I'm an African American female that's been in business 5yrs. Before i had my business, i worked for a Jewish family in the textile industry. It was hard work but paid decent and they gave me a line of credit on materials to start my business without charging me interest.

In Judaism a minimum of 10 men are required to say the important prayers. That is why a new synagogue should have 10 members in order to begin. They weren't 10 wealthy businessmen. They were peddlers, shoe repairmen, ditch diggers and wagon drivers who prayed in each others homes. Why did the children and grandkids of these poor men become doctors and lawyers? Because the steel mills and factories wouldn't employ Jews. Medical and legal schools had a quota to limit the number of Jewish students. Hotels wouldn't admit Jews so the hotels in the Catskills were created. The principle of trusting God to provide is Jewish in origin; but also working hard on your own part is required. Jews are also the group which gives the most to charity in the USA, including non-Jewish charities. The Old Testament (Torah) is the same Bible Christians have, there are no secrets.

We dont have the "Old Testament". We have Torah.
Our Torah dwarfs the simple Xitan bible and while it stays the same it is modernised and reinterpreted
The Xitan bible is so simple as the reward in the nect world is childish
We live in this life. Try our best in this life. Try and be good and decent in this life not looking for reward
      That is our secret

Also for centuries Jews were prevented from owning land in Europe. This meant that they had higher free cash flows and were actually more able to invest in promising businesses. The rules against them were racist and morally wrong but did actually end up helping them, at least in terms of financial worth.

In Jewish communities parents support their children financially to start businesses or they leave their businesses to their families. They also help their children financially with college. In Gentile culture the parents just buy stuff for themselves and they leave the children no inheritance. You have to build for your blood.

With all due respect to the priest here, he's looking at the EFFECT not the cause. When I was in high school 1/4 was black, 1/4 hispanic 1/4 jewish 1/4 other. I took AP Calculus: 3/4 of the class was Jewish! Not 1 black. Not 1 hispanic. That's again looking at the effect, not the cause.
Here's the CAUSE: I run a property management company and I often need to enter homes as part of my work. This is what I observe: most non-Jewish kids watch TV when I enter their home. When I look at their library of books, they are all about entertainment: Harry Potter, Mickey Mouse : books about nothing more than killing time.
When I enter Jewish homes, I see that most Jewish kids read. When I see what they read it blows my mind. An 11 year old boy reads rules of lost object: what obligation does have a finder have if the item found is lost? How long does a property owner have to redeem his property if foreclosed.
Jews are rich simply because from the moment they can speak they learn rules and regulations. When they can read they read rules and regulations. When they grow up they formulate rules and regulations.

The impression is given that the entire emphasis in Judaism is on educating children to run a business. For centuries most Jews studied Torah, Talmud and other religious texts. Many still do. There is an emphasis on ethics. There is an emphasis on scholarship. Twenty-five percent of billionaires may be Jewish but so are a similar percentage of Nobel laureates. Also, ignoring scholarship, science and reason and endorsing faith without evidence renders people susceptible to those who would take advantage of them. I am glad to hear the pastor admit he has learned from Jews. Perhaps there is more he could learn.

I’m Jewish and I’ve got to say this pastor makes very big over generalizations about what Jews do and how they live.
If you want my inside view as a religious Jew why many Jews do well here it is:
Jews are ridiculously philanthropic. And I mean ridiculously. Jews give a lot of money to charity. There are fundraising drives almost daily and even Jews who don’t have money give generously. I have a friend who has eight children and lives on a 4th floor three bedroom apartment with no elevator. He doesn’t make a good living. But he is one of the most generous people you will meet.
And I believe that charity is G-d’s vessel for success.

By introducing hate speech you condemn yourself and not the Jews. I have no inclination to engage in insult, so this will probably be my last comment. First, let me say that many nations and peoples have contributed mightily to the world. The gifts of the ancient Greeks are obvious. So many things were invented in China. Germans contributed vastly to classical music and the contribution of African-Americans to American music are staggering. I could go on in on. But let me list a few of the contributions of Jews and Judaism. For every item mentioned thousands could be added of a similar nature. The Jews have given us, the polio shot, the day off (Shabbat), the Ten Commandments, the opera Carmen, the Theory of Relativity, Psychoanaysis, and the notion that we are supposed to love our neighbor as ourselves.
The persecution of Jews is one of the greatest stains on humanity. And if we accept the notion that a religion is to be judged by it's deeds, the sytematic persecution of Jews by Christians should render Christians humble in their dealings with Jews. The exercise of hate by the practioners of a faith, is a refutation of that faith.

