A compilation of international versions of Disney Channel being closed since Disney+ was announced

- First, Disney XD in India gets turned into a Marvel channel (which surprisingly has some non-Marvel content like Pokémon, Beyblade, and Asian programming like Arjun, Prince of Bali and Upin and Ipin (I heard the latter is disgusting) while other versions of said channel get closed due to Disney+ or for no reason. Disney+ is also affecting the existence of Disney Channel and Disney Junior as many of their international versions closed after Disney+'s launch.

I feel so bad for the kids whose parents cannot afford Disney+, the shock of waking up and finding your favourite channel is gone must been hard.
Yeah I remember when Toon Disney was replaced with XD and hated it's closure. That broke my little kid heart.
I remember back when I was younger there was a situation where Viacom and DirecTV were fighting and Nickelodeon was gonna be removed off of the satellite service. And they displayed such warnings on the channel and asked people to call Viacom or DirecTV to ask them to sort it out. Scared the life out of little old me so I begged my mom to call to save nick. Luckily it stayed.

No bumpers, no goodbyes, nothing. Not even a half-hearted "thanks for everything". These are legitimately the only channel shutdowns I've ever seen that don't feature some kind of special sendoff. It feels cold. They don't even have the courtesy to kill the feed at the end of an episode for most of these, just ending it right in the middle of a show. Really does give you a sense of how disposable Disney views their audiences
This is one of the many reasons i hate Disney
Disney Channel is still present here, in Spain, somehow.
That's the Disney style. So.... When are people going to stop throwing their money at then so they stop it with the horrible remakes? 🙄
@@joveaaron-realYeah, weirdly it is still present in some countries.
This is all so crazy to see considering where I currently live that Disney Channel is actually still on the airwaves on my cable provider as we speak it’s so weird seeing this
The ones like India’s were actually cool. They counted down to it and made a custom transition for it, in case anyone was watching. The ones that just cut to black or the cable company screen are creepy and the ones that play bumpers to fill the moments before that are extra crappy since it’s advertising stuff you literally can’t watch anymore.

Its exactly how they ended toon disney to make way for disney xd, just a clean sweep
There's something oddly cold and intimidating about the replacements that seemed to occur without so much as a goodbye. You'd think a company that's targeted towards kids would put something more comforting to tell their audience what was happening, instead of a sudden change to a different channel or some monotone info screen. Hell, some kids would even panic a bit if they saw something like that without explanation.

I genuinely feel bad for kids coming up in today’s world of countless streaming services. One of the greatest parts of childhood in the 90’s/early 2000’s was everyone had the same programming, and we all could talk and discuss what we were watching. Now programming is spread across countless different streaming services. I am so glad I grew up in an earlier time.
Well, there are torrents/free streaming sites, so someone being unable to access is not really a problem. My pain is that since you can get pretty much any content you want instantly, the value becomes kinda less than if it's "one episode you can only watch at a specific time, and then wait until the next day".
Disney + kind of sucks sometimes. Why'd they have to get rid of disney channel?
You sound like an oldie right now, calm down man, you can't ride your dinasaurs anymore.
@@BlackbeltHitoshi i cant take anyone seriously with a name like “blackbelthitoshi” and a frikkin anime character as their profile picture. Anime kids are legitimately the cringiest thing to pollute this planet:
I was born in the second half of 2000s but I still experienced watching cartoons on TV channels, not during all the childhood though cuz then when I was in middle school streaming started to become very popular😢(somewhere between 2017-2019)
I don't undertstand how nowadays kids enjoy watching cartoons on streaming whenever they want.
I mean it is GOOD that now you can see anything you want whenever you want cuz before if you couldn't watch an episode and you forgot to record it you had to wait literally DAYS or even WEEKS until that episode was on TV again.
But imo it was better to wait patiently for each episode and not rushing basically everything cuz then u would forget what u even watched💀(basically what happened to me everytime I rushed tv series except in rare cases) and also like you said it was better when everyone had the same programming, not like now where you go to school and the boy who rushed a new tv series faster than u literally spoils u everything💀

This feels oddly reminiscent of when TV channels in the United States switched from analog to digital; it just ends abruptly.

