    • @CodyEngelCodes
      @CodyEngelCodes  Před 2 lety +4

      LinkedIn has inflated titles, Senior SWE at LinkedIn would be a Software Engineer at Google or Facebook. I should have mentioned that in this video but when I reference the levels I'm referencing the non-inflated versions that would transfer over to other tech companies (like Google or Facebook). $450K is what a "Staff" software engineer would make at LinkedIn which is the same as a Senior SWE elsewhere.

      Yep, I thought the same. LinkedIn was able to continue to operate fairly autonomously, even the interview processes are separate.

  • @CliffordFajardo
    @CliffordFajardo Před 2 lety +1

    From my observations (I work at LI, I've browsed blind, and levels.fyi) your salary ranges are close to accurate, except if you need start from "software engineer" (removing entry level..since SWE is entry level) and make one Sr.Staff SWE it would be more accurate - everything is based on pay bands, some of these pay bands per level as outlined in the video don't ever happen - its just a an off by one error with the titles lol

    • @CodyEngelCodes
      @CodyEngelCodes  Před 2 lety

      Thanks! I used standard industry levels in this video so that's why SWE was referred to as entry level because that's what it would be at Google or Facebook. I should have called this out in the video though because it did add unnecessary confusion.

      No need for a separate video, you won't make more money if you have a higher degree. In some cases you might get an extra $10,000 starting out but that is fairly insignificant when you consider the opportunity cost.

    I thought Staff software engineers at FAANG make more than engineering managers. I don't really understand why engineering managers are paid so much?

    • @CodyEngelCodes
      @CodyEngelCodes  Před 2 lety +3

      LinkedIn isn't a FAANG company, but engineering managers are usually a lateral move from either senior or staff software engineer depending on company. With that in mind, they are paid less than staff software engineers. Directors are paid more because they manage more people and are probably at the same level as a principal or distinguished software engineer depending on company.