There is no way everybody can start a business. Look at the statistics to find out how many new businesses fail every day. Although there is plenty of demand of products and services and there is plenty of supply of them, there is too much supply of work, which is the crux of the problem. The business community takes advantage of this and many of them prosper. But many just barely make even. So suggesting diligence, changing the mind set, start a business to get away from the boss and keep all the money is a pie in the sky. To say go to college and get a good job is nonsense also. There are not enough jobs to accommodate all the graduates, many a graduate is unemployed or underemployed. When Bernie Sanders says that he would pay the tuition of every student who goes to college he is delusional. Anyway, why would you have to go to college to get a good job?
Why not encourage youngsters to go to a vocational school to become a master builder, electrician, plumber, machinist, auto mechanic, nurse, painter, brick layer, computer technician, appliance repairman, landscaper, gardener, farmer, etc.? Because it's dirty, hard, dangerous and don't pay well. All the money go to the business owner and he pays the minimum, enough to retain his workers. Isn't something wrong with this picture?
Why is it that people don't like hard, dirty, dangerous and monotonous, low paying jobs? Because they are hard, dirty, dangerous, monotonous and low paying. So how to solve the problem? Give those jobs respect, good pay and job security, mitigate the negative aspects! Who would do that? Well, humanists, Jesus and God and his true followers.

You appear to express the usual entitlement mentality so popular these days - blame others & 'fix' the system by paying folks more without the corresponding (& essential) productivity gains.
You mentioned working hard but you didn't mention living below your means in order to save & then invest in the businesses of others - I've done this & it works after years of slow but patient progress from working at least two low paid jobs, living below my means, investing in others' businesses, re-investing dividends & allowing the subsequent compounding effect to build wealth.
I'm far from perfect & I've made many mistakes but I've slowly learnt that the above aligns very well with the old virtues of life including forgiveness (of my mistakes) diligence, humility (to acknowledge & learn from mistakes), better self-control & a future perspective. I've learnt that MINDSET is essential from which I've tried to improve my clarity of purpose to plan a future which has enabled me to find motivation to keep going through hard times. I've had to re-learn all of this many times despite the good fortune of having good guidance from others - I'm proof that most of us can build a future - my best friend has had fewer opportunities than me due to having learning difficulties & being abandoned as a child but he's done much better than me.
An even better example of the above may be Mr Earl CRAWLEY - my hero.

Entitlement mentality? You mean socialism for the rich, capitalism for the poor? When big business is failing, they cry for government bailouts and they get it without fail and the multitudes are losing their tax dollars!
I also don't believe that Earl Crawley is your hero. If you believe that you have to "save" for 44 years to "amass" half a million dollars you are brain dead. You are also trying to divert attention from the problems of this country, a blind service to the rich and the ruling elite!

One thing I've noticed about Jews is a positive mind set. When a Jew is poor he doesn't complain. He doesn't look down, he looks up. It's all about working hard, perseverance, a little faith and keep your eyes open for opportunity. Dont get caught up in all the bad things in this world. Do what good you can that's all you can control.