This has to traumatize some kids, I would assume. Imagine you as a kid, late at night, watching TV without your parents knowing, when suddenly the screen shuts off and says that it has ended. That would be horrifying…
It reminds me a lot of the change from analog to digital. The last analog channels in the US shut down this year and have for much of the world now and even though I had no nostalgia for a lot of them, it was sad to watch/listen to. One australian network had a goodbye animation that paid homage to when channels would go off the air for the night as a way to say a final goodbye a few years ago.
I'd be scared too. I hate that kinda end.
I think kids are more brave than that. Thanks to milennial parenting and how lazy they are, they gave their kids access to CZcams, where they can watch anything they want.

And the way they just go to a "This channel has stopped broadcasting" message, it feels so cold and lifeless. They don't give a fuck about even giving a great or fun goodbye, they just want money.
Geeeez, the way the broadcasts all end so suddenly .-. When Nickelodeon stopped airing in Germany they were saying sorry so much, every time a show ended they were showing a screen where it said that they won’t be available anymore in a few days and they even had a special goodbye from the moderators. I was so sad back in the day (1998) when that happened as I loved some of the shows there so much, they were unique.
And seeing how Disney just… stops like that. Wow. As if they didn’t knew they stopped broadcasting. Or they weren’t taking their viewers seriously because “it’s just kids”. Either way, not a good way to end broadcast.

Funny enough, this is how Saturday Morning Cartoons died as well. No farewell, no notice, just unexpectedly ended in 2014. But news reports did mention it back in the early 2010s. And just like Saturday Morning Cartoons, Television networks will eventually go away at some point in our lifes. And the only time TVs would be used is for retro gaming and that's it.

It's honestly depressing seeing how most if not all of these shutdowns happen unceremoniously. Even poorly received online games like Anthem get formal farewell messages or announcements, meanwhile Disney just pulls the plug on all of their owned TV networks without so much as a hint that it's happening. They don't even have the courtesy of cutting the broadcast after a commercial bumper, just cutting them off even if they're in the middle of showing a program. Really goes to show that Disney just didn't give a crap about their TV presence once they sunk their teeth into the streaming market.
After decades of entertainment they don't even give it a send off. They just cut to black, it's kinda creepy even if its just a TV channel. The way anything can end with no conclusion.

can i just say how i HATE the feeling that i get when the channel just stops? like all the things, ads and overall charm going on in the channel just completely stops? its like a feeling of dread, think about it: years of constant TV streaming that you and i watched, for all the public to see 24/7, gone. its just so uneasy how from one moment to another, bright animated images from your favorite channel moving up and down with charm, change to a still image with the channel’s logo. this moment where you can HEAR the silence, feel the abrupt stop, watch it all go down to a monotone text informing that YOUR favorite channel, has stopped streaming. forever.
It also causes anxiety because of my history with the EAS alert system. Especially the silence before the blaring alarm. It just gives the feeling that something is wrong. It also just gives a feeling of helplessness. At least India and Japan knew how to properly end the channel.

In Brazil, Disney Channel and Disney+ coexist. Disney Channel has always been a cable TV channel here. It has never been free. I don't think Disney Channel will ever end here. They're even producing new contents in Portuguese, despite the popularity of Disney+. There's also Disney Junior, which is like Disney Channel but for an even younger audience. The Disney Channel has closed.
I think a more reasonable explanation for why the Disney Channel is still a thing in Germany is probably our crappy internet infrastructure. The moment you leave one of the major cities, you will likely not encounter very good internet connections. Both on mobile data an on landline connections. Fiber only get's built in some areas, cable often is only available in large cities, and DSL often wasn't upgraded since the 1MBit/s days. So for a lot of households streaming just isn't a viable option.
And like you said, D+ is often more expensive for households then to just watch the linear TV channel. While you do have to pay for private channels in HD, it's still "only" 70€/year for all private channels over satellite, while D+ is only Disney content for 90€/year...
Probably the same reason it's still in Spain. Fiber was only introduced to some regions in the last 2 years and only the capital cities have it.
That's a strange thing to know. Here in Brazil even rural areas have fiber. Usually we see countries as Spain and Germany as the great developed ones, but I guess no one is perfect
@@ultrajorge It's not just home internet here.
ISPs charge very high prices for pretty basic service, no matter if for the home or for mobile. We often joke it off but it's honestly quite a sad story of corporate greed and corrupt politicians...
@@ultrajorge I don't know why it is like that in Germany. In Spain it probably has to do with the terrain as well, Spain is very mountainous and it's very expensive to build infraestructure en some regions, that's why trains are also expensive to ride.

