I decided to start Borneo over from episode 1. Watching it now, I haven't seen it since 2000. 10 minutes and 35 seconds into episode 1 Richard says..."I'm good to go survival wise. People wise it'll be a little more challenging, but I've got the million dollar check written already, I mean I'm the winner". How cool and iconic is that 😂🥰
Pam B Richard Hatch is the ultimate pioneer of Survivor. CBS and Jeff Probst owe a lot to Richard Hatch because Survivor wouldn’t be where it is today without him. He’s one of the Founding Fathers of Survivor.
Anthony Mendez he isn’t one of the founding fathers, he IS the founding father
My wife and I were watching that first night and both said, "This guy isn't going to last long." lol
Then we watched him give a master class in the next few weeks. Great player.
I appreciate your experience and insight to the behind the scenes of Survivor life. Thank you for uploading.
I freaking LOVE looking at the production side of shows. It’s great that you’re sharing these tidbits with us. Thanks!
This is why I'm rooting for Tyson to win this season. He lets us in on all his scheming, his confessionals are legendary!
Wouldnt the constant camera guys give away a contestants position like when they are looking for idols and so on?
goutham edara I have always thought the same thing.
Please upvote this so someone answers it
There is an interview where Adam Klein said it's easy to tell who has an idol, as a contestant, if you pay attention. They'll start to follow someone for awhile out in the woods, and then stop following them and others out in the woods because there is no longer anything exciting to find or film. He said a camera person was following either Ben or Sarah, I cant remember, and then stopped following them and others, so it tipped him off to who had an idol.
Lol but that was the time when he was completely certain either Ben or Sarah had an idol but his speculations were wrong and Sophie had it 😂 So I doubt it’s that obvious
How do you feel about Danni Boatwright's strategy in Guatemala of intentionally not revealing any of her plans to the producers during confessionals?
Producers are human... so sharing honestly is a risk. I really shared honestly, because for me, I wanted viewers to have as full and honest a picture of how I was playing. Had I edited myself in those years before viewers understood the game, it is likely I would not be perceived to be such a villain.
@@RichHatch Did you like being perceived as a villain
Stop me f I have this wrong, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of the confessional?
Loving the daily content Rich, wish you were on 40!
Yes!!! 💯♥️
I’ll be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of you Rich, but you are so articulate when you speak and I could probably listen to you for hours. You could be a motivational speaker.
Sounds like you're a fan to me lol
John Palladino lol
Thanks Richard! Enjoying your videos very much. Love the shirt btw! :)
Im impressed by your incredible production value!!
I think holding your cards close to your chest can be beneficial in Survivor sometimes. Danni was very vague in her confessionals because she didn’t want Jeff to know what she was doing and then ask “questions” at tribal that are really just ways of letting other people know what you are thinking. So in that instance it really helped. Honesty would be nice as a viewer but I wouldn’t jeopardize my game just to be honest I’m confessionals
Thanks for the great content
I loved your season of survivor the most
Thanks for the videos
Awesome hearing about behind the scenes. Thanks!
I agree with you. I also see the other side of the story where players want to keep their plans secret, even from producers, in order to maximize their strategies
Thank you so much for these videos!! Love them!!! ♥️♥️
Thank you for explaining it.
i love these videos Richard thanks for putting them out i have watched Survivor since it first starded and i have never missed an episode and i even have a survivor inspired Tattoo
I really value the castaways who give funny, interesting, thoughtful, intriguing and entertaining confessionals.
Rich is the most in depth, philosophical survivor player I'd say. Few people understands the core and the premise of the game like him.
Season 40 didn't feel complete without the original survivor winner!
It's about time you started doing these videos. Love it.
I always curious about this. I used to think everyone is required to summarize their day on the next day everyday
How many people knew you before Survivor, 200, 500, 1000, 25,000 people? You now have a voice due to Survivor. Your a contestant on a Reality Game Show on TV. Now we have listen to your negative comments about the Game Show named “Survivor”. Didn’t you signed a contract? If you didn’t read the contract of being a contestant on a Game Show, that lasts “39” days. What gives you the right to complain about it. You signed a contract.! You knew what was
expected of you, and what the TV Game Show has to produce for you.
Because of Survivor, over a million viewers are looking at your negative comments on a Game Show that literally, gave you a voice. People know who you are NOW. A contestant complaining about your experience on a Game Show. Congratulations on you winning Million dollars.
Why not take your fame and do something positive? You are famous now. Are you aware of the children in USA, that live in shelters, cars, cardboard boxes, under overpasses, etc? These children are the kids that will in charge in the future.
One or many of these overlooked children, may hold the key to making the world that everyone has to share, better.
