WHERE is the RAFALE ???
Where is the 1910's? Would love to see all the bi/tri-planes.
Amazing job guys!
Again, really hope you create a Vid with all the first place and possibly 2nd place Planes from each era!!😅🙏
Do yall know about Jousting? Dueling on... sexy machines. Get a 3km start 1v1, any plane, guns or dumb rocket pods. Shoot like hell as you merge.
Have a good one....
where is the felon?
Try the same series but this time, take off, intercept and LAND back home. An exercise in fuel economy, management and speed. First one to touch the tarmac without exploding, wins.
That’s unfair to the f104, they tend to lithobrake
English Electric Lightning could do it with the cicrette still alight in the mess after landing :)
in that case just give it to the JAS Gripen. ;-)
Ah, but while everyone was out intercepting, the BUFF pickled off all of its nuclear-tipped JASMs and "home" became a brief series of bright flashes in the rearview mirrors. Now, they have to find an alternate landing site to ride out the apocalypse.
@@TheStormpilgrim ha reminds me of the black out curtains and eye patches the RAF piloted used in the V-Bombers to keep good eyes for final bombing run because of nuke flashes 😂
Would be nice to have the JAS 39E in DCS with it's rather nicely improved specs, but it's nice enough just to have the JAS 39C.
I think he's going to bring the Gripen E in the 2010's video.
I wonder if it would’ve made a difference if the F-22 didn’t start so dang late
Considering there was a 2 second difference between the raptor and 2nd place, I’d agree
Yup that's actually a fair comment. I'd never have imagined it would be so close...
I saw an F-22 pretty much stand on its tail right after takeoff, and vanish.
Great video series! You've done all the decades, now do an all-time championship with all the winners!
Great game
WW2 fighters
Got a couple to re-do first as we made some errors.
I believe according to a German source that the EF’s standard procedure for intercept is cruising at Mach 1.5 then accelerating to at least Mach 1.8, which is mental.
The ONLY youtube channel that makes me feel like a valued viewer and/or valued humanoid!
This is important.
Probably need to figure out how to get these 'race to intercepts' timed and include a return leg.
Great fun to watch!
Agreed. Planning for return totally changes things. Would love to see that.
I would love to see you in some sort of collaboration video with Growling Sidewinder. It would be really cool to see you two plan a mission together where you intercept a carrier group with fighters or something, defending a bombing run. It would be interesting to see how you two would be communicating.
We did look into it BUT it turns out we just set up our scenarios so differently, I don't think there will ever be any compatible middle ground. I am trying to keep everything as realistic as possible, within game limits.
@@grimreapers I see, thank you for at least trying! Keep up the great videos, as always!
Could be wrong but i read somewhere the Eurofighter was the fastest accelerating fighter in existence... would make sense being a delta primarily designed for supersonic BVR intercepts, I'm not surprised to see it at the front.
In clean trim the Eurofighter will indeed beat anything - but what's the point of an fighter with no fuel or missiles? There's plenty of power left in the engines - indeed the engines are lasting so long that Rolls Royce are going to reprogram the fuel delivery to release another staggering 10% thrust in mil' power - making it an even hotter beast - the climb rate to 60,000 feet is already something else - the English Electric Lightening would be proud! Conversely Russian and Chinese engines are already running at breaking point as they are. So with hotter engines and conformal tanks which are coming Eurofighter will stay ahead of the rest - particularly as F-22 is going to gain draggy compute-suite and sensor pods - which is the only viable way of upgrading it.
Really great video, I would love to see you guys do this with WWII Fighters.
As fun as that would be, it would take too long.
Now we need the 1900-1910.
Stationary barrage balloons 😂
Same distance too
The 12 hour grim reapers video
Yes, and a 20km intercept.
Then it's also important who has the best aim with brick and pistol
It's worth noting that the main reason why the F-22 and F-35 don't have a higher top speed isn't because they can't, but because going faster would heat up the leading edges of the wings/body/control surfaces enough to start melting/damaging the radar-absorbent material. Presumably, this also affects the J-20. This means that the MiG-25 and MiG-31 actually have a major advantage in this kind of mission, as they don't need to worry about going as fast as possible.
