Good to see an updated version. Looks like the AFL media team have done their research seeing as it is rapidly gaining attention right now throughout the world.
@Jayden Loader Yeah but soccer is pretty boring when know one scores.
@Jayden Loader what does any of that have to do with the AFL... on the AFL's own youtube channel? Dont like it? ... move along? You're coming across as a soccer bible bashing evengelist.
@Jayden Loader i don't understand why you even commented this ahah, all he was saying was that its been gaining attention he didnt say it was the most watched sport in the world tf are you on ahahah
@@josiah1539 he is a troll who wasted his own time
@Jayden Loader so now we’ve found the identity of the Man United spammer.
Now tell me champ, why do you spam our comment sections? We never did anything to you. Why do we have to be subject to all of your hate towards our game?
If you hate our game so much, don’t watch our videos. Simple as buddy.
The fact that you’ve been spamming on AFL videos for 10 years is actually sad. You don’t even make the attempt to reply to comments. You only make soccer look bad. Soccer will never be number 1 if you keep making people hate on soccer because of your spam
The AFL should allow international youtubers to use game highlights without copyright.
i think you'll find its the TV networks that don't want their footage used

Rule number 2. Get a coach and learn how ti keep the clubs members there.
Yep … a Kangaroo fan 😢
Hang in there.. I'm a Richmond supporter and had to wait 37 years for a Premiership. The other 2 were just the cream on top. Essendon will rise again.
Hopefully this will help many foreigners become more obsessed with Australian football (like me haha)
Where are you from Ben?
Yeah lol
I hope so too! Great sport
I have family living in Switzerland and one of them is interested in going to a game when he comes to Australia on holiday one day.
American here, been watching for years but haven’t really had a team, will go for Tassie if they get approved, otherwise I guess I’ll have to pick one
About time we have an updated version but even this isn't perfect. I always love watching international people react to the sport
Yeah the incredulous parts sounded out of place but great to see the women’s game being included.
I am an international student in Melbourne. Been there once just for fun, and then I go to the AFL games every week. Exciting sport.
I'm from England staying in Melbourne at the moment. I just watched this and thought it's absolutely brilliant lol
I’m just a curios kid can you guys tell me a bit about the sport 😅?
I’m American and I’ve been causally following AFL since 2007. I’d love to visit Australia and NZ one day. Watch rugby, 4x4 drive in the bush, play footy or at least watch 😊
Finally an updated version and this time it isn't an American explaining in it. Also i can't believe they added the new stand rule! I would also find this one easier to understand if I didn't know how to play it.
The American voice over served its purpose. But yeah, sounds more authentic to have local accent and good to have the aflw included.
It could be five minutes longer but it is good
@@mwhearn1 Didn't sound very American either, more like a voice actor doing a cartoon voice. We don't talk like that.
@Jayden Loader The only reason why sports (soccer, NFL, NBA, AFL, Cricket) become popular in countries or continents is because of war and imperialism (including cultural imperialism). It is has little to do with the merits of the sports. Soccor was the sport of the most power nation England at the right time.
I watch and follow soccer, i love it, but it's global popularity over AFL has nothing to do with its merits.
@Jayden Loader Aaand your point is what? ya love soccer... go watch soccer? The greatest sport? Well thats just a soccer fans opinion isnt it? im sure the 2.5billion cricket fans think thiers is the greatest sport.... slow clap for the effort.
Thanks for posting this. I'm an American who was introduced to the game by my Australian friends, and who knew NOTHING as of June. I have found the game to be fast-paced and exciting, and I'm impressed by the skill of the players, who can kick a ball with accuracy on the run. In American football, running, catching, tackling, and kicking are all done by specialists, whereas in Australia every player has all these skills.
Go Cats!
I am also an American that came to be a fan through an Australian friend. This is my second year to follow a full season and it is the most enjoyable sport that I watch (I'm also a huge American college football fan). Remarkable turnaround for Collingwood this year from 17th to 4th with heart stopping finishes all year. Go Pies! 😀
@@gannfan Looking forward to the showdown on September 3rd.
Have you seen the CZcams videos about Mason Cox ?
@@iggyblitz8739 No, I haven't, but I looked him up. I'm surprised, because few Americans have kicking skills. But at that height, he's got to be good defensively.