Cochran was also great with confessionals on his winning season.
Love your video and the shirt.
Most attractive, intelligent player in Survivor history, no question
Hatch….your my hero! Thanks for the tips….I’m trying to get on the show
I wonder how much the observation of who is being pulled into confessionals and how often or how seldom that occurs affects the perception of players. Somebody who is always being pulled into confessionals has a lot going on in their game, don't they? Whereas the player that is done with their confessionals quickly might seem like a non-threat. And if you are the player who isn't being asked a lot of questions, maybe you're a nonentity in the game. It also seems to me that 'getting the take' quickly is beneficial to a player, because that means you can extend your extra time away a little more.
Great points! I must say, though, producers do make some effort to ensure participants are relatively-equally pulled to confessionals. That said, producers are human, and an observant player certainly can gain valuable insights by paying close attention to what's going on. Further, for viewers, please know that it is also important for you to observe confessionals somewhat critically too. They are ostensibly opportunities for the participants to openly and honestly share all that is on their minds with viewers to help viewers enjoy even more of the game... HOWEVER, as I mentioned, producers are human, and sophisticated participants sometimes hold back or somewhat alter what they say in confessionals to avoid ANY tiny chance what they say could influence how producers react or how their next questions of other participants might be influenced. OH, THE LAYERS... THE MANY, MANY LAYERS of this wonderful game.
This was my question as well. I think to Richard's point, it probably behooves the producers to get as many confessionals as possible from as many players in order to create the storyline once filming has concluded, since anything can happen and anyone can win. That's why Richard's million dollar comment on day one of his season looks so prescient. Who knows if other players made the same statement?
I like this behind the scenes stuff- it'd be interesting to hear more about the actual logistics of the production and how that plays into the game. For example, is there any strategy in the transportation to the island? I've heard from recent players that they're all in the same plane, and some talk to each other and create pregames on the way there.
Ok that makes a lot of sense now 👍 it wasn’t that dean from s39 was left out of confessionals appearing on tv etc it’s because he was not involved in anything at those times of the game so no confessionals were made
I think everyone goes out for Confessionals but because Dean didn't really involved in that main storyline or plot , they didn't give him any
I've always felt this was a big issue with the game. Even in tribal council Jeff often times leads to conversation in particular directions that I think can sometimes reveal informatiom
Ya that bugs me. He'll bring something up that essentially throws someone under the bus and then everyone gangs up on them
You dont have to tell the truth
I’ve always wondered if the producers on Survivor gaslight the contestants in these interviews like the producers on Americas next top model did to the contestants on that show.
You said you’ll listen.... and I just wanna say loved ur Borneo season which I recently rewatched, and thanks for all the little things survivor nerds care about haha this is good stuff
Mr. Hatch. Curious Question: What are the reason(s) why they edit out camera/film crew & event staff on the weekly public shows? A prime example is during challenges. We see a camera person running alongside a participant, but then when they switch to another angle or drone shot looking down, we only see the participants & host Jeff Probst in motion, no one else. Respectfully Submitted & thank you Richard! I'm subscribed BTW.
they do that to make the show have more interesting shots and angles and they are probably filming the crews that test the challenges (from a different time or day) from those high angles so you don't have cameras being caught on camera from above.
@@michael.valenti a sincere thank you!.. for the reply of an answer to my question :)
Sat, 2/29/20 Exciting video of film crew:

thanks Hatch for confirming what i've been telling people in chat rooms LOL
You're doing a good job with your videos. I like them. Keep it up
AWESOME RICH! I LOVE UR YOU TUBE CHANNEL!! I JUST SUBSCRIBED! I JUST WATCHED SEASON 1 FOR THE 1ST TIME AND HAVE WATCHED THE 1ST 2 SSEASONS IN THE LAST 5 DAYS! SURVIVOR 1 IS AWESOME B/C OF U MAN! KEEP IT UP
from Australia and love the show, keep up the insights, we have purchased some 30 seasons on DVD and are on to the second time around. if you are in the area drop a line to catch up for a beer.
My man Hatch, here to give us the answers to all of life's mysteries. I appreciate the insight you've provided, and I hope you keep it coming, expose all of CBS's dirty little secrets lol
If you were is season 40. What would your game plan be with the new fire token?
This may sound corny, but you were the first. With that brings a certain honor that none of the other greats can claim. You, and Boston Rob are my two favorite players ever, and... my opinion, Boston Rob took a page from your playbook, which is not a meant to be a slight against Rob. You were the trailblazer, and STILL... one of my two favorite Survivors.
