Becky tells her story of how she maneuvered her way into being mortgage free with no money. It's worth putting in the effort to get mortgage free because living without that heavy burden on your shoulders is a great feeling. So many people are stuck in the rat race because they get a big house with a huge mortgage. Then they have to work 60+ hours a week so they can make the payments. If you want to hear the story of how one woman made the journey from rat race mortgage prison to homesteading debt free paradise this video is for you.

I love this woman. She figured out earlier in her life than I did, that accruing stuff and money kills you, inside and out. It kills your heart and dreams. Here I am at almost 54 and I just figured this out. Now I will have to work hard to get out of it. Tiny house, here I come!

Ive met plenty of fantastic and knowledgeable RE agents. Becky had a 1st and not so good experience with one and apparently hired one like you.. Im surprised at how many people actually hire agents like you/ones that give the industry a bad rep. There are many agents that work very hard for their clients, care deeply and wear many hats on their clients behalf and go far beyond 'just showing a home'...especially with 1st time buyers. Not all agents are 'just in it for money' and many work really hard and love what they do. To all reading this - Dont hire Amy as your agent for buying or selling!

Becky, I am sitting here waiting for the call from my realtor to tell me the sale of my (expensive) house has been recorded, and that my 5.5 acre farm has been paid off from the proceeds. Today, in less than an hour, I will be mortgage free. It has taken 2 years, 1 year of it paying 2 mortgages waiting for the house to sell, and as you said, a lot of FOCUS! The world does not want you to be financially free - the traps are everywhere. But once you have the vision, you have to hang onto it like a newborn baby

Recently, I paid cash for a secluded property that has a 19th century school house, hand pump and electricity. Will continue making improvements and will be moving there within two years. SO, so tired of giving the best part of me away each day with none left for me or others at the end of the day.

We have been living without a mortgage in our own home since we were 22 years old (7 years). My husband was overseas in Iraq the first year we were married. I lived with my parents and we saved a good bit of our paychecks. When he got home, we paid cash for a single wide and rented a lot for it. We then kept saving our money (not buying crap we didn't need, paid .15 an oz or less for ALL groceries, drove used cars, etc) until we were able to purchase a small piece of land and a repo double-wide trailer (totally a wreck, by the way). We sold our single wide and used the money to remodel the double-wide. We are in the process now of selling our double-wide and land, which we plan to net around $40k. We will then obtain a mortgage for an inexpensive house that is on a big piece of land. We will rent the house, and use the $40k to build a homestead somewhere else on the land. The main thing we will be doing differently is building either an aircrete or earthbag home. We don't want to sink our cash into conventional housing that will require constant maintenance and have a higher heating/cooling cost. Earthbag/air crete homes are easier to build, and cost less to maintain and heat/cool, not to mention they are WAY cheaper.

For those like me who want to do something similar.... we Must get back to the very basics of our finances. Get out of debt, by any means possible. Stop consuming (buying) non essential things. I don't have $29,000 in my pocket for a cabin kit. However, I have looked at wood portable buildings with lofts for under $8,000. There are different options out there for people of little means.

We ended up finding 11 acres for 38,000 just 15 miles from them. We are staying in OK while fast tracking the payments and saving to build a house. We bought it this past summer and will go down and start working on it this coming summer. If there's enough, we're going to build a 10x10 log shed from the trees we clear on the property. I can't wait to get moved down there. Every single day I'm dreaming or planning what we're gonna do while we're there.

Instead, we didn’t have to tighten our belts because what I learned was that almost all of my salary was going to taxes and the cost of the job. It’s exactly what she said - the fast food, the second car and gas/repairs, hiring people to do the yard work and all the other things we were too exhausted to do ourselves on a too large house that sucked up every spare minute and every spare dime. We sold that house 3 years ago and bought property in Wyoming and have been debt free ever since. We’ve never been happier.

It's so nice to hear an adult talk about things like this in some detail. I never get to hear about it. My partner and I are in our late 20s and have an apartment right now, but we're itching to get a house some time. We're starting to ask ourselves these lifestyle questions already. Now that we sort of have jobs, are adults in the world... how do we want to live the rest of our lives? What kind of house, what kind of location, what can we realistically afford, what kind of job situation do we want to craft? It's a lot of work, but I'm glad we're thinking about it early and trying to set ourselves up for success.

You are so right about people being stressed out trying to make payments. A guy at work was upset that his wife ran a credit card bill up to over $30,000. They had file for bankruptcy and he lost his motorcycle by order of the court. A year prior though, he was telling me that even though he only makes $15.00 an hour, he should still have 3 bedroom house, because its the American dream. I don't think he or his wife has a clue!

Hi Becky! I really enjoyed the video, and I think it will be a great encouragement to anyone wanting to be mortgage free. Our path was a bit different, but we have our little 4-acre farm and have enjoyed it for 20 years. We are still learning and eagerly await each new video you and your son make. It's always good to compare methods, and I have learned a few things from them like getting my hens to lay eggs year-round. I'll be happy to click the amazon.com link as my way of saying thank you for sharing your videos with us/your fans. :))

I have been gardening , canning, and dehydrating for several years, I am compelled to grow more and more every year, and now we are buying an acre+ in NC, which is a much growing zone than we have in Ohio, where we presently live. I really can not wait to see what we can do with so much more space! I would like to start with 4-6 chickens, but those are really the only animals I want, so maybe I am not a very ambitious "Homesteader". I really have no ambition to have any more animals than that, perhaps someday I would consider a dog, but not while my old cat is still alive and bossy. But this will make us mortgage free, and give me the space I want. I will still have to work at least part time, but hopefully we will need less being more self sufficient. I may even get involved in the local farmer's market, and bartering, because I grow more then we can ever use on our own and I really enjoy it. Maybe it can supplement my gardening addiction a little. I hope to be and feel as free and relieved as you obviously do, but I am nervous about using our savings for this adventure.

You are so darling. This is how darling. I already live mortgage free, but my husband moved me into the rat race from an acre. We downsized to get ready for his retirement. I can't see the Tetons out my kitchen window anymore. I can't see the sunrise or the sunset because of other people's structures. I wonder what my husband would say when he comes home tonight and I want to give all this up and move back to that feel you get when you love your surroundings.

I loved your story. I'm kind of in the same boat. I sold my home at the top of the market in California in 2005. I moved to Phoenix and bought a big new home with a pool and paid cash. I went back to work but after 8 years of being mortgage free I was able to save a ton of money. So I moved back to California and put half down on a short sale home from the money I saved for being mortgage free. Now I work very little because my AZ home pays for my California home from the rent I get paid and the left over pays taxes on both homes. So my needs are very little. I am very happy I made the right moves. I wish I could live on a farm, It is so me...but not the wife.

I love your videos! This is so wonderful for you to share like this. I knew I wanted a tiny house on wheels as soon as I saw Jay Shafer's house I designed my own, and love the journey I'm on, too. I've lived in it for over two years, and have no mortgage, and am looking for land after my mom is gone and can move away from here, where the taxes are too high, and the zoning is restrictive. I'm older than you, and I wish I had gone for it sooner.
Best wishes to you, and thanks so much for sharing with the grateful, and the hateful. It's too bad that they're so unhappy, and want others to be there with them. Ignore them and thrive!
