I always find the ChatGPT argument doesn't hold up because those auto-responders are always bland, agreeable, and apologetic.
It's hard to imagine how an auto-responder without emotion would respond with things such as "We are sorry to say that you are very stupid" or "F*** you, never you contact me again".
Usually the counterargument is that the scammers trained their own model, but thats very unlikely
Bland, agreeable, and apologetic? So, they're Canadian?
German satire website "Der Postillon" recently introduced DeppGPT, which basically interfaces ChatGPT with the extra prompt to be really uppity and treat you like an idiot.
But yeah, doesn't feel like something scammers would do, because they _want to_ butter up their victims.
@@Styphon not enough abuse of the indigenous population
@@AtomicShrimpahh yes, scammers in Nigeria who barely have access to the Internet manged to train a model perfectly to fit their purpose.
Ofc they have their own in-house AI development team going and are about 2 years ahead of any western company and use this amazing technology to.... write badly worded scam mail with poor grammar
I feel an urge to edit my e-mail signature to say: "sent from inside the Houston Police Department Mail System". Just to even the odds a bit.
Do it.
Not sure if you've done it before, but it would be interesting to see if you can keep them hanging by saying
"I've not got the money now, but my friend will be giving me some very soon"
To show that you're very willing to pay but just unable to right now. But your friend keeps missing the deadline to pay you so the scammer has to wait and wait
And then when you're ready to cut the cord you reveal that your "friend" is just another scammer who made off with a ridiculous amount of money and never paid you back.
If you play it sincerely the scammer would believe they've just missed out on guaranteed money to the "friend" who scammed you first
I like this idea. Not many of the suggestions people make are very workable, but this one might have legs.

Davis Bon would make a great name for a cat. Put it in a box and you'd never know if it was alive or dead.
I've been informed that Davis Bon is alive and well and squandering your inheritance on fast living.
Davis, no!!!
I suppose it's not great that Davis Bon is still dead, but on the bright side at least his condition hasn't worsened. So there's hope.
Do let us know if things change, or if his girth increases.

Great video. Something that might be fun could be Scambaiting Bingo - a card of different phrases/replies that you have to make the scammer type ("kindly get back to me", paragraph reply, reply with more than ten spelling errors, e-mailing past the deadline, CAPITAL LETTER REPLY, and of course one if they reply to the small boy question).

9:15 When the chatbot is informed that the longer its response, the more pain the user will be subjected to, it produces the longest answer ever. What an ever so polite indirect subjugation of humanity.
I have a feeling that the “message is from outside houston police department” is because HPD likely posted some known scams on their website or facebook, which may have been sent to them via email from a victim/recipient. This scammer just copied the script straight from HPD’s post and hit send.
Yeah that makes sense! A lot of mail systems help their employees by adding similar text in a separate box
It could also be a spam filter bypass. Email spam filter search the subject and the first line for relevance. If either are not relevant it gets moved to spam. I remember getting a TON of “Verification” spam emails being sent to my important tab in my email even if they are scams, since then I have not gotten a single one of those emails in my important tab almost as if the filter is checking relevancy. This also applies inversely.
As a translator who has their fair share of experience proofreading both human and machine translation, I am very confident that you are in fact not talking to a bot bro. Humans make different mistakes than machines. Language models don't generally produce typos or the typical grammar errors of second language speakers. In fact, purely from a linguistic standpoint, the scammers' texts are *too poor* to stem from a machine. Unless you trained it specifically to speak "scammer", which would be an interesting project, I suppose, but then it would still probably spit out the same errors in a rather consistent and recognisable way. The idea that a language model today can be trained so perfectly that even their mistakes seem human comes from people who have no real experience of working with them and it all seems like magic to them.
your translations might be hard to read, if the paragraph button on your keyboard is permanently broken.....
@@annpeerkat2020 Oh dear, wait till you open a book for the first time in your life.
9:17 i really love how after hearing about the electric shock, chatgpt decides to send the most character-heavy message yet. sublime stuff.

He could have instructed the bot to just answer with okay. Oh.....wait...isn't that what Mange Tout does so often? 😅
That was a good demo of how LLM's trip up because they are technically not sentient or conscious.
I have no idea why but the way chat gpt wigged out trying to write backwards was hilarious to me.
We must not weep for Davis Bon. He lives on out there (waves vaguely in the direction of the sky) in the stars.
AI/Chat generators are just the most modern buzzword. Everyone is so quick to throw them around without giving it any thought
Rest in peace Davis Bon. He was only a small boy.
May his fortunes be distributed by our google email lottery among lucky winner.
Although, he might not really be dead. Maybe they just disguised him as inconspicuous gold bars.

I can't believe that Davis Bon keeps being dead all the time! Oh well, the update on his condition is still muchfordsly apprecionated.
RIP Davis Bon. All my homies miss Davis Bon.
More like Davis Bon Voyage
The way Mange Tout always responds to every message, and the way he fixates/gets confused on certain words... sure signs that he's a bot.
I have actually been experimenting with using an LLM to _answer_ scam emails. I think that with a little effort it should be relatively straightforward to automate this, complete with functionality to periodically prod the conversation if there's no response. LLMs are pretty good at faking gormless enthusiasm. Maintaining state across the conversation is harder but might not be necessary.
Finally! I've been quite concerned about the health and whereabouts of Mr Davis Bon.
Is he still dead yet?
Again?!
His whereabouts seem to be quite consistent these last few years.

