When im sleep deprived I sometimes feel a little unaware of my surrounding and I find myself laughing at the slightest things. I also feel really happy. It's actually a bit addictive
There is an explanation for this. In the darkness we secret melatonin, which is a natural ocurring hormone, that makes us sleepy . When we get sleep deprived, the unused melatonin transforms into it's next of kin chemical, serotonin. Serotonin serves many purposes in the body, but is mostly known as the happiness chemical. So you get a little bit of a high, when you' re sleep deprived. However sleep deprivation is not something to play with, it can lead to circadian rithm disturbances, mood disturbances, even psychosis.
How in the world would this test be accurate? 😅 what about the people who take 2-3 hours to fall asleep, and the more sleep deprived we get, the harder it becomes to fall asleep? What about people who are heavy sleepers and wouldn't wake up to that anyway?
It's a "little test" not a scientifically backed and invested tool to test if you're sleep deprived. Not everything you see on the internet is serious.
Heavy sleepers means they sleep heavy from their deep or rem sleep not exactly after falling asleep as you're just barely accessing your light sleep most likely
I had a 92 hour bender of no sleep last week and it was awful. I've never been awake that long and I can't say I'd recommend getting to sleep psychosis.

So my experience with sleep deprivation! - Hallucinations - No, I don’t mean in the daytime I was seeing things that weren’t there. I had closed my eyes one night to go to sleep and I saw my ipad infront of me playing interesting videos. I reached for it and my hand closed on air, because I had put my iPad away a few minutes ago. This repeated for a few more times before I finally just stopped hallucinating - Extremely long naps - Two hour naps? No. Three hour naps? No. I’m talking 6 hour naps. I fell asleep at four and woke up at ten. I missed dinner so I just ate soup at like 11 pm. - I can’t do anything - Too tired to walk, too tired to eat, too tired to see, too tired to focus. Too tired to even sleep
That’s hilarious. I recline to rest and do a little homework on the phone, and before I’m a minute into things, I’m waking up because my phone has hit my face.
I usually end up very tired after my night shift but as soon as I lay down in bed I'm not sleepy anymore and I need approximately 15-30 mins to fall asleep.
@@anon515 I took 1mg melatonin pill and it helped me to fall asleep within 30 mins, but there were times that it didn't help me. I usually have sleep anxiety, afraid of not falling asleep is scary...
I have to ask but what if after 20 minutes you are still laying there eyes closed with a spoon in your hand? The test depends on falling asleep but if that is the problem in the furst place what then? I ask because many if us end up here looking up sleep deprivation because we dont go to sleep.
Brave of him to assume the spoon landing in the bowl would wake me, maybe it takes me 2 hours to fall asleep sometimes I don’t sleep at all but if I do fall asleep good luck waking me up
2 minutes. Using my phone and my face. Also I have mild obstructive sleep apnea (grade 11) and have not gotten a cpap yet, and my friend says once I lay down, I start snoring almost immediately. The sleep study study I did in July shows my blood oxygen level went as low as 84% and was under 87% saturation for at least 4 minutes with a heart rate of 37 bmp. Over 50 apnea events within a 4 hour sample. Scary. Sometimes on a 10+ minute drive after a normal day I get sleepy suddenly and struggle to stay alert while driving, and despite this all I STILL have bouts of insomnia (not falling asleep at all) and regularly end up pulling all nighters and going into work the next morning without any sleep. I'm sure that's only compounding the issue. On some days where I can, I normally sleep 12+ hours a day and feel as if I'm wasting my life by doing so in attempt to catch up on sleep, yet I remain exhausted. It's currently 4:28am while I type this out.

I'd been doing this with my phone falling out of my hands and landing on the floor, I blame the super comfortable exec chair but I definitely deprive myself of much sleep
Have been sleeping twice a week for years, ever since i can remember honestly. I’m 22 now, and feel pretty good but wouldn’t be surprised to see I’ll effects manifest under an exam. I have my moments, where I’ll need a week of recovery before being back at it. Thing is, this isn’t purposefully done by me. It just happens, I don’t really ever notice being tired… and if i am it for a few minutes at most.
I drop dead in my bed like within 2 mins but i dont think its cuz im sleep deprived cuz i sleep for like 10 hours a day regardless of how long i slept the night prior
Well i did something like that unintentionally but with my phone above my face but I'm pretty sure that i was woken up before i fully decided to put the phone down
I did this trick. At exactly 11 pm, I prepared everything and laid down. At exactly 11 so I can easily measure the time. I remember blinking a few times, then a long blink. The next thing, it's already 8:37 am. How'd I do?
This does not work if you have actual sleeping issues because of physiological contitions. If I could just lay down and sleep within 10 minutes, there wouldn’t be a problem.
What a weird "test". It takes me more than 10 minutes in any state to fall asleep. Often, when I havent slept my body is so wired that it is very likely I wont sleep much next night either.
This does not work for people who find it hard to go to sleep. Even if I had only slept 3 hours a night for a week, I still wouldn't be able to fall asleep during the day.
Its still bad, best is 8-10 hours i guess. But oversleeping they say is bad too idk why i have no research now, but 8-10h of sleep range is good and healthy then
