I would add to your list of things you should never do: 1. Do not move, shake or bump your console when it is turned on, a disc is loaded or you are playing a game.If you need to move your console, turn it off and preferably disconnect the power cord. 2. Do not jam your console into tight spaces, leave plenty of room (5 to 10 cm) around your console for unobstructed airflow and heat-dissipation. 3. Take care to investigate that you properly position your console; Some consoles, such as the XB1, should be placed horizontally, not vertically. It is also not recommended to stack your consoles. If you place our console vertically, look into a good base-plate that will try to help avoid the console tipping-over. 4. Mind the unplugging and plugging; You should not unplug and plug in cables & accessoires unnecessarily too often. The ports of the consoles are not really ment to be plugged-in and plugged-out on a daily basis, if that can be avoided. If it is a UB connection, you may want to consider a (good quality) short(!) USB extension cord and unplug and plugin into that USB extension cord instead. If that port on the USB extension cord goes, it is way cheaper to replace that extension cord then your console. 5. Dust-covers for your console & controllers; It does not hurt to cover-up your console & controllers when they are not in us and are not powered-on(!). Dust can creep into many curvaceous, hindering ventilators/airflow, joysticks and so forth, causing heat-problems and weird errors. It does not have to be an elaborate cover, a thin cloth (preferable plastic) draped across can do the job of keeping dust away. Keep an eye on the exit-exhausts of the console, including the ports, if you notice dust there, whilst the console is turned-off and unplugged you may want to consider a vacuum-cleaner to clean-out those debris. 6. Keeping things charged. Modern-day chargeable batteries, controllers etc, are perfectly capable to be connected to a charge-point/station all the time until you need them. It is often not advisable to play/use the device until the charge is completely depleted and only then charge them back up. That can often put wear-and-tear onto the rechargeable part.

I have to sincerely & fully disagree, as static electricity is only a concern when it is regarding a single electronic component. An assembled unit has virtually no sensitivity for static discharge. Using compressed air is not advised as that could potentially create condensation within the assembly if you spray too harshly, you then need to wait a couple of hours before reconnecting the power to have the condensation evaporate naturally. I have been dealing with electronics since 1976 and never have lost nor damaged any electronics due to static discharge. That does not mean you can ignore it, but need to understand it.

sounds dumb but actually works: put on toothpaste with a handkerchief, wait 2-3minutes, wash the toothpaste off with a fresh handkerchief. It fills out some of the scratches and might help your laser to read it. Sometimes a scratch is not deep enough but your laser still cannot read the disk so it jumps over it, If there's a scratch at the startup of the disc, It won't read. Toothpaste can actually help there. Doesn't work on really deep scratches tho

It gives the ones already updating Little to no time to update and if you do this, it will tell you false times of updating Example: if you have 100 download speed and questions a lot of things, the one that's updating will *STILL* SAY 99+ hours left
I was a bit rough on my Gamecube when I was a kid, it was my first ever console when I turned 7. I didn't throw it around or hit it or anything, but I would occasionally leave the system on and a game paused for hours at a time (my young self didn't understand the concept of saving and quitting). After awhile it would freeze/completely lock up and and I had to do a whole system restart to fix it. I suspect now it may have been overheating, and when I would leave it on for so long as a kid it damaged the cooling fan. I recently found it in my garage and decided that I should see if it's something that be fixed. So far it works fine, I'm planning on doing a lengthy play session (about 3-4 hours) and see if I can get the console to freeze/crash like it first did almost 10 years ago. Hopefully I can find a way to get it back to great shape, but if not, buying other Gamecubes aren't *that* expensive.
Jailbreaking is awesome though. Even if you want to fully support games, buy all your games properly, you can still access homebrew, open source ports and tons of emulators thats fun to have on your console - especially a handheld like PSP, PSV or Switch.
Wish people could find a way to jailbreak the PSVITA sooner, I'd love to play PSP games in my PSVITA with that crisp 720p resolution (I don't have a good PC or phone to run high-quality PSP games sadly)
A budget pc that cost the same as a console will out-perform any console. cheaper games, more exclusives, higher FPS, better resolution, no online subscription for multiplayer(for most games), completely customize-able (without voiding warranties) to your hearts desire. If you want a console to run a game with higher settings, you dont have that option. These are just a few reasons but consumers have more choice and freedom on pc. Thats why pc is objectively better. The only possible advantage a console has over pc is in competitive gaming. All players on console are on an even playing field(same hardware, same specs, FPS, etc). If you enjoy console more than pc thats fine, no one can ever tell you your wrong, that would be ridiculous.
1:57 - Yeaaaaah I kind of done the same, I bought an expansion for my storage, I was hoping my PS4 wouldn't hog all the space (2TB) on it... as I wanted one half for my PS4 and other for my Xbox one... Booy when I plugged it into my Xbox and started to install games for it on there, it wiped the entire HDD, around 80-100GB to redownload..
Hopefully you don't have to run into that kind of hell. The PS4 update was super finicky with me. I had to download it over 30 times for it to actually install when putting in a bigger harddrive. (Yes, I knew which update I had to download)
My TV completely burned out due to sudden electrical surge during a rainstorm. Got it fixed. Then it happened agian. Just as I was about to unplug it, too the second time. One time i was trying to game share with someone on xbox one and when we traded accounts my console reset by itself while doing it, possibly for an update and when my xbox turned back on it would sit on the green *Xbox* screen until the screen would just go black