Love to hear that mate! Hopefully the saints will win a premiership for you in the near future!
Unfortunately you chose the wrong team 😂. Kidding, great to see people in other countries interested in our sport!
You Sainters need the patience of a saint. American Pie here.

American here! Same been following a bit. The Sydney Swans 🦢 are my team.
I got introduced to this Sport years ago because my dad went to Australia and got me a footy shirt. I asked for a Football shirt and got a kit from North Melbourne. Ever since, I’ve been following north Melbourne (it’s been a horrible experience) but I really enjoy the sport a lot. I live in Germany and enjoy waking up on weekends to watch some footy. Cheers to everyone down under
Thanks mate! Great to hear 😊
Lol
omg yay another north supporter! yeah its rough but thanks for sticking with us. we’ll turn it around soon (i hope).
I'm a North Melbourne supporter, and I feel your frustration. With one game left during the regular season, it's looking like we're going to be wooden spooners for the third year running. (For anyone not from Australia, getting the "Wooden Spoon" is when a team finishes last in the competition. It is just a term. There is no actual physical wooden spoon awarded.)
Chin up. We will get better, and you'll know you made the right choice to support the Kangaroos.
as an american watching afl for the first time this is beyond helpful and easy to understand. legit a fan now
Who are you supporting?
As an Indian, always wondered what "footy" was whenever there was a cricket match in Australia and it came up. Now that I have seen it it seems like it is a mix of football, basketball, rugby and american football. Although I don't think I would survive even 10 minutes on the pitch, it sure seems fun to watch. You guys should do a few exhibition matches in India everytime there is a cricket tour of Australia in India. Might actually take off.
The sport doesn't look that hard. Mostly a bunch of running.

Always wanted an updated version from the American one but, although this is more in-depth explanations which is good, it dropped the part where it was compared to other international sports leagues which I think was a mistake. If this is for non-aussies to understand the game, it's good to compare aspects of our game that is similar to one they might understand. (e.g the size of the field, the bounce in the middle like a throw-up in basketball, etc)
Size of the field graphic was great.
It doesn't compare to other sports
@@Adroyo It ha elements of other sports, but is also unique.
@@iggyblitz8739 yeah but that's also like saying the moon has elements of Uranus. It's completely it's own thing, that's what makes AFL great.
The original video is not an "American one". It was made here and used the voice of a guy (Steve Salisbury) who is from the USA, but lives (lived?) in Australia and who appears regularly on Australian radio like Sport SEN in Melbourne.
good updated version, cannot wait for more foreigners to learn our beautiful game
Well done. This up to date version addresses some of the confusion of the old "What is AFL". Maybe an additional explanation of how old Aussie rules is might help stop the clueless from saying it's a "copycat" game. And I did like the size comparison part of the old vid. Oh well. Welcome to the greatest game on earth.
I agree with you. The size comparison was a good and it always shocked people viewing the video. The age of footy would definitely be useful as well. I do enjoy the new video, but I think a combination of both would be better.
@@soniasawyer477 Totally agree. The size of the players proves that you don't have to be six ten or built like a bulldozer. Anyone, any size, any race and any gender can play our wonderful game, even if for fun.

Great new video, updates the issues I saw newcomers have with the old version. Explains things nicely.
truly the greatest sport in my opinion
this is a much better explainer video than the old one
Like it! Stopped watching NFL long ago, along with MLB. I had zero interest in watching spectator sports when I stopped playing them. About 17 yrs old, I'm 54 now. But I could maybe get into this. Gonna put on a pre recorded game now and see if I can get into it.
As an America just learning about the game. This was great because I was so confused. Now I understand and can’t wait to watch live. On another note I think my favorite move in the sport was the “specky”😱🔥👍🏾. That looked awesome 🤩
I put on a random channel the other day and this was on. I really liked the sport almost instantly without understanding the rules 100%. I hope this sport can expand to the rest of the world soon.
Learning about this as someone from the UK whose friend went to an AFL game during his time in Australia.
Good to have an updated version
Great to see an explanation video, will explain sport better to wider audience. As an indian, AFL needs to be promoted in here. Has great potential. Given the aussie- India link of cricket, footy can gain massive audience in India.
Also it is played on cricket ovals so you have plenty of stadiums for it to work! IPL off season!
@@aussiedude5804 very true I read about the sport and it was played in cricket off season to keep the players fit. It definitely needs to be promoted here people will like the sport.