So it can’t go faster 😂 tf
Probably true for F-22 (not to mention the waist at the rear of the fuselage overheats at sustained high speed causing it to unglue itself) so there are a few programmed in restrictions. The F-35 is plain maxed out by engine characteristics - F-35's engine is designed to be responsive at very low altitude, ie to work well in it's F-35C configuration, from the deck, low and slow with a heavy weapons load - it's not optimised for high altitude performance like a pure fighter or interceptor would be. I suspect the F-35 is already running in intake stall at v-max.
The Coating is actually of Secondary Worry, the Primary worry about the Aircrafts Edges heating up is IRST's.
IRST's are already a Thorn in the Eye of Stealth Philosophy, so limiting their effectiveness is a Major Concern.
@@FTWIHA Indeed - in good conditions Typhoon can already track fast moving aircraft at around 60NM on heat signature alone - beyond the high PK of most air to air missiles - the DSP "oversampling" that has increased RADAR performance ten-fold has done the same for IR sensing. Poor old F-22 has practically no passive sensing on-board - has to rely on external resources to track anything passively.
I read that the Raptor looses something like 25-40% of it's potential engine thrust due to the shape of it's engines nozzles. The price you pay for having all aspect stealth.
Yeah it’s a shame nobody has yet figured out IR management with turkey feather style 3d thrust vectoring (that we know of)
This is mostly static. The performance difference high and fast is pretty small.
@@dmacpher it's not really for reduced IR purposes its for reduced RCS purposes on the raptor. This is a big reason why the Su-57 is considered low visibility and not considered "stealth" as even from the FRONT the roundness of the engine nacelles increases the radar cross section quite a bit, as it would never be at the absolute perfect head on angle the whole time, and makes its RCS about the size of a 4th gen fighter when seen from the rear by radar.
But there is no price to pay for shoot-first.
@@evangalinsky2499
The su57 It's stealth but the u.s simply can't Accept Who the russian HAVE surpass them. The rounded su57 nacelles are made of radio absorbent HONEYCOMB composites UNLIKE THE aluminium + RAM of the f22
You should do the intercept with the 2 winners of every decade, so the top 2 from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 2000s all in one race. Just so we can see how they compare.
A space shuttle during re-entry, about Mach 25. Catch ‘em everytime 😎
That's mental. 🤣😂
Well done to the eurofighter. Everyone was doubting it but that late overtake past the f22 at the end was clutch
People tend to forget that in reallife the EF-2000 is able to beat Raptor in more then half of the engagements, according to wargames between Luftwaffe Typhoons and USAF F22s.
@@TheNecromancer6666 agreed
Thanks man
@@TheNecromancer6666 Dogfighting? Makes sense. I think the raptor was made for more of BVR fighting and killing without even knowing they were there.
@@nick4819 Also BVR, EF-2000 has Meteor, and some sensor trickery it can use to equal to playing field.
Cap, while we appreciate your efforts, DCS is a game. Family comes first. After 34 years serving Defence in Australia (24 in an RAAF blue suit), it is a job. enjoy your time with family all moments are treasured (with or without grog). I am almost 60 and have some regrets so take it as you will.
To be fair to the Gripen you should do one intercept, return for refueling and rearming and the do another intercept. It will be really hard for the other planes to match the turnaround time of the Gripen.
Since these are *intercept* races, you should require the jets to carry four Fox-3 missiles to be able to do the interception.
And come home. No military is throwing these jets away lol
@@denvermiller5091 In most cases, probably not. But if the threat is big enough, losing a few hundred million dollars worth of aircraft is cheaper.
But I agree that's a scenario worth testing. Also they should test not detecting the target until it's 20-30nmi out (like a cruise missile) and running a very short range intercept.
