While I loved the old school Nicktoons, Cartoon Network Cartoon Cartoons, and the PBS Kids classics, the Saturday Morning blocks were still relatively strong in the early 00s. I frequently didn't have cable so I grew up with stuff like Static Shock, Jackie Chan, etc... it was all good. Then it just got stale. To be honest animation in the 2000s really took a nosedive after 2005, and we started getting shit like Scooby Doo "Get A Clue", Coconut Fred, Da Boom Crew, etc... blame the federal regulations for this shit. It really killed off creativity and prevented the traditional Saturday morning block from being able to have a shot against Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, or even PBS Kids (all having gone to shit at this point). Then of course there was the 4Kids shitshow... Ultimately federal regulations hindered the creative process; creators, animators, writers, etc weren't going to go to the SMC blocks, and instead take their shot with Cartoon Network, Nick, CZcams, etc... I feel if federal regulations were much looser and stopped fucking with the creative process, SMC blocks would still be alive. RIP Saturday Morning Cartoons. You'll be missed. It's fucking sad seeing shit like "One Magnificent Morning" replace what was once at least decent. Nickelodeon has barely gotten better since the end of the golden era (2004) and while Cartoon Network is at least half decent, nothing will ever replace what was the golden era of 1992-2004. RIP, Saturday Morning Cartoons.
