  • In this video I'm going to tell you everything that I learned about Airbnb so you can decide if you'd want to work there. This video will talk about salaries for software engineers at Airbnb along with other positions such as product managers and engineering managers. You'll also learn about how Airbnb started, what benefits employees receive, and whether or not I'd recommend working there.

    Thanks for the research. I’ve always wondered how well AirBnb compensates their engineers.

    Your video is based on what's available on Airbnb proper for devs, but we're ignoring Customer Support. For curiosity's sake, I'm on the other extreme end, which is outsourced customer support - and frankly, I think by volume we're a hell of a lot more people than what Airbnb is ever open to disclose - on paper it's a decent source of cheap "unskilled" labour, in quotes because the level of diplomatic soft skills needed here is through the roof.
    On my end of things, we're making anywhere between 760€ and 1050€ a month after tax, with mandatory medical insurance (not that you really need it in practical terms in the EU), 6 free counseling sessions a year, and 22 vacation days. Relatively run-of-the-mill numbers for call centre jobs in Europe, but definitively below-average compensation, even for the higher earners. For context, I'm based in Portugal where the minimum wage is 760€ a month after tax.
    The workload is simply not worth this pay, which is why most of the time its Customer Support sucks and the turnover rate is high - there's no real incentive to perform other than the *chance* of a promotion for an extra 50€ a month and a 120-200€ monthly bonus for meeting target metrics based on your tenure length.
    Airbnb Customer Support from the inside is basically the Mcdonald's of CS jobs - you take it because you don't have another choice, you're overworked & under-compensated, and pray that another recruiter looks at your CV from all the daily applications you send out to other places.
    Needless to say, I've already put in my two weeks' notice. Sorry, I had to let it all out somewhere.

    • @CodyEngelCodes
      @CodyEngelCodes  Před 2 lety

      Glassdoor is fairly misleading, they give the base salary as the front and center number. Look at Glassdoor, a Senior Software Engineer has an average base of $225k along with a $45k bonus and $212k in stock (on average, highest reported goes up to $914k).

      @@CodyEngelCodes yeah I figured you were going to say stock. But I’ve only been offered stock once and it was at a large private company that had converted to an S corp. Maybe faang or silicon valley companies or ycombinator unicorns are the only ones that compensate that way. Amazon gives stock on a 4 yr vested schedule and they pip ppl out after 2 yrs. Netflix gives the highest cash salaries and the other faang give the restricted stock that you’ll never see a majority of.

    • @natedavidoff668
      @natedavidoff668 Před 2 lety

      Unless you were a founding member or executive level roles. Software devs are like the blue collar workers of the tech industry and compensated at 80-100k at normal companies and 40-50k out of college or bootcamp. Giving people hope, Google hire .0001% of applicants. is fairly misleading in a video where thousands will watch and want this job for the money.

    • @natedavidoff668
      @natedavidoff668 Před 2 lety

    • @natedavidoff668
      @natedavidoff668 Před 2 lety

      the salary caps out at 250k for architects or leads, unless you are some genius and facebook needs you and will pay the 500k not everyone or even close is getting that. If you are doing government contracting the hourly rate is like 70-80 an hour and even then they fire after the contract ends.