@@denvermiller5091 pretty sure Russia is with their lack of pilot flight hours lmao
The Top speed of the F22 and the F35 is classified. Although an F22 pilot once stated that it was 2.4. LM has published that it will do in excess of 1.5 without afterburner. That means that between all these airplanes the F22 would easily out perform in an intercept. As for the F35 LM has stated that the top speed is aerodynamically limited to 1.6. I have studied this airplane for years and I can say that it is not limited to 1.6. My educated guess is that it would not only supercruise under the right conditions, with afterburner it would exceed 2.0. It is actually possible that the F35 has the highest top speed out of all these airplanes at very high altitudes.
So you want people to model the classified information that they don't know into DCS?
@@bearcatracing007 I did not ask for that.
F-35C which shares an identical engine with F-35A has to be able to operate off a carrier with heavy fuel and weapons loads and still be responsive to pilot input - that gives you a basic engine configuration that will limit speed and altitude due to the high bypass ratio required to meet those objectives - the engine is also right on its mechanical limit out of the box - very little headroom left (more like the typical approach of the Russians!) - ie there have been more engine failures than are usually tolerated by the US as the basic engine design is at its limit - they knew this! They should have stuck to the original plan to build an all new F-35-specific engine (P&W partnering with RR) rather than continue with the over-stressed P&W F119 (F-22) derivative. This has turned into a false economy as I believe the fragile engine will hamper F-35 for decades to come. Okay, it's probably not as fragile as Russian and (particularly) Chinese engines - but it's not the usual situation for the US or its allies to be in.
Pretty cool video. I think that the Rafale is the only plane missing.
Rafale: Sorry but we ran out of humans :(
Again really hope you make a Vid with each winner from each era lol possibly 2nd place Planes as well😅🙏
There's maybe enough aircraft now to do the jet trainer race with the MB coming out? I think you'll need to pull the target in a bit closer though!
Love it CAP. Liquor plus family a MUST! Best combo ever!!!!! Next day not so much.... hehe Keep up the great content!!!!
Would love to see these races with return to base
to eliminate the takeoff variable why not start everyone line abreast at say 200kts at 500ft
Maybe we should include the notorious TR-3B and all the new variants with faster that light capabilities. It might be a Game changer in the real world.
You should do a race with the trip back and landing included!
Cap and simba are like batman and Robin. Good race.....can you do 2nd Ww jets. . Me 262, , gloster meteor. The Arado blitz and P-80 shooting star . I would like to see what would happen if they meet up. Good show 👍. No beep words as well. 👍

At first I looked at it like wow, such nice looking radio control model planes you have there. :D Then I realized it was from a game.
i will say this, the top 5 should do another run... just to make it solid in stats of aircraft and skill... something to plan in future, was fun otherwise!
Wonderful video as usual😊 only detail, I know you are British but common guys where is the Rafale here? Ojai quite close to Eurofighter but always good to see it in this kind of contest!
Rafale: Sorry but we ran out of humans :(
I'd expect the Rafale to be somewhere around, tending behind, the J20.
@@grimreapers it's fine and for your defense it's not really an interceptor also 😌
the fuel tanks play a big factor, the j20 doesn't have jetasonable fuel tanks so that would affect its performance while the su 35 doesn't have fuel tanks which makes it a lot less draggy but the downside is that it will run out of fuel faster. the Raptor started last, behind the Eurofighter but they finished so close. if they started head to head, the raptor would've won
In the game perhaps the Raptor should have won - but the Eurofighter should have buggered off in the first couple of minutes (the climb to altitude) taking advantage of it's much lighter take off weight - these things matter - and by sitting at 37,000 ft the EJ jockey was needlessly bleeding speed and adding drag compared to everyone else running at a more efficient 40K feet.
not sure if you've done it, but fighter jet nascar seems like a great idea in my head

Yes
Are you able to do a three way battle with ai? And I want to suggest a French carrier group vs a British one, also Indian carrier group vs chinease carrier group.
Awww no F-15EX? they've updated the engines in the F-15 several times since the last version, but IDK if that's available in DCS currently either
Nothing could do it faster than an English Electric Lightning !
