  • Hey its Zach from 718motorpool, And today were going to be talking about the Federal signal twinsonic. If youve ever seen any seen any movie or tv show made or set in the the 70s or early 80s. You've seen one of these lightbars before. Being pretty much the default lightbar of the 70s as well as appearing in the coutless of movies and tv shows this lightbar has become subtly ingrained in 70s culture. I guarntee if you think of a police car, fire truck or ambulance from the 70s its going to have a twinsonic on it

Very knowledgeable and you are right on point with the Arizona color change. AZDPS changed from cars issued with red and amber lights in 1983 to red and blue lights in 1984.

Glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for narrowing down the year. Did local agencies hold on to Red and Amber after 84?

@@The718Motorpool Most of the smaller agencies had already moved to red and blue by then. Phoenix PD and Pima County SO had also run red and amber and changed to red and blue at some point in the mid 80s. Tucson PD just used red I believe until the late 80 when they added some blue.

The lightbar was so bulky the CHP lost 2MPG . 00:44 As you can see Federal messed up by not putting any lamp between the speaker and rear passenger side. They could have used the 50/50 mirrors here for best signaling in the rear.

San Diego hung onto those for years! Unfortunately, most of those probably got sold for scrap sometime during the mid to late 90s before they shot up in value.

The bar on Ecto 1 was actually a Code 3 XL. I have one and will be making a video on it in the future. Subscribe and keep an eye out for it!

What is that amber bar behind it? I remember frequently seeing those on tow trucks.
