    They were always exquisite on the ice. You can feel the love and their deep connection coming out in their programs. I would not have waned to be the skaters that had to perform right after them. They were too tough an act to follow.

    Sergei didn’t even look like he’s using some of his energy here 4:28 . You can always notice small details when doing lifts or throws. Like the male using more force or strength. Sergei’s like always chill~~~~

    I’ve never, ever heard Scott Hamilton, or any commentator, tell you about a mistake before it even happened. He was always reacting live. Here he was watching a tape later, and he’s telling everyone that he’s watching a tape later. “The only mistake is coming up right here, wait for it!”

    You can see how tired Sergey is, his face is pale, he looks like the breath was taken out of him. Katia said that 6 months he has his upper back pain, that is the sign of heart problem. But No, nobody cares about it. He should be in the hospital to check his health. Specially that his father died from heart disease. I refuse to believe and understand this situation. How in the world this happen to him. The closest people didnt take care of his life.
    Show, competitions, medals........
    Is all of it worth to loose life.
    I New nothing about it till couple months ago,,,,,,,, and I can not watch it without the tears. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

      Camilla K at 28 years old, no one expected anything like that and being an athlete, a pairs skater, back/shoulder pain is common. And if you read her book My Sergei, his back issues were his back. He would have his foot go numb even. I was 14 when he died and couldn’t believe it myself and yes you asked why and how. I still ask why and how.

    • @ravenel2
      @ravenel2 Před 3 lety +15

      As tragic as it is, no 28-year-old goes to the doctor for a test to see if their arteries are blocked. Everyone would naturally assume that Sergei was in far better health and had much longer to live than his overweight father who died at 55. I doubt any Olympic skater today would be thinking about his heart. That said, he was visiting a lot of doctors and an astute doctor might have gotten an idea that something else was wrong, especially if the doctor knew about his father’s four heart attacks. The language barrier, unease with the American health system, and his stoicism almost certainly played a role. Is he going to go to an elite doctor in Connecticut or Lake Placid and complain that he’s out of breath? No. Would a doctor even understand what that meant, coming from an Olympic athlete in perfect shape? No. People are and were trained to treat heart attacks in athletes like runners and basketball players and “manly” sports like that, so it probably also hurt that he was a figure skater, in a foreign country. No one looked for it.

      B C congenital heart defect caused his death. It was missed in Russia too

      i agree, there was an interview in russian where sergei said that it was time for them to rest and that maybe they should coach. However they kept skating because katia wanted to. even in her book katia said sergei was suffering a lot and at times he didnt want to skate anymore but they kept skating. katia said herself as well in her book that shes a skater first before anything else. they should have rested but for her, work and skating was the most important thing.

      @anja1627 Před rokem +2

      @@ravenel2 Well said. :( But he actually went and saw several doctors but his coronary artery disease was undiagnosed. For a 28 year old Olympian who looked fit, heart disease was probably the last thing on the doctors' minds. Sergei also apparently didn't show symptoms aside from the constant back pain and that numb foot he had 6 months prior to his death. Athletes are used to pain and injuries, so those two signs he had could have been taken as the usual injuries athletes go through.

    Hindsight is always 20-20, as the saying goes. I know if a man that was having a stress test and had a heart attack during the test and died right in the hospital with the Dr right there! They tried but could not resuscitate him! Sadly, some things just can’t be prevented!

    @ja3399 yes yes yes, however, maybe if the "sensing of what was to come" would have been some kind of warning to have saved him......what a tremendous loss....as much as she loves ilia, it is evident that the light permanently went out of her soul when she lost her Seriozha...as did the light of those that loved them and loved their contributions to the world.....agonizing loss....bittersweet to view them and their story

    • @kimberlybellefontaine1215
      @kimberlybellefontaine1215 Před 6 lety +8

      maria pounds Such a tragic, agonizing loss....still to this day, I mourn his loss....and I mourn for Katia and for Daria. If you watch videos of Katia now, up close, her eyes don’t have that same light they had when her Sergei was alive. To lose the true love of your life? I don’t think anyone ever really comes back from that. Not when the love was like that of Sergei’s and Katia’s. Sure, life moves on, but now there’s forever a sadness where love used to live...😔💔

    • @ravenel2
      @ravenel2 Před 3 lety +2

      I used to fiercely defend her love for Ilya since of course she had the right to move on and be happy. Now that they are divorced, I can say, good riddance Ilya. You tend to gravitate towards men like your father and Katia’s father was a control freak, so I wonder. Sergei was perfect, but interestingly enough, Katia didn’t exactly go searching for Sergei for her partner. Her first marriage was really a lucky fluke of the Soviet skating system.
