    My father grew up on a farm. I remember him saying they fed the cows potatoes with their feed. They only had about a dozen cows, just enough for that big family of his. He showed me the basement window the truck would put the pots in. They had to have enough for the winter. That farm life was a wonderful start for him. He lived to 91. I wish I had grown up on a farm.

      This Iowa girl sees cows and pigs all day and I still watch this channel. I think seeing smaller family farms takes me back to a better farm life. Hog confinements and million acre farms have ruined the dream.

    If you have learned half the knowledge your father has,you are a smart man. He is very knowledgeable. I could sit here and listen to him a long time. My father was not very educated, but when it came to farming he had a lot of knowledge. He is retired now. At 87 he is relaxing. Anybody, let your dad know you love them. Stay safe.

    Since I subscribed to you a couple days ago it's coming up with old videos in my newsfeed; honestly your go-pro falling into the wagon, then all the sounds of it going around, then you can hear it shut off and you jumping in to unbury it is hilarious and awesome. I'm glad it survived.
    Also the cow noses are adorable! and hearing your dad talk about what difference the potatoes in their feed makes and why, is really interesting!

    I worked on a dairy farm years ago and we usted put spuds in the silage while clamping, later or spuds and few feet or grass and layer it all, whilst the silage was fermenting it cooked the spuds but they were quiet rubbery when clamp opened

    Yep the smaller spuds are the choking danger. Especially on younger animals. Lost 2 weanling heifers 2 years ago. Spuds are great feed. You need a constant supply though. I know in beefing if your feeding spuds and your supply’s run dry. No matter what meal you feed, your animals will stop gaining weight for few weeks until they adjust to being without. Don’t know if it will effect in dairy with milk yields. Be interesting to know.

    I love your videos Tom and please don't think I'm being a smart arse but the keenan rep once told me you put the silage in the feeder last.
    Cow cake, straw etc first for a more consistent mix. Well done fellas 👍

    When we were milking we always noticed the decrease in milk when the spuds ran out. Plus a reduction in butterfat level.

    Great video like allways👏. For sure cows loves potatoes. I'm a dairy french farmer🍀, I use sometimes potatoes in diet. Little tip, i put in the silage (grass or mais) when i make it. It's like cooking potatoes. starch is more avaible. Of course we have to provide but its farming, it's not allways easy peasy 🤣 and I love this😍🐄🐕🐂. Thanks very much for all👍.     If you know that you do beets or spuds every year it might be good to invest in a chopper for them. You can put the chopper on the telehandler and the cows eat it easier and it gets digested better.
    I am sorry for my bad English :)

    Are you still feeding this ration? If you are I am thinking you saw the improvements you were hoping for. Could you share with me what you saw in your milk production(perhaps some before and after milk tests) and your feelings on animals conditions overall? If not, I understand.     Invest in a spud shifter if you haven't got one already best couple of hundred you will ever spend when you're feeding spuds. Looks like a large spring three quarters inches around four feet long flexible enough to tie a knot in but when you push down on it it's stiff.