      @emjhendrickson8290 Před 5 lety +12

True but what was Jesus really talking about? context is key when quoting Jesus. Matthew 6 (which is the chapter you are quoting), Jesus says multiple times "you will not be noticed by men." He says this right before laying treasures in heaven instead of earth. He is addressing 3 attitudes here- showing off, saving for hard days and focusing on eternal worth. Money is a tool. Just like any other tool, it can be used for good, bad and everything else. It is the love of money that God condemns, not the use of it. When he said "sell what you have and give to the poor," he was speaking to a specific individual, a wealthy man. This wealthy man had done a lot of good deeds and asked Jesus what else he had to do to go to heaven. Jesus was not addressing that man's wealth, Jesus was addressing his heart. Jesus also responded to his disciple who said why can't she sell her valuable balms and give her prophet to the poor and Jesus responded that the poor will always be with you (and indirectly saying that the lady was right to FIRST worship Jesus before thinking about the well being of others). Jesus himself said that his commandment was first to love God then love others. So the question is what is His will for me? How can I worship Him? How does he want me to worship Him? Money can't buy happiness but it definitely resolves most of the average person's problems. Hunger, shelter, education, travel, health, even giving to charities. Imagine what it would be like to give 100K or even 1 million to a good charity? How much of a difference that would make, compared to 10 bucks. Also wealthy people have a lot more free time- time to worship, to serve, to give. Also in America more than %50 of divorces happen because of money struggles. Not to mention suicides due to poverty and debt. I know that I will not raise my children in poverty. I have seen the devastation of children because their christian parents were desperate for money, time, and energy. Jesus very clearly points out how special children are. God has called many people to wealth. Many of our old testament figures like Joseph, David, Solomon and and most of their forefathers were wealthy. God blessed them with wealth. God must have felt they were worthy of these earthly treasures. And what do you think they did with those riches?

    • @ee528

How will we spread the gospel and help the needy then? Not to talk of our families. A Christian child needs to go to university but the state has to pay for his education cause his parents can’t afford it. And then he needs to live in rented accommodation cause his parent can’t afford to buy him a place. Not all children can earn a scholarship and work to buy a flat before 20.

I didn't read every comment so others may have touched on this. First I think you may be wrong in saying that the most religious Jews are the most wealthy. If the ultra orthodox Jews in Israel are a measure, they are not very wealthy and need to rely on the state programs to survive. Also some people are very talented with numbers and ambition and many Jewish people have this talent and Chutzpa. My point is that there may be many factors at work in this concept. And one major factor that has helped shape them is that when you are a minority and shut out of normal jobs, you are forced to start your own business to make money. If you are an observant Jew, you observe Sabbath and holy days which many companies will not recognize because you would have to not work from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset, thus you're shut out just because of that. Then after many centuries of this of course you have people who have been forced to pursue businesses and many are prosperous and it's more of a way of life.

Jewish communities from the begging of their exiles were forced to travel and migrate and they always established small prayers houses in their house (of some person) and then later really built some Synagoge, all had to participate poor or rich to built synagoge. The key and secret of Jewish successful is charity, helping each other and supporting community with 1 $ or with 1000$ - each and everyone how much can permit
You misunderstood maybe 10 person as Judaism requires 10 adult man (starting from 13 years old) to have public service of prayer and say some important prayers or reading Torah. But there were no importance of poor or rich ...

In addition to the comment I made below, I wanted to add one important thing. Paul says not many wise men now are called or noble. I paraphrase: he has called the weak of the world. But with God's blessing and help they should be able to confound the wise and cause Jewish people to be jealous because of their great love and works and blessing and intimate relationship with God. Jesus came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. He can make you a strong and blessed person full of love for other people that is truly rich beyond compare. Jesus said ask and you shall receive that your joy may be full. But I think many Christian preachers are always trying to say why this isn't happening for somebody. Jesus meant what he says: he loves us so much. Remember God made Abraham rich. If that weren't true God wouldn't have written it. There had to be a reason: so we would know and trust him.

Jesus is my sabbath. I have rested from any and all salvific labors. I rest in His complete sacrifice. Christians who know Jesus read the whole Bible, which is why REAL Christians DO build wealth (not to mention every good thing in society like universities, hospitals, etc.). Real Christians were known for learning Hebrew and Greek to study the whole council of God.
It is my opinion that a real Christian has a better foundation to build wealth on than any Hebrew with only the Old Testament. Contrary to common thought, it is my opinion that a Christian is proactively commanded to build vast wealth.
If a command to observe Sabbath existed prior to Moses, that is irrelevant. The New Testament makes it clear that there is no such thing as a law that can bring righteousness. It says if any ever could, it would have been the Law of Moses, but the fact that no law could was the point. We are either under law, or we are under grace.
We are either subject to law, or we are saved. I am not subject to any law other than the law of love, or the perfect law of liberty. But, you sound like a fervent Galatian, so, I am sure my words fell on deaf eyes.