One thing that always stays in my mind and if u could answer it would be really cool. How far are the challenges and tribal councils from the camp? Do you go walking or there is some sort of transport! loved ur seasons! I bought VPN (since I am Brazilian) just to see u play 😆
Hey Rich, I know this has been brushed under the rug, but is there any way to elaborate on the Wigglesworth food scandal in season 1, and what happened with Stacey being 'rigged out' from your perspective?
If you got back on survivor, what result do you think you would get?
Hey Richard! I love these videos, and I love Survivor's older seasons. I was 3 when your season aired, but watched it as a teenager, not really understanding why you were perceived as such a villain. Everything you did just seemed rational, and the loyalty you demonstrated would've been perceived as damn-near heroic by today's standards. I kind of get it now (people thought it was "cheating" to make an alliance at the time, your personality rubbed some people the wrong way, etc. etc.), but did you expect America to perceive you that way coming out of Borneo? Did YOU perceive yourself as a villain the way so many others did? I'd love to know. Thanks!
soccerguy325 Great question! I’ll make a video to answer.
@@RichHatch Cool - thanks!
Do players have a sense of stronger competitors based off of how frequently they are or are not called for a confessional?
Every season, they usually throw us at least one 2-hour episode, in addition to the 3-4 finale. Wish they could all last that long. But someday.....I would really love to see a full special episode......on EVERYTHING behind-the-scenes. From the beginning of the audition process.....the crews that go out & set up the challenges....the logistics of getting everyone out to the island......questions about when & how the 'loved ones' are flown out. When players are voted out......are they sent to Ponderosa,,,,,but moved elsewhere once the jury members arrive.......and then the entire cast & crew all fly home at once?
Btw, I'm super disappointed that you are not on season 40! I watched your other video explaining what actually happened in season 8 between you and Sue. I haven't rewatched that season in years, but I have a vague recollection of Sue laughing and joking around about you being naked during the challenge. I never did understand how she went from joking around to being violated. I don't think her tribe understood it either. I always figured she was worried about what her husband might think about her joking around with you, and as a solution, chose to play the victim so it would overshadow what actually happened... which was nothing inappropriate. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the conclusion I came to after watching that challenge.
This shoot needed a sound guy. The low rumbling is really unsettling through headphones.
Show, don't tell
You changed shirts :)
Do they film them at the same time for all the players? Also, is it possible to hear someone else doing a confessional?
Yeah i always wondered how far away you are from the others when you do a confessional, like can they even see you at all?
@@Earlsweatpantch I believe sometimes they are taken to a separate island or another place isolated from camp.
Aight
Does Probst watch any of the confessional footage or any of the day-to-day footage? My sense is that he is aware of events and details from these that he then uses at Tribal to stir the pot and at times, manipulates the game a bit. That would be why I would be hesitant to be completely open in a confessional. That being said, it seems like one of the hardest parts of being in the game is that, unlike at a stressful job, you have no time over the 39 days where you can completely relax and unload. A confessional would be helpful for that release.
Who’s the contestant in the thumbnail
Heyyyyyy I asked this question!!
Keep it up. like your videos. yeah. ok. Wellone. Don't know what else to say, you asked me to comment. oh, I'm surprised the view count is so low, give i some time I bet you make more from this than the show when its all said and done. Good luck.
I agree with you on how more survivors should be honest with the producers about their strategy in the game, but this can screw them over if they play a second, third or fourth time, as the new cast now puts a huge target on a players back that reveals all their plans and tendencies
What about Danni using the confessionals to gain information about other players, but not giving anything away?
How?
@@jaxontime5028 she would give vague answers, or just false information. She said she could tell by the questions from producers what was happening with the other players.
Justin Harness damn shes smart
Do you know if most confessionals actually make it on the show?
Can players/do players ever have the urge to initiate a confessional themselves? As in, does anyone ever approach production dying to get something off their chest in a confessional?
what you say about confessionals is true and may lead to more appearances in future seasons but since they are secret not apart of game and the end result the voting not important to winning game..
Should they let audience have one vote in finale in some way
It seems like getting increased airtime would be enough incentive for players to divulge their full plans to producers
Enjoy your commentary. Unlike others I've heard (Rob's Got a Podcast, Russell Hantz), yours definitely provides a unique insight into the game. Also...love the Hatch/Shark shirt! .
how do ppl goto bathroom lol
What a loss not having you on season 40. Big mistake by the producers.
But how do we know this was true for Season 1 but now is totally different? BTW you should have been on Survivor 40 but you shouldn't have been allowed to be naked as a rule of the game.
Dani didn't share much.. and it helped her win, so I don't think this advice applies to everyone.
ur arrogant
And you're a b*tch what's your point
Your thumbnails are very deceiving.