Also, Disney XD India ending with Jungle Book 2016 is a pretty fitting sendoff considering the setting for Jungle Book is indeed India...but all these channels going away gives us one more reason to restart society.
Times change. This is like when they got rid of Saturday morning cartoons on airwave tv because Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, and Cartoon Network became so popular on cable. Change is inevitable, streaming is king now, and Disney is only keeping up with where the demand is at. The advantage of Disney+ is it has a way bigger catalog than Disney Channel or Disney XD. You can watch whatever show you want (retro or new), whenever you want! Including shows made just for the platform.
What I found to be really depressing about a lot of these closedowns was the lack of a formal goodbye during broadcast, as you’d think with all of these promos and ads that they’d care to remind and warn their viewers that they’re closing. Even the few that did imply a demise were extremely vague about it, like I doubt that a young kid would’ve gotten the memo from the Disney + ad saying that it was Disney Junior UK’s ‘new home’ meant that it was going to be it’s only home from now on.
Thank you so much for putting this extensive compilation together btw. It’s pretty sad that we’re already up to an hour’s worth of Disney Channel closedowns not even a year into Disney+.
I wonder how many more are going to shutdown before the inevitable US announcement, as once that happens they’ll probably all go down.
1. Agreed. A closedown message should be shown prior to the shutdown to inform the viewers who are not aware.
2. Thanks. Also, I think Disney Channel in Latin America might close down soon as it starting copying the Italian version of the network by airing old DC shows.

Imagine watching Disney XD at night with all the lights off and the broadcast seeming normal, and then all of a sudden the music cuts off and then it just says Disney XD has stopped broadcasting. It's probably just me, but it's oddly creepy.
the sudden silence is just unsettling
It would be unsettling. I used to watch Gravity Falls, Phineas and Ferb on the cable box. I remember scrolling weeks ahead to try and record all the episodes in case I was gone when they aired, although I'd always try and catch the new ones live. I miss that feeling. A lot. Modern TV is convenient but it removes a lot of the excitement imo. I wish there were networks that still prioritie cable but for nostalgia but unfortunately most don't nowadays :(
Im litterally the only one awake and I get chills every time the broadcast ends..
Nah you’re not alone the way how it just cuts to the “Disney will no longer be available screen” is creepy shit gives me goosebumps
It gives that feeling that something bad is going to happen or something bad has already happened and it just left a traumatic aftermath for kids in its wake.
From the bottom of my heart thank you so much for the transition music because it reminded me of the videos of people opening eggs that I watched during my childhood, brought back a core memory ❤
Cable TV just hit different bro. I always work with TV turned on in the background. I just like to hear the sound of it, feeling like someone is around me. Disney Channel & WakuWaku Japan you'll be always missed.

Imagine being a kid. You come back from school to watch your favorite show.
You were told there would be new episodes tomorrow.
But many families around the world are relying on these kinds of channels to entertain their kids, and I can recall that. And most of them can’t afford things like Disney+. If that had happened to me, I would literally be desperate. Imagine. No cable. And you would have to pay the money you don’t have for some quality family time.
It’s just sad. No one cares anymore. Of course, Disney+ is nice and all, but not everyone can have nice things. Especially kids. The US one closing would definitely make a dent in Disney’s viewers.
The U.S Channels Here Will Most Likely Never Shut Down.. It Still Generates Alotta Money Here For Disney…
I doubt the US channels are gonna close down after all Disney is American
@Minecraft_Gamer_YT_TV ♫ yeah I'd rather not give money to Disney

"Most of them can't afford Disney+"
I don't know about other places, but in the states, Disney+ is way cheaper than cable.
This made me realize that a majority of my childhood shows and channels are either dead, dying, or barely making it out.
I want to go back. I want to be a kid again.

Hey hey hey it's all 3 of us.