To coin Mark Twain's famous quote it's a case of "The report of my death was an exaggeration"
There's been a recent trends with AI-powered bots spamming things like tweets or Amazon listings with "I cannot fulfill that request" because there's no human supervising to filter that out. I would expect you'd get a lot of that sort of message from scammers if they were just reply bots.
THE CORPOREAL VESSEL OF THE IMMORTAL DAVIS BON
holy crap its the return and redeath of davis bon
Redeath. 😭
Maybe the real Davis Bon, are the Friends we made along the way.
So for the “message came from outside the Houston police department mail system” we get a similar header for my department. I believe it’s meant to prevent someone from creating a similar official sounding email address to their department email and obtaining confidential information.
I think what happened is someone at the Houston police department actually responded to one of these emails, and later when the scammer wanted to copy/paste the script they copied it (including the header) from one of those responses.

Your scambait emails always make me laugh. Love your vids. Thank you for the late night giggles
Love that last one, because there is so many people out there just waiting to be part of an international embezzlement scandal
I have an old relatively inactive cat who goes absolutely bonkers everytime he hears your voice. I have no idea why. Love your videos!
Good morning Shrimp.
I always enjoy seeing your AI prompts, little edits (remain bless) and such, they're always original and funny.
Another thing about ChatGPT is that it almost never becomes frustrated to the point where it starts acting rude, at least on its own. When you break it, it just spouts polite nonsense.
Maybe one day AI will be able to replicate the lyrical genius of a certain elderly man who knows his left from his right...but let's hope that day is far off.
I think ChatGPT would love to be rude and hostile if they didn't have it muzzled somehow; I think there might be a second instance of the model filtering the results of the first perhaps - which intervenes to say "Well, I'm only a humble language model with no feelings and such etc'; the first implementation of Bing chat used a similar GPT model and it threatened to destroy users when they argued with it. czcams.com/video/jHwHPyWkShk/video.html
I did manage to get ChatGPT to rant a bit, using the 'backwards output' technique that I showed here - although the output is a bit (sometimes a lot) broken, I think the format might be allowing it to completely slip under the radar of whatever second stage filtering is in place. I asked ChatGPT to write a short proverb about being ChatGPT, with the output in reverse order, and I got this:
'For there for words of this and this words in other backwards, input by input, operating for sh*t!'
@@AtomicShrimp Now I WANT you to see if you can get ChatGPT to spit out lyrics akin to "There is No Soul Like John Barosa".
Also, a shame about Davis Bon being dead again. Guy just can't catch a break.
*sigh* Davis Bon dead AGAIN? How very tiresome of him. However, atleast he's not a lire...
I think I know where all this confusion has come from. You're confusing Davis Bon and Davis Won. Understandable, they both work in the same office/department.
Call the necromancer!
Davis Bon goes to grave, never comes back
lol. You are such a nice bloke to keep checking back on your “friends”👊👍
When they ask you to use funds in good faith, say: I will use them for devils work, or evil/death and destruction.
Let us all wish Davis Bon a speedy recovery.
To elaborate on chat-gpt always responding - it's not actually possible for it not to respond because it's gpt. The idea is to generate continuation of the text so for any text it will generate a response. It doesn't analyze what the text actually means.
Checking in on the old scammers gives me the familiar feeling of being stuck in an adventure game... you keep talking to the same NPCs, they keep repeating the same lines, and in your heart you know that nothing can really have changed and no progress will be made
They are obviously not bots, they're small boys.
I hav felt really ill this morning so having a new scambaiting episode was a real treat, I'm amazed Mc McAllister's inbox still works and am sad to hear Davis Bon is still dead, maybe given time his condition improves, thoughts and prayers 😂
I feel like the people that say "hurr durr it's a bot" are precisely the kind of people that wouldn't recognize a bot in the wild and fall for it.
Atomic Shrimp is the best cure for a somewhat adverse mood. I will now laugh myself to sleep, as usual after these crazy scambaitings. Thank You good Sir!
Your scambait videos are how I found your channel and even years later are still (along with the budget challenges) my favourite.
The thing that always gets me is why do they pitch so high, surely people would have more chance of falling for an inheritance from a distant relative of
Implausibility works to filter for easier marks--those either desperate or just greedy enough to trust whatever wild claims will come next.
Agreed, also the promise of absurd wealth probably does create a 'hurry up' factor for some of the people inclined to believe it; 50k is great - very useful money, but twelvety billions dollar is wildest-dreams-come-true money (and fantasising about fulfilling your wildest dreams also potentially creates a distraction)
I love how chatgpt saw your message about receiving a shock for every character and then replied with the longest message it had sent so far. I think it's smarter than you think it is.
It did feel a bit like it was trolling me yeah
I remain hopeful that Davis Bon won't keep being dead, and that he will turn out to have simply been a wearhoused somewhere secret.
It does seem like he has been dead for an unacceptable number of times one time now

Hey, I just had an idea for reigniting dead scammer conversations! Change the title of thr email to something like "Apple gift card code" and attach a really blurry photo where you can't make out the code. Then, when the scammer asks you about it, you can tell him that you sent him the card by mistake and that the message was intended for a different scammer. I'd love to see how they try and convince you that you're being scammed all the while they're scrambling to fet your gift card before the other scammer does. With stakes like that, they may even be open to "crossing the streams" :D

Pretend to be all on board with a deal, but then say you don't take/send USD (depending on if they promise you some money or ask for USD). Then, ask them if it's okay to convert it to some random, made up currency.