So many generalisations and inaccuracies, and I'm only up to 12 mins. When the Jews reached America they were fleeing persecution in Eastern Europe and were dirt poor. They desperately wanted jobs, but the gentiles forced them to work on the Sabbath, if you don't work on Saturday, don't come back on Monday was the constant refrain, so they were forced to start businesses, ie very small scale operations just to eke out a living.
The average Jew doesn't drink, or barely, the average gentile drinks a lot and wastes money on other such trivialities. Jews are the people of the book, not just rote learning, but dialectical thinking. We are encouraged to ask questions. Call it thinking outside the box. This is probably not so true of your religion.
One of hte biggest indicators of future wealth is self-control, aka the marshmallow experiment. If you knew anything about Judaism you would know that it is a lifelong practice of restraint. and therein lies one of the big keys.
I"m now at @15 min, and you say that Jews only build a synagogue when there are ten businessmen. This is patently false and has no bearing on reality. Jewish men are required to pray as a group of ten, regardless of their occupation, and the highest ideal in Judaism is to be a scholar not a businessman. And scholars are the people that we show honour to.
Honestly I think that you are a bit obsessed, you only seem to see generalities, and even then they are not even grounded in reality. There are many, many wealthy gentiles, but that doesn't bother anyone. It only bothers you because you otherise the Jews.

Elisheva, you've clearly been offended by this pastors general comments concerning attaining and cultivating wealth, based on Judaism ( I myself am a proud Jew and business owner).
But the point he was trying to make was the correlation between the "on average" success of our people compared to Gentiles and to expound albeit "simple" principals for his church ( I assume) to adhere to. I don't see any problem in him using our people/faith as an example of how to move forward in life ie. business, wealth, adhering to G _d's law.
Conversely, I commend him for educating his people on bettering themselves and hopefully turn around an ethos of lazy ineffective people for a healthier future. Jew or Gentile, we are all here on Earth and need to move forward together and if it means using some inspiration or guidance from our way of life in order to move forward, so be it.
As the knowledgeable rabbi J.Sacks says " We are worth what we are willing to share with others". We should be willing to share with all people our beautiful culture and blessing G_d has given us.
The Talmud and Torah teach this too ; to help those less fortunate and build up our society for the betterment of all men and women.
      Shalom

cute. but not even close. you want to think like us Jewish people.
    1) Faith...we believe i one indefinable G-d, the creator. Follow G-d's law, you will be blessed. despite what you are taught even in the next world.
with Faith leads to the fortitude. the courage to say good times come bad times come. be prepared for both.
    2) charity, an absolute forgiving intent of charity. we call it Hesed. help anyone, anytime because its your duty as a human being to preserve life.
charity is good PR. My grandfather ran a grocery store during the depression when thursday he always gave out potatoes free to all who needed it. he was able to open 3 other stores.
when someone could not afford their groceries he asked what they could give. and never asked it back. when he died the bishop came to his funeral, claiming that his diocese was sustained by my grandfather.
when you see a homeless person never scorn, never doubt their need. even if you know the money will used for bad reasons. its better to give him money for drugs than to let him violently the next person for drugs.
    3) family. family is the most important earthly principal. family should sustain you. family should encourage you no matter your dreams.
Dont rent to your children, have them work around house. but let them to financially grow. let them grow intellectually.
we take care of our young and our old. parents should be in peace in their older years, sustained by their matured and successful children.
    5) be smart. 68% of all nobel prize winners are jews. jews know mathematics they know the numbers of a good deal. be smart, be educated. parents need to invest in that education. more than the motorboat, or new car.
    6) be kind, humble, and just. dont make people jealous. you dont need things or toys. no matter how high you rise. there is something always above you. hence the reason we cover our heads to the respect of G-d.
    7) not only about what you know. its about who you know.
this guy knows nothing about us Jews. he made a ton of mistakes.
or why does G-d bless us Jews. Heres Imagine there is a Great and Just king. he protects, he serves his people.
now imagine the great king has a son. the prince is kind, generous, and he makes promises to his people. in which his people love him.
they begin to love him more than the father, the king. they call out for the prince and his promises.
but they forget its the king with all the power.
We Jews believe still in G-d of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob. the creator of all existence. and the master of the world to come. we accept G-ds plans no matter our individual outcome. therefore we are blessed.

Why do you own all the central banks? Why can’t a country run their own bank that caters to the interest of their own people? Much like Israel does
