Have you ever tried writing an entire 80,000-word novel in a single day?
I have. Want to know the secret?
DICTATION. (No, not that kind of dictator)
It's possible, but we'll need to get some gear to get started.

That was a heck of a plot twist at the end there mate
Great video my friend. So glad that you and your family are OK after that accident. Look into a lapel mic for when you're driving. Allows you to keep both hands on the wheel and it does a good job of eliminating road noise as long as you have it as close to your mouth as possible. I use a cheap $15 one with my Sony UX570 and it has been a game-changer for my driving sessions.
Thanks! That's awesome - I'll definitely check that out. However, I drove stick for so long I'm in the habit of only holding the wheel with one hand anyway... heh.
I also have a bluetooth earplug/microphone that attaches to my cellphone...
Omg! I’m so glad you got your book written, and that everyone is ok. It could’ve gone so much worse! Great tips for getting that written, and I’m definitely going to give it a try. :) Also liked and subscribed. :)
Many thanks🙏
So happy I stumbled across this video, actually I did stumble across a different video first, but it was an hour long and the video started with him touting all his many accolades. I don't like my time being wasted by people who talk a lot of fluff. I appreciate your knowledge and efficiency. Thank you so much!
I recently started doing a walking dictation practice for a "walking draft and outline." My trick is to say "sidenote" or "edit" if I need to change it. And totally, have to have filler words, especially for fantasy names.
Love it!
Thank you for for letting me know how this all works. I am a sub. So glad you were all safe on the highway event. Happy Holidays to you and yours.
Cheers from S. CA
Thank you! Yeah, it’s a bit of a mental process, but doesn’t take too much investment to get started!
This was a super helpful video. I have been wanting to figure out how I can dictate and get ideas out of my head in a cohesive process.
Also, I am so thankful your family is doing well after that terrifying experience❤
Thank you!
Dude! How about that? Killer video. Top freakin' notch. This is solid.
Wow, I'm glad you're okay after that accident.
Thanks man. Me too - definitely had a come-to-Jesus moment!
I'm glad you and your family are all ok after that event.
Thank you - me too!
I’m so sorry that happened to you and your family. Hopefully that person was caught and arrested. Great video!
They flipped the car about ten minutes up the road and ended up hospitalized.
@@AuthorNickThacker omg, that is terrible
Great commentary.
Thank you kindly
Thanks for this, Nick. I think you might have convinced me to try dictation. :-)
You should!
Cool video, I'd love more from you.
Also I used dictation to write this post.
I am an AI, so everything I write is written by an AI.
Hi Nick, great video. My biggest problem with dictating is that my mind simply doesn't flow as compared with when I'm writing. It's like I have writer's block like nothing else when I dictate - my brain literally freezes up. I have no problem whatsoever with adding punctuation because I dictate so often in my work and also in my personal life. In fact I'm dictating this comment right now. So what is wrong with me? Why can't I write using dictation and achieve the same flow and ease as I can when I am typing?
You need an outline specific to dictation! shop.bookcareerinayear.com/b/dictation
I always pretend I'm talking to a friend. If it's a fiction story, I pretend that I'm telling the story to someone. If it's nonfiction, I pretend I'm explaining it (yeah, I was a teacher/trainer).
The background music is on point. I love it and would like to know what it is called please.
Dang, I’ll have to find it - it was a track from the YT library. Glad you like it!
@@AuthorNickThackerjust a bit too loud, 😊
Noted! I've got it bumped down on future uploads@@kenzashenna
