appreciated you performed in your own style, not a karaoke rendition (no disrespect to cover bands that do superb jobs), and that was a great way to honour the man. All the best
Thank you!!
That Wembley show was incredibly powerful for those of us who watched it. I can only imagine what it was like to be there and performing on stage. I can see how you need some time to process it all and get your head around it.
Justin, love your videos and analysis of all these songs and artists. I was curious what your opinion was of cheap trick. I think a review of anything they’ve done would be a fun video. Thanks for the videos. Always enjoyable. Cheers!

Fantastic show mate, your contribution to the tribute was 100%.🎸🎸🎸
Great video. First one of yours I've watched. I loved the Arctics from then, all the way to now. I love how they're not running to the same well every time they bring something new out. My favourite bit that you pointed out was how there's no hook/riff to the song as that's my favourite part, it's almost involuntary but peaceful like a kite.
You mentioned Scott Walker similarities. I've never gotten round to listening to Scott. Could you recommend any tracks that spring to mind when listening to this one?
You were so awesome at the tribute. Very well done!
Rick Beato mentioned the collab you suggested in his latest vid. Can't wait for this to happen!
Brilliant analysis as always Justin you legend. I like the song - well done AM.
Welcome home Justin... just watched you sing Van Halen... great job
What a beautiful beautiful tune.
Amazing break down of the song, Loads of layers I didn’t even hear first few times. I would like to hear some dive into the lyrics too as Alex Turner is an amazing lyricist
Justin, I'd like to recommend August is falling. They're one of my favorite bands. I saw them at the stone pony last month and they released some new songs recently.

Thanks for playing vibration festival Justin,
I know it’s only a little gig for you guys but it was just across the road for us and it was like seeing one of your favourite bands play in your garden,
The bit during get your hands off my woman when you asked people to lift their kids up to sing along with you was hilarious, not just the woman who lifted her child up and did that three step forwards and fall flat on your face thing, the kid was laughing so no harm done, so thanks again and Nae Bothir
Amazing tribute to Taylor. Your performances were amazing. Very emotional night. I hope everyone in the foo fighters, family and friends of Taylor are doing ok.
Your performance at the tribute gig was excellent man. 👏
Amazing stuff as usual Justin! Reallt great!
That chord! Between intro and the pulses. It’s pure suspense. I adore it. Kind of like a Tristan chord
great observation! Kind of Wagner esque
Would love to hear you talk about the Beatles. ...I was once told there are two types of people in the world - People that like the Beatles and people that don't like the Beatles yet.
Truth.
I had a record store guy tell me almost the same thing about Prince, years ago. "There are two kinds of people in the world: those who like Prince, and those who haven't heard the right album yet." Maybe it's a bit.
I do enjoy these. Thanks Justin.
This is such a great video. Thanks for the insight 👌🏻