In clean trim a Eurofighter will beat a Lightning - hard to believe but true!

Can you next race either the ww1 or ww2 Era planes perhaps not as far to make up for the lack of speed
A strike eagle would trounce all of these

It’s a GREAT DAY!
It starts like a fashion show....
And Fly rose to the occasion....
Simba with a dead stick intercept.
Now do a race with the winners from each era competing against each other.
you should have a free for all fight with all these planes
It would be the F-15.... the F-15EX carries 22 missiles and fully loaded hits Mach 2.5
Well, if this race was in MSFS 2020 the Typhoon would blow all others away. It's stupid fast in that sim. That's the nice thing about DCS. The level of realism is unbeatable. In MSFS the focus is on pretty graphics and ease of use. Which has a place, but when it comes to combat and comparing real world numbers, DCS is KING.
Because in the lightest trim the Eurofighter would beat anything easily. When you start adding drop tanks and missiles things would get more interesting.
I had much fun in the EF2000 spacialy with the Luftwaffe skin, original made for the ILA in german
Honestly you should have only used the 4 supercruise capable airframes, EF-2000, JAS-39E, F35, F22. Because they can actually perform a long distance Intercept an return home. With reasonable Fuel.
Love that Skin on the F-2000. Flys F-2000

RAZBAM confirms development on Lightning for DCS - you need this for the 50/60's intercept race when it gets released !!!!
Wilco once released.
I'd be curious to hear what actual planners think about weapons & fuel configuration for stealth aircraft in a defense/intercept role. Would they ever choose an f-35 with all external spots occupied by air to air missiles? What's the ideal situation? Is it the same decision with AMRAAMS as it is with the AIM-260?
What about defending a carrier against a huge wave attack? Would it be best to have as many missiles as possible? Sacrificing the stealth to shoot down as many incoming aircraft/missiles as soon as possible, at the possible cost of being downed early yourself?
They probably won't put external missiles on the f35, it would ruin its purpose. They'll use the f35s for stealth and 4th gen aircraft as the missile trucks. It's usually not worth comprising stealth for extra weapons unless if you have air superiority
@@oscarzheng9902 yes, lol, I know it does ruin stealth. Just wondering from my armchair how to work out the cost/benefit at different stages of battle.
At the beginning of response to an incoming massive wave attack at the carrier group, with very few aircraft in the sky only one or two in position to actually fire missiles, is it more important they remain undetected, or shoot down as many incoming aircraft/missiles as possible? No matter what loadout they choose, they're probably only going to be able to launch missiles and then turn away, and once they turn away, they're not gonna get shot down.
This would all be less of a concern of course if they could stick a whole bunch more missiles in the bay, but no room, ya know?
Sukhoi knows how to design some damn good aircraft, I must say. Very proud of the Su-35.
Awesome races guys! Maybe an efficiency and speed combined race?
That guy in the eurofighter needs an archie backhand.
Money would be on EF2000 all eastern block fighters would have to throttle back before engines blow
Exactly - and the JS-20 which would blow up even earlier.
Hi cap i have got a question that u may have already ansewred but why don't u ever feature the rafale in ths kind of videos?
Last time u commented it u said that it was overpowered but since then we have seen the typhoon mod doing things that would never be possible. So i don't really see the difference.
And i have seen the Até video talking about the rafale mod saying that yes it has a little bit too much trust but that the real rafale "way more agile at low speed" so, is it really that overpowered?
Respectfully (this is not to be mean it is really just is a question)
Cap as valued viewer we need to see one with the felon and the jf-17 thunder!
Su-57: the flight model is locked on this plane so we can not make it realistic. Currently flies over mach 3 when we tested it.
JF-17: Agree but need more human pilots

I think it was the F-16 in the 1980's battle.
Where is the F-15EX, MIG-35 and the MIG-31? Certainly, they belong on this 2000+ list and would likely have won. The F/A-18 E/F, Eurofighter Typhoon and F-22 Raptor are 1990's designs.