There are better explanations in this one than the last one. But still one big mistake, bounce the ball WITHIN 15 metres, otherwise they think you have to do it on the dot

Love this! Finally a video I can show to people interested in the game that's a bit more up to date than the old one.
I think this version is going to be a lot more understandable for people who have never seen the game. It now specifies that you can't throw it, that any player can play any role and explains the scores properly. Also, glad to see that the Grand Final crowd is now called 100,000 instead of "90,000+".
Oh my God finally there is an updated version. And there is visual explanations as well, totally better than any of the others. Keep up the good work AFL
Much better than the old video at explaining the game. Good stuff. A more in depth version for people who want to dig deeper would also be good.

As a Brit, I reckon that this is the best form of football there is!
it's my australian friend who got me into australian football. Now I just love it
I’m an American who stumbled across AFL highlights while trying to get into Rugby. I think I might prefer footy more
This is why I always thought of Australia not just as an unknown island in the middle of nowhere, but as an independent very far away planet where people have sports where 99% of the world knows nothing about it
And then there’s Australia’s wildlife.. it gives me the Willies..
I’m American and this is super helpful!
This Yank loves Aussie Rules. It combines my favorite bits from rugby and just chucking the football around the schoolyard.
I watch it every Friday morning @5 am here in North America
Thank you. For someone who is just a newbie to the world of AFL, this is helpful. Thanks mates!

I wish they mentioned how old it is. That gives the sport even more legitimacy, to be seen as an equal to sports like soccer and rugby. A lot of international people think it’s just a modern derivative.
that's a pretty Accurate View; CS in the US here; ESPN used to show it
in the "early days" then dropped the ball on the Coverage, and Networks
failed to re-visit and articulate the rules as Cable & the Web expanded;
Same w/ Rugby in the US, though there are Pockets of teams
& some Television; I think the Nuances are the Movement via "Required
Ball Bouncing", Passing & Kicking; I've actually caught back on to it
w/ the Women & their fragmented history, merging leagues, via
Google / Wiki & the AFL site, which is well crafted btw.
And to Your Point, w/ o having all the Facts, the Men have
prestige /established History that is left out of the Video,
w/ "direct" evidence in the Clips of the Speed and Skill, creating
a Thirst to get up to speed. There was a Show on Channel 7 or
one of the Aussie Networks w/ all -time greats in Football, Cricket
etc. Including Top Footballer ARCHIE THOMPSON as to which sport
has the most appeal in Australia / New Zealand; Toss out names
of the biggest AFL's Legends and I'm sure whoever you say was
on that program (See Part 2)

CS from NC in the US: I haven't Researched it for a bit,
but Rugby has Pockets in the US w/ Clubs, w/ some TV Coverage
of the UK/ Int'l scene, and there's traction in Ireland w/ Aussie rules,
w/ a few of the Women playing Down Under, given the Prestige of it there,
equivalent to Football (Soccer) where a Top US player goes to the best
Leagues in the UK / Europe or and/ or the prospects there try to boost
their stock to play for the "elite" Clubs; Not sure if there's any
small Leagues in the US & Canada developing talent,
but it's an added avenue to get kids off the streets:
I can see some serious athleticism from Both versions
of Football and applying it as effectively
if not better in AFL than Rugby
this video is perfectly put together. Credit to the producers and the AFL. This is the greatest sport in the world.
As a half North Korean and Syrian, I absolutely love this sport - I will one day visit Australia and bring by my government!
Sure but your government might have some trouble with our native wildlife. Let's not forget that our own government lost the war against our native bird the Emu.
A long time ago I bumped into this game during some channel surfing. By far this is the most entertaining sport I've ever watched.
Nice to see a Tipungwuti tackle one last time. A Rachelle Martin tackle is the next best thing.
Wish we had this in Europe.
Surprised there's not more there, but maybe it stems
from the Football or Rugby dream tradition, but given
the Rugby History, there would be players looking
into Aussie Rules; Sae w/ the US / Canada, which
has a small semi-pro / Club Rugby scene; My hunch
is it will grow elsewhere w/ it being another
option to get kids off the streets and create
camps, teams, and recruit footballers from
both styles be it padded or Booted
You have Amateur teams all around the world. But not the same as a game with over 100.000 crowds!

AFL should have mentioned and shown the evolution of a footballer from the indigenous kids playing the game on an island or in the outback to the clubs in just about every country town and city suburbs.