I don’t want to spend 100s of Euros to some low-quality streaming service instead of buying something (phisically) and keeping it forever
I still don’t forgive Disney for shutting down the Disney channels
Man watching these channels closing its programs is sad to see, it sad to know kids these days tend to watch youtube or twitch more than traditional cartoons and television programs. I remember watching these channels back in 2007-2008 ( I was between 3 to 4 watching these channels.) As an early 2000's kid, its hard to see channels I grew up watching go, I distanctivly remember watching Pheiaus and Ferb on the disney channel, as well as Kim possible and American dragon Jake Long. On Disney junior (which was called playhouse Disney back when I was a child), I remember watching Handy Mandy and Micky Mouse Clubhouse. I'll be honest that I am glad to actually watch actual TV shows on a TV channel during my formitive years, its sad to know kids these days don't even watch that many educational programs now (I know disney isn't exactly educational but their shows at least have morals). Heck, I even watched PBS Kids up into my High school years ( my freshmen year being the 2019-2020 school year, which ended prematurly due to COVID). But sometimes I hope kids will still watch traditional TV to some extent, but I feel like not that many people these days watch TV anymore. My grandfather only watches the TV just for News, other things he's interested in he watches on youtube, and he's in his late 60s, Even the older generations are starting to move away from TV programming. I know for certain that the next generation after Gen Alpha will certainly never get to know what TV programs were like and how kids use to watch them. I remember watching channels like Cartoon Network when it aired a vareity of shows and not just Teen Titans Go, heck I remember watching the original Teen Titans on TV, and of course there's Nickolodean, when there were a ton of other shows aside from spongebob. HECK, I remember watching 4Kids entertainment as a kid, even in elementry school. Despite there being many gen Z kids watching Television in the early 2000s, myself included, obviously loved watching these shows in the early 2000s, the sad truth is that Television is in fact dying since most kids these days rather watch youtube videos instead of any tv programming, my younger cousins will never get to know what it was like when I was watching TV at their age, one of them is 7 and the other one is only a month old, I also have a cousin that's four years older than me, being born in the year 2000, and I also have a lot more cousins as well on both sides of my parents families. But aside from my older first cousin, I am especially worried for my younger ones since they were born after the 2010s, which I would say is the last good year for cartoons, I know there were some great shows released like Gravity Falls and Steven universe ( I have only seen Gravity falls, I have yet to watch steven universe). But at that time I started to get more interested in video games, specifically at the start of the 2010s Kingdom Hearts was the one I have played the most (specifiacally KHII) considering it had most of the characters I grew up watching in the same world with characters that could be in a Final Fantasy game, I played that game a lot in elementry school. But in conclusion, (like as if I was writing an essay for my english class), the companies that made our childhood are far more souless than ever, like I was in school one day I heard a bunch of senior students (same grade as me) talking trash about the little mermaid movie ( and this is from their words, I have not seen it, and I am not interested in it at the slightest, since I watched pretty much all of the original, animated disney movies anyways, even the classics). I honestly think the movies seem boring to me these days, but hey, at the end of these live action movies they are just cash grabs fron the nostalgic people and are unoriginal to me, I really only liked that Maleficent one, which is much better than the lion king one, as if I haven't seen the originals already, which I already did anyways.
you’re right, i feel the same exact way, our world’s changing so fast, i remember when streaming services were a new thing that only some people had, now almost everyone has a netflix account. watching the cartoons i love growing up on television was truly a blessing so many of us took for granted. nothing will ever beat waking up on a saturday morning to catch a new episode or the anticipation as the show goes for a commercial break
imagine being little and scared of the dark, relying on Disney Channel to sleep but you can't, so you stay up late, it's 3 in the morning
and then it goes dark, and you get the message
"Disney channel is no longer available"
That would've scared me when I was little

Considering how Adults reacted to Blue’s Clues Steve’s message a month ago, saying how as kids Steve suddenly leaving the show left them confused and emotional; I could see how the sudden disappearance of an entire entertainment outlet could subtly traumatize kids today in ways that are infinitely harder to resolve.

watching a channel that shuts down without any warning feels like you are in a analog horror universe but it didnt have any warning and announcement
The most depressing thing about it is how the channel bumpers carried on like nothing major was happening before the channels died forever. No big send off, no “If you want to continue watching your favorite shows and more download Disney+!” Or anything of the sort, some even cut off mid-shows. So sad.
Seriously the Fox shutdowns had more effort put into them and those were made for an audience that would have already known about the shutdowns months prior via TV listings and social media, unlike children who would just tune into the channel without checking any external sources first.
Well, most of them dont do the thing... but some, like Dlife and Disney XD Japan do. You might know this already so

