  • On February 22nd, 2023, Japan Airlines flight JL16, an Airbus A350, missed its scheduled landing time at Fukuoka Airport and was forced to divert to Osaka's Kansai International Airport. The incident occurred because the flight's crew failed to factor in the curfew that is in place at Fukuoka Airport.
Fukuoka Airport has a strict curfew that prohibits any landings or take-offs between the hours of 11:00 pm and 6:00 am. This curfew is in place to reduce noise pollution in the surrounding residential areas. Unfortunately, the crew of JL16 did not take this into account when planning their flight and arrived at Fukuoka Airport after the curfew had already begun.
As a result, the airport's control tower informed the crew that they could not land and would need to divert to another airport. The crew decided to divert to Kansai International Airport, which is located approximately 550 kilometers away from Fukuoka.
The incident caused a significant disruption to the passengers on board the flight, as they were forced to spend additional time in the air and then travel to their final destination by ground transportation. Additionally, the incident caused a delay for other flights scheduled to use Fukuoka Airport, as the diversion of JL16 created additional congestion at Kansai International Airport.

That's a failure of the airline scheduling department, not the pilots imo.
