    I started my journey to recovery in 1989 and still wanted to do what I want. It was on Apr.19 1991 when I was at my lowest that I was willing to listen to what they were telling me I need to do to get this. I enjoy being sober more than anything today, I don't wake up with no regrates or guilty feelings and I don't let my emotion that was mostly about my childhood control me. I was always angry and bitter and drugs and alcohol was a means to suppress those feeling, I wish him the best on this journey one day at a time, and remain Grateful at all times.

    Really related to this episode of addiction! It Had me crying and tearing up at work! What Ben was saying is so true , the feelings emotions, numbness, self hatred etc. haven’t had a drink in 7 months, it’ll be a year in August . it’s so true sometimes the addiction talks to you like “one drink, one shot won’t hurt”, but as soon as i take that fake drink or shot in my head , my mind already wants another and then another, and that’s how sometimes i keep myself in check. I also talk to my partner about it, because like you he said you feel like you have to be secretive, not knowing if someone is going to accuse you of drinking or blame you instead of truly helping! But i would love to join a community or have a person to go to about it who has been through it as well and can check in with me, bc not that my partner doesn’t care as deeply as i do, but it’s nice to have someone who truly understand what you’ve been through bc of similar experiences. Anyways all of your podcasts are great, but this one hit home for me! ❤️

    Ben could talk to me all day long.
    Thank you for helping me better understand addiction in our community. I became open to the idea of becoming a foster parent because of your music as an introduction to adults who need help. I can't help the adults with what's hurting them but I can help care for their children while they get better. I am holding my foster baby today, five years after attending a Macklemore concert at the Dallas House of Blues and thinking through the people we will lose if we write off people struggling through addiction. It has helped me choose to see the whole person, not just label the parent of a substance abused infant an addict and assume everything about them.

    Hi Jay, no idea if you will see this, but it would be so inspiring and thoughtful if you would want to see to get Nils Van Der Poel on the show, he won two golds in speed skating at the latest Olympics, gave away his gold medal for a bigger purpose and has now retired. He just has an amazing view of life and with a such bigger meaning, especially as an athlete. Keep going with the show, and thank you for the work and energy you are giving. All love

    Service can become a new addiction. An escape from those we are responsible for. There is a lot of Pastors, sponsors etc who serve others at expense of their loved ones

    • @AnnTsungMD
      @AnnTsungMD Před rokem +1

      You bring up an important point about the potential downside of service and helping others. While serving others can be a fulfilling and meaningful activity, it's important to ensure that we're not neglecting our responsibilities to our loved ones in the process.
      It's essential to find a balance between our commitments to others and our commitments to those closest to us. It's important to communicate openly and honestly with our loved ones about our commitments and responsibilities, and to ensure that we're meeting their needs as well.
      If we find ourselves using service as a means of escaping from our responsibilities, it's important to take a step back and reassess our priorities. We can still serve and help others while ensuring that we're meeting our responsibilities to our loved ones as well.
      Good luck!

    • @joshuatrott193
      @joshuatrott193 Před rokem +1

      @@AnnTsungMD I would rather be private success than public one. I no longer make that mistake. Mainly because the root of why I did what I did has been healed. I put a lot of effort in to partner with God and face my past and present shortcomings.

    • @AnnTsungMD
      @AnnTsungMD Před rokem

      A valid point. While serving others can be a fulfilling and rewarding experience, it's important to maintain a balance and not let it become an unhealthy addiction or escape from our responsibilities to our loved ones. It's important to prioritize our relationships and make sure that we are meeting our responsibilities to those who depend on us. This can be challenging, especially for pastors and sponsors who may feel a strong sense of duty to their congregation or those they are sponsoring, but it's important to remember that we can't effectively serve others if we are neglecting our own well-being and relationships. So, it's crucial to find a healthy balance between serving others and fulfilling our responsibilities to our loved ones.

He has always been authentic and open about that. I’m the female version and for over a decade your music and interviews have helped me. Knowing who I am through God has helped tremendously too! Oh, I’ve been waiting for album since last year!! Just saying, lol. But hey, I’m an 80’s baby too. It's almost easier when you're working towards success without fear of failure than it is to try and maintain success. I like that he accepts that the people who are meant to engage in your art will and that's all that matters. How do you keep listening to hear your calling? It's so hard to keep your calling from being corrupted by what others want your art to be

    • @AnnTsungMD
      @AnnTsungMD Před rokem

      That's a great point! The fear of failure can often hold us back from taking risks and pursuing our goals, but once we achieve success, there can be pressure to maintain that level of success and fear of losing it. However, it's important to remember that failure is a natural part of the learning process, and it's often through our failures that we grow and improve. So, whether we're working towards success or trying to maintain it, it's important to approach our goals with a growth mindset and embrace the learning opportunities that come with both success and failure.

    I do not do drugs, but the negative internal voice is spot on with my depression and anxiety in the past.
    Nothing worked at "curing" my dark internal dialog.
    I had to hit rock bottom and be receptive for God to open my eyes.
    Working on my mental health and choosing to truly follow Jesus has cleared up majority of my deep depression!
    Now I have normal bouts of sadness every so often that I feel, learn from, and move on from quicker.
    I hope everyone can heal and find what sets you free.

    What stays: know which opinions you take in and which you let go off (related to Selena's podcast) and be empathic to others and accept where they are, be honest to myself and seperate my abilities from who I am, so what I achieve or do(n't) doesn't define my worth.
    I struggle with my mental healthy, with choicing, living in a world that is not made for us, with climate change anxiety, with physical problems, with acceptance and with balance, with perfectionism, overeating, a lot of youtube watching instead of doing things (which is actually physically unhealthy, but mentally this kind of videos are good).
    I'm overall very anxious (I think a bit more than average because I have autism spectrum syndrome). And I'm turning 24 this year and I feel live goes too fast and I don't feel 23 at all.
    I hope I helped someone to feel less alone by sharing my story, so it's not only a benefit for myself. Have a nice day!😊❤

    Never heard of Jay Shetty or Micklemore (my sister sent me the link) but i really enjoyed the interview. Micklemore has the lowdown on 12 step recovery... But... Life or death.... and no meditation!!! Step 11... Pages 84-88. Spiritual program of action. Daily program. Can't rest on our laurels ... Well I can't afford to anyway. Stay well. Great communication

    Jay Shetty you need to interview Tamaira Sandifer aka Miss Tee. She’s like the next Tyler Perry. Up and coming genius who is changing the trajectory of the entertainment business.

    I have attempted to meditate many times in my life and prior to this CD the only success I've experienced is with live guided meditation. czcams.com/users/postUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq This is the first CD I've used that cuts through my unmedicated ADHD and enables me to truly relax and experience a quiet and energizing interval. The instructors voice is very soothing and pleasant to listen to. I am easily able to sit successfully through the entire CD, and for quite some time after. I cannot adequately express how tremendously helpful this CD has been on my spiritual journey!! Two thumbs up and 10 stars!

    Never understood why I have depression so often until my grown daughter pointed that it is adhd. There are awesome things I can accomplish/figure out, my mind is always going but my body doesn’t produce dopamine on the regular like most people. So when I don’t take my meds I go right back to being pulled down to depression. On my meds it’s weird to know how people normally feel…not depressed, just normal. I really don’t like taking meds. I eat super healthy, exercise, journal, self care, even have learned how to get my mind to shut down to allow me to sleep and am a glass half full kind of person. I wish I could find something to raise my dopamine levels without meds. Im exhausted but determined to figure it out. I know it’s out there….Do you know anyone that has concurred this without meds?
