  • Anti-Semitism is on the rise in France and the country's Jews feel increasingly threatened. After attacks on Jewish institutions and Jewish life, many feel abandoned by the state. A retired Jewish policeman wants to change that.
Anti-Semitic crimes in France are on the rise. The French government says the number of anti-Semitic attacks rose by almost 70 percent in the first nine months of 2018. But Samy Ghozlan, known in France as the Kosher Cop, is no longer prepared to stand idly by and watch. The former policeman is himself Jewish and has been attacked several times. A few years ago, he emigrated to Israel out of fear for his family. But the fight against anti-Semitism in his homeland constantly draws him back to Paris, where he has set up an organization to identify and counter anti-Semitism as well as help the victims when no one else will. Like Stella, for example: after being attacked in her apartment and having her car smeared with Stars of David, she fled her home on the outskirts of Paris and moved to another part of the city. Ghozlan, who knows many Jews who are leaving the suburbs because they no longer feel safe there, talks about a "new anti-Semitism.” In the past, the perpetrators were mainly right-wing extremists, but today many attacks are carried out by Muslims. But Ghozlan also has the support of his friend Hassen Chalghoumi, a Paris Imam who speaks openly about anti-Semitism among French Muslims. Together, the two are confronting anti-Semitic prejudice and fighting for peaceful coexistence.

As an Arab Muslim from the very bosom of Arabia. Let me tell you that saying anything rendered as positive about Jews, is not going to make me the most popular person around the dinner table. Especially when stating facts that lead to dire consequences on the emotional scale, that can make people backlash and retaliate with so much gibberish hidden behind a facade of a pseudo argument of some sort.

People still think that Jews are just white people with a different belief. Even Winston Churchill - in the Sunday Herald February 8th, 1920 - said that "The Russian Empire has been grabbed by the hair of their head by these - for the most part - ATHEISTIC JEWS." Indeed, the politburo and GULAG concentration camps which killed millions of non Jews were administered by 80-90% atheistic Jews, while the civilian population of Russia was 98% non Jewish. It's things like this, as well as the fact that they are forbidden from discussion and avoided all together in academia, that are the real cause of anti-semitism. If they want anti-semitism to stop, they need to clean up their act and come clean with their historical record as well as their leading record of violating international law to the present day. God's Chosen People, aren't just a religion. They are a distinct and privileged ethnic group with their own interests.

Very disturbing and sad knowing those kind of thougts are increasing in France..
By the way, I apologise for my english, I do my best, but, it is not my mother tongue.
Moreover, it should not matter, but I specify I'm not a jew, actually being a japanese, so I am buddist and shintoist, so syncretist.
But being born and raised in europe, in a French speaking part of Switerland, very similar to France , I see some parrallel with our current situation.
My feeling is that, antisemitism is rising in europe (at least in the french speaking areas), as showed in this documentary, but also racism and extremism of all kind.
Unfortunatly, I am a witness of those kind of things daily and sometimes I feel hopeless to fight it back.
I even have the impression those opinions are being normalised, especially among young people, such as me.
Regarding anti semitism, I think it is linked to anti-zionism and Palestine.
Indeed a lot of people fail to see that those are totally different problems : we can criticize a gouvernment, which I do (so many unfairness towards the Palestinians) but hatred towards an entire community / people, is a terrible error in judgment.
Or should I said, it is a a shortcut, too often taken, by those who can't complexity in life, and fall prey to an ideology.
Scary to realise nowadays some are perpetuating thousands years old prejudices, especially knowing where that had lead us.
I can recall the first time I heard about the holocaust, I was very young and it was through the story of Anne Franck.
I remember being taken aback and unable to comprehend how such thing couId have happened and asking my mother: why why ? why ? and how ?
Her showing me some pictures of the concentration camps was horrible and I remember I avoided to play near the part of our library I knew this book remained.
As a child and not knowing about context, it was for my young mind insane.
And I think it should remain this way, something crazy.
However studynig history seems to me so important, taught in the right way it shows you so much about human species, diversities, complexity: ultimately you realise we are neither white nor black but all the color combination of the rainbow, heroes are for the movies.
Think about it, did japaneses, deserve atomic bomb ? Did they deserve to endure the side effects years later, especially children with cancer?
Did a german woman deserve to be rape ? Why do a youth of the hitlerjunge who protected Berlin can't be considered as a victim of the war, brainwashed etc..
Did french women who were either way a lover, a prostitute or force to have a relation with a german soldier, deserve to be ''tondu''
And did any child deserve to experience an air raid etc..
It is something I personally struggle, as a descendant of japanese, from my mother, and a french ''pied'-noir'' or ''black feet'' a derogatory term to call the french from Algeria during the time the French ruled this country, I'm either way the ''vilain'' .
I came to the conclusion, that facts are facts, there are real, harsh, but there are here, so no need to try to deny them (and god know how I would like to..), we can only acknowledge them, remember but above all we have to understand the mechanism that has lead to an horrible outcome in order to not repeat it.
I think the way we teach it today, with a lack of honesty, is perhaps another reason why a lot of people fail to see similarities between the rising right-extremism today and nazism.
Somehow, there are people who are able to see the human being above all leaving aside everthing else, and i strongly believe it is what we should do, the world would be a better place for all of us.

