Guys I love how much you genuinely love Moxfield. That said my one big complaint as a user with 39 active decks I really wish the “your decks” section had wayyyyyyy more options. From being able to change the view to being able to easily finding out what decks in the color identity don’t have a certain card.
You can put them in folders
Oooh that's a good suggestion. I think they have a discord, you should hit them up there.
FWIW I've used folders to organize my decks but obviously that's less flexible.
I would like a scan option, so I can just scan each card and it goes in the deck.😮😮😮
Moxfield has a discord and takes suggestion very serious!
I have almost 600 decks on mocksfield and I organize them by color first, then name. It makes things easy to find 🙂
The tip about mulligans is excellent. I have watched so many "This is how to get better at Commander" videos and not a single one of them has talked about mulligans. Very well put, nerds.

Also, this may be secret tech, idk, but if anyone has a mono-blue or mostly blue deck with a lot of crucial utility lands (Field of the Dead, Demolition Field, Scavenger Grounds, Mystic Sanctuary, etc) I really like Tolaria West as a nice little tutor to fetch up an important utility land when I need it.
Great advice on being mindful of win-cons. With these things in mind, I was able to increase the focus of multiple decks that were good engines but struggled to be lethal.
I saw just JC in the thumbnail and I was genuinely worried Beezy wasn't feeling well again. Then I started the video and saw both of you sitting there, what a relief! You guys are great and we all love you as much as we can without making you uncomfortable!

The amount of people that deckbuild their EDH decks on TCGplayer cart is insane.
In my Greyfax deck, my mana base has Field of the Dead, because she likes having bodies in the field. The rest of the lands are mostly utility centered in interaction, Otawara, Eiganjo, Bojuka Bog, Wasteland. Tiny tools that can really work well in the right board state.
Off the top of my head, my Halvar, God of Battle deck has two themes. It’s Angels and Equipment, and they work really well together! 🎉 An angel with a sword and armor is scary with Halvar on the battlefield. I’ve also equipped Halvar and on-shotted people with commander damage.
I love writing down the cmc of my deck on paper, it's satisfying to see the work put in and I can outline it exactly as I need it, moxfield does smack though

On two color mana bases with skewed volor representation: check if you need the small color early or late. If you need it late your mana base needs to be more even than when you need the lesser color late.

Akroma's Will is probably the best card to end a game in a combat centric meta. Whenever I resolve it, it just wrecks someone. Another one I like is Winds of Abandon, exiling all creatures I don't control is devastating, and allows for a huge free swing.

I've been playing a lot of Galazeth Prismari and I'm gonna start putting clue support in more decks
more tips about mana bases: you need to evaluate it based on your commander. A 5 mana 2 color commander needs a lot less duals a lot less fast because you can ramp and fix with mana rocks or take the time to grab your other lands. In a deck like Ivy, you NEED a blue and green pip asap. So run heavy duals. Also if your golgari deck is running things like Necropotence or Circle of Dreams Druids, you have less room for utility lands and definitely should be running yavimaya and urborg.
Also take all the chances you can to fit in a few tapped MDFC or utility lands in your mono color decks!!
These are good tips. Nerds, from watching your videos, I started getting 75% wins in 4-pods reliably on a budget, now I really have to limit myself, but it's more fun that way.

I did that with a Precon: the Wyleth deck. I took out some unrelted spells, I added a tribe theme, so it became a Warriors deck, with some other things with the originl (auras and equipment). Now Wyleth is a powerfull draw engine, to search for warriors and other reinforcements; with Koll and other tokens generators like second reinforcement to avoid removals and sweepers. I was really lucky, I got a lot of cool cards from Kamigawa Neon Dinasty, the creature equipment, the tribal land and the Sword that collect key words.
that sounds good! a good example of how a precon can be Turned into a strong Deck with just some Booster Luck and one or two trades :) i tell the same to my friends who Start commander all the time. you dont need crazy Budget to have a good deck.

I use the MTG Unofficial app on my phone for quick and easy deck building on the go. It has a decent number of useful tools for a phone app. I can then copy and paste the list into Moxfield when im sitting at a computer.

Thanks for the advice as always. I tend to be combat centric since all but one of my decks is tribal. I need to look to see about using this advice for my Gishath deck. I already run two of your mentioned cards to get Gishath through. Never thought about alt win cons with Gishath but I'm definitely going to look into it.
Triumph of the hordes is the 1st things that comes to mind for me.

To be honest there aren’t a tonne of ways to win with Gishath other than to just smash face with Dinos. But yeah, you can at-least have a variety of overrun effects

What patron tier to possibly get your deck tuned up?
Funny they specified Muldrotha as being unfocused because my muldrotha deck is the same lmao. Has Aristocrats like plaguecrafter and braids, landfall like khalni heart expidition and gitrog, and mill like altar and out of the tombs. I tell myself it's fine since I can usually mill all the pieces of any of the strategies.
I definitely have my casual piles of cards to just scrap. But I also have decks that are
More focused (commander, pioneer, etc). But if I want to win I definitely want to take my focused decks lol
Of all these tips I think I am served best my scrutinizing my mana base
My deck probably needs some more win conditions tbh since currently I’m using a mishra meld which the meld itself is something that can win tmmr the game but if dragon engine gets exiled I’d need to then use vito and use as much as I can to get some more life to then have vito kill my opponents
Powering up your deck DURING gameplay is easy. You just need a fair sized stack of Cheatyfaces...