Most terrible mistake I made: left my Wii U with my ex boyfriend after we broke up and when I got it back the sensor bar was broken. He claimed he "Accidentally dropped it" but I say he was talking nonsense. His TV is not that high up, maybe one meter or something like that and he has a pretty soft carpet floor. It was an original Nintendo Sensor Bar, I highly doubt that it breaks from dropping it. More looks like he threw it against the wall, so "I dropped it" my a**. Worst mistake trusting someone else with my console never do that everyone :D

I remember back in the PS2 era where there where all kinds of remedies for repairing scratched/unplayable discs, from stuffing them in the freezer overnight to straight up washing em with soap and water.

sounds dumb but actually works: put on toothpaste with a handkerchief, wait 2-3minutes, wash the toothpaste off with a fresh handkerchief. It fills out some of the scratches and might help your laser to read it. Sometimes a scratch is not deep enough but your laser still cannot read the disk so it jumps over it, If there's a scratch at the startup of the disc, It won't read. Toothpaste can actually help there. Doesn't work on really deep scratches tho

Yes smoking is bad for electronics the cigarette smoke residue build-up on heat sinks and contacts of connectors and can cause many issues such as overheating or components not being recognized that they are connected or can just straight up fry your system I have seen many computers where the Wi-Fi card is not being detected and I open it up and the system is caked in dust and cigarette smoke residue.

I was a bit rough on my Gamecube when I was a kid, it was my first ever console when I turned 7. I didn't throw it around or hit it or anything, but I would occasionally leave the system on and a game paused for hours at a time (my young self didn't understand the concept of saving and quitting). After awhile it would freeze/completely lock up and and I had to do a whole system restart to fix it. I suspect now it may have been overheating, and when I would leave it on for so long as a kid it damaged the cooling fan.
I recently found it in my garage and decided that I should see if it's something that be fixed. So far it works fine, I'm planning on doing a lengthy play session (about 3-4 hours) and see if I can get the console to freeze/crash like it first did almost 10 years ago. Hopefully I can find a way to get it back to great shape, but if not, buying other Gamecubes aren't *that* expensive.
How to get dust off console:
Step 1: take it apart
Step 2: clean the one Cyka Blyating piece that needs to be clean
Step 3: put it back together
Jailbreaking is awesome though. Even if you want to fully support games, buy all your games properly, you can still access homebrew, open source ports and tons of emulators thats fun to have on your console - especially a handheld like PSP, PSV or Switch.

A budget pc that cost the same as a console will out-perform any console. cheaper games, more exclusives, higher FPS, better resolution, no online subscription for multiplayer(for most games), completely customize-able (without voiding warranties) to your hearts desire. If you want a console to run a game with higher settings, you dont have that option. These are just a few reasons but consumers have more choice and freedom on pc. Thats why pc is objectively better. The only possible advantage a console has over pc is in competitive gaming. All players on console are on an even playing field(same hardware, same specs, FPS, etc). If you enjoy console more than pc thats fine, no one can ever tell you your wrong, that would be ridiculous.

For number one I get most of my advise from you guys. The tip about mapping controls really helped me when my RB button broke on my Xbox and I had to wait a week to get a new controller.

Most terrible mistake I made: left my Wii U with my ex boyfriend after we broke up and when I got it back the sensor bar was broken. He claimed he "Accidentally dropped it" but I say he was talking nonsense. His TV is not that high up, maybe one meter or something like that and he has a pretty soft carpet floor. It was an original Nintendo Sensor Bar, I highly doubt that it breaks from dropping it. More looks like he threw it against the wall, so "I dropped it" my a**. Worst mistake trusting someone else with my console never do that everyone :D