@@wendyokoopa7048 well even later than that. Disney channel has been around for a LONG time. Like the original Mickey Mouse Club.
I agree, btw is it strange in my country that Disney XD had not shut down as yet .
I didn't realize that Disney+ basically killed off all of their TV shows altogether in favor of Streaming. I may have made one for Toon Disney back in 2012, but this is just downright awful. Disney Channel was the network started in 1983 as a premium channel, then in 1987 it switched to cable and became the home of many cartoons between 1987 up until the mid 2010s. Now, seeing that this is now defunct, just goes to show that TV is starting to die off as early as 2020 or even the 2040s or 2050s (or when Generation X individuals pretty much dies off or something like that). By 2030/2040, TV may go extinct and the only time TV airings would be used is either for old retro content like TV Land and such, the news channels, or re- runs/movies on demand on the channel.
Just a big guess but I'm gonna guess cartoons will reappear once again but less uneventful things to happen like pretty much a cycle. This guess is probably gonna be absolutely wrong

I remember when Jetix became Disney XD. It was such a weird feeling seeing in real time a channel that I was such a fan of become something else.
It really is insane how heartless these companies are. Disney+ isn’t cheap, and neither is cable, these people have been paying you money, did you really need to.. shut it down? It’s also far less convenient for the general public to not have a 24/7 stream of content and instead have a vacant platform where people have to manually chose what they want. Especially when you’re a kid, now (you’re a squid now) when you want to watch freaking ducktails or something you have to choose a specific episode. Children are indecisive.
This is true. That’s the convenience of cable my husband and I talked about. We don’t like choosing what we want now and I’m an adult. When I was a kid I flipped channels or waited for a certain episode to come on. I can’t choose anything even now.
Splatoon moment
It really isn’t that deep. My nephew gets really entertained watching Disney+ with both new and very old tv shows
You're right in that Disney+ and cable aren't cheap, but cost aside, streaming services aren't that bad, without mentioning that not every child is indecisive and some of them may prefer streaming services over cable due to them not being available at the time the shows they want to watch air.
To give you an example, I would have enjoyed streaming services if they have existed when I was a kid, since there were a lot of times where I missed the shows I wanted to watch due to me not being available at the time where they aired, of course, I was able to watch the episodes I missed on the internet, but watching the episodes of a show years after it aired is a different experience than watching them as a kid and while they were airing.
Times change, maybe kids end up loving streaming services over cable for the sheer fact streaming services allow you to watch the shows you want to watch any time and without commercial breaks.
Haha funny Splatoon refrence

As I’ve been saying for ages, streaming platforms absolutely suck for this! They were so successful originally because they were a place you could find content from multiple places without needing to buy cable television, but now that everyone is making their own streaming service, where you have to buy Netflix AND Disney+ AND Hulu or what have you to get all the content you want, it’s basically just like going back to having to buy a bunch of channels. Streaming is killing cable TV and the worst part is that it’s turning out more expensive for the customer and is completely unnecessary.
Who says you need Netflix and Disney+ and Hulu? You can choose which streaming services you want and ignore the rest. I'm happy with just Hulu and Disney (and I may drop Hulu).
@@jdb2002 It’s the fact that we even need more than one. I used those three as an example because they’re most popular. Of course nobody is going to get a streaming service they don’t want. But like you said, you have two. A majority of the people I know have all three - and I’m sure there’s people with specific interests who might want to watch Survivor, so they’ll get Paramount+. Or you might be interested in Good Omens, so you’ll need Amazon Prime. It was better when it was just one or two streaming services that could give you a lot of content from different sources. Now if you want to watch something that your streaming service doesn’t provide, you’ll have to get a different service or pirate it. That’s why I’m saying it’s like going back to cable TV where you have to buy a bunch of channels to see the content you want.
@@jezily and if we were to have cable, we wouldn't know when that movie or series was gonna air. maybe tomorrow, maybe next month.

Unlike Cbbc, they said goodbye and thanked everyone for watching before shutting down, but Disney channel shut down without even a warning. It just shows how they view audiences.
The thing is, is that most of them cut off after a show has ended or during a show, they never once have a message saying there goodbye to the channel, and even if they do, its usually by the tv providers, not Disney, abd even wgen it is by Disney, they’re VERY vauge about its departure… what a way to out i guess