Edit: that last point is definitely the one I struggle with most. I feel like keeping a meh 7 card hand is better than going down to a 6 card hand a vast majority of the time.
I dont see a problem in calculating land average for the start in particular. If you have say 40 lands you should get to 4 lands by your 3rd draw assuming a start with no mulligns

I am not a fan of Combo decks by my Alesha, who smiles at death deck; having the multiple blood artist effects and multiple ways to do card advantage (Card draw or recursion from the graveyard) has made it a very strong deck. When I made it mardu, it wasn't optimized but having the help from someone has highly tuned the deck to a strong deck along with my Karlov of the Ghost Council deck.
So it's critical mass then yeah? People sometimes get confused with combo and critical mass out there.
@@keiharris332 I never heard the term Critical Mass for Commander TBH. I am not confused about the 2, it is just I never heard the term in regards to Alesha.

I thought my deck was combo for a while but my oloro deck uses heal boosters and vizkopa guildmage/sanguine bond/vito/defiant blood lord to kill the board. It sounds like a combo but since like you, we need multiple of the same effect, it is critical mass. Very neat
3:12 for an Edgar deck..what would be your recommendation?
Im already running Malakir Bloodwitch, Blood Artist, Sanctum Seeker and Purphoros and Impact Tremors for extra reach..What else should I include?

The tokens technically go to the graveyard so that + sac outlet and you can easily kill a player if you have some tokens in play or creatures

Any thoughts on Vicious Shadows ? I love this card anytime I play it. Even if it's not regularly as I don't often play red. I had it on my Edgar deck when I had one and now it's on a mono red goblin deck
@@adriendelplace8755 the effect is something the deck is interested in but I think it costs too much, 6 mana is sometimes a stretch for the deck 7 is even worse

...not gonna lie, Moxfield sounds like it would be great except for the fact that I love doing the math n i only have internet on my phone n only 20g/month so I prefer to tether my PC off my phone when a new set drops n download the updated cardlist for Cockatrice. N I'll test it as much as possible on there until i need to test it's reactions n interactions, n since i don't have many friends who still play i rarely make control decks anymore unless it is a rison combo deck

I CAN calculate how many lands on average will be in my opening hand in less than 5 minutes. Granted that's because I already built a spreadsheet that can make that calculation...

I'm lucky I have a playgroup that allows infinite free muligans, we just play by the rule that if you can play it, keep it, and have an honour system to not just go for broke and infinitely Mulligan
We come to play after all, not sit and watch others because we had to mul to 5 or 4
I don't agree that if your play group allows infinites then they should allow tutors.

You guys crack me up sometimes. 100/the amount of lands that you have is the avg. number of lands in your opening hand. That’s nothing super complicated.
So if I have 100 lands, I draw an average of 1 land per hand? I don’t think so
@@WillyBay ha. I totally have that wrong. So 100/the number of lands that you have is the percentage that each card you draw will be a land. From there you can correlate what your actual land average per starting hand is.
@@justynwclark just # of land/100 is the chance each card will be a land. For example 40 lands give each card a .4 chance of being a land. From there, .4 * 7 is a good approximation but doesn’t take into account thinning, eg: you’re first 6 cards are lands so the last one now has 34/94 odds

Big time. I bought the Anhelo, the Painter precon edh deck. I played it several times and found myself thinking "how am I supposed to win with this?". I sent the decklist to a friend of mine and he said the exact same thing, "how are you supposed to win with that pile?".
I once wanted to make a card advantage deck. And yeah, every spell gives you at least +2 advantage per play, but it deals 0 damage lol whoops
@@thekwjiboo I had a similar issue with Anhelo. I've tried to solve it by going into zombie tribal for the 2/2 tokens and by running big x-damage spells like Jaya's Immolating Inferno.
In our grp we started a spezial mullian rule, everyone draws 10 and puts 3 cards below their liberies. Everyone loves it and mulligans hardly happen anymore
Why would you do this instead of building your deck better or mulliganing more aggressively
@@B1gBingus its fun, every grp i know, that tried it loved it, the pre select provides everyone with a good early and mid game. In high power decks its ether extremly powerful or just not relavent, but anyway balanced out by Rule 0

My new Gix deck has 2 plans, but they synergise with each other it's half politics and half theft. I politic so my opponents are beating each other up with their stuff then late game I steal them all and kill

I complain about tutors! Keep that deck nice and random.
Unfortunately not being able to fit multiple themes into decks because it's not competitive is horrible. It really limits the format to, oh that's what your decks theme is cool it'll be the same thing every time. I can't wait to lose to the same 3 cards every week. Oh wait, you tutored the other thing that's basically exactly the same instead.