Okay this been bugging me for quite some time now. Being new in this truth I have come to some revelations. But whenever I ask I only get condemned for it. Or when I get answers I go back to the bible and it doesn't add up. Okay reading Deuteronomy 28:15-68 how does the curses cover these people. As a matter of fact, how does any white nation fit that description. It say the Jews are hated by the whole world. Come on we all know their is only one people that fit that description. It also say that they do not know who they are or have any identity. We still debating til this day who we really are. Enslaved on ships. Fill up the prison houses. Still that same people. This all in the bible about God's chosen people. Then the prophets(Jeremiah, Solomon) plainly say they are black. The description of Christ in Revelations. Well still black. Whenever I get feedback it gets very confusion and/or nasty. And we know God said himself he is not the author of confusion. So can someone please answer these questions with scriptures. No commentaries or opinions needed. Your brother in Christ.

Anti-Semitism in France was identified with the Vichy government during the Nazi occupation and then in the south of France, where many Algerians settled after the dismantlement of the colony and the Pieds Noirs etc. felt displaced -- there was a backlash and the rise of LePen and his daughter which I really didn't think would garner so much sympathy; this of course is not specifically Anti-Semitism but Xenophobia, which is probably the one thing that makes me sad about French culture; have lived in France for 2 decades and on and off before that. Same with Muslim population; integration is the key and enforced in schools and government levels. I think it's important to observe that far right groups in advanced countries, Scandanavia, Northern Italy, Austria is notorious, is on the rise due to the migration of people due to wars, drought etc. happening in the middle east, Africa etc. , so I don't want to single out France but as a jew I have always been circumspect about my heritage living in Strasbourg and Paris, both sophisticated metropoli which should not be necessary; yes it is. So I am glad for this expose and have recommended it to all my friends. I am not a friend of extreme Zionists in the State of Israel occupying the West Bank and causing constant pretexts for military conflict with Palestinians, nor their covert --- or overt alliance with the Bush Administration in its meddling with the Middle East. I don't know why this phenomenon of Anti-Semitism is so pronounced in France; it makes me terribly sad and it's very real. There remains an undercurrent in the US; right wing politicians think there is some kind of Jewish conspiracy based in New York, where else, undermining American values of God, the right to bear arms and the profound belief that they have a monopoly on self-righteousness; if Trump did anyone a favour it is that his regime has dismantled the world's perception of the US as the pre-eminent world power. But I mourn a culture in France stained by this attitude, still don't get it, and only by people speaking out will it be exposed and perhaps changed by shaming people who have no basis for this attitude. Thank you for this expose.
