- The whole 3DS scene is kinda retro now... right? Even though it may just be from the last decade, the 3DS/2DS feels retro to me because of the 400x200 screen resolution lol. Are you nostalgic for the 3DS?

Are you still playing the 2DS/3DS here in 2023?
Of course, my modded new 3ds XL ist amazing ♥️
Yes
Here
I play my modded new 3ds xl every day and it’s one of the best portable consoles I have.
Yep! Take my DSi XL sometimes on bus journeys
Walmart was blowing these out for 99$ in 2020. It's a great way to play 3ds games, great design. Awesome for home brew and what not.
That's how I got mine! picked up a ton of games for cheap at GameStop, alot of first party too for under $20.
I got mine from Walmart too! I got it around June, and had a lot of fun playing it. It was discontinued later in September, so we got pretty lucky.
I have 3 brand new still 🤔 maybe I should sell 😂
@@moonkey537can I get one for free?
Yea, came to say this. 400 bucks is outrageous 😅
It's crazy how expensive these things are now, I don't think I'll ever sell mine
The bubble will pop in a few months. Best to take advantage of it now
I got two but it’s collecting dust since I use my PC to play 3DS games with 4x resolution
@@AkagiRedSunnot everyone enjoys 3ds games on pc. It's not the same vibe at all, since these were made for a handheld with also two screens, one of which being a touch screen.
@@gamermapper True man. (3)DS games don't feel right on PC.
@@christophervanzettatheyve been saying that for the past 3 years :(
Bought this for 100$ yrs ago from a Walmart sale best steal ever lol
Pretty much any 2ds/3ds console purchased 5-10 years ago is a steal compared to now lol
@@jrob0021I was gonna sell a 2DS from 2015. But I still have it dusting. Because I moved to a 3ds
The "improvements to system stability" thing is just patching out homebrew exploits. The eshop titles still being visible is for people who previously bought them to be able to download them again in the future.
There's another menu you have to go to to download.
i got my first 3ds last year with my own money, having missed on this whole generation of 3ds games when i was younger and being able to play them now is so cool :) missed on all the pokemon games on there too!
I think only reason eshop is still somewhat active still is so you can redownload purchased software and access updates for your games
Fire Emblem Fates was easily my favorite 3DS games. Loved playing all three despite how badly written the story was. Awakening was incredible as well and I loved playing alot of the early 3DS Pokemon games (XY and ORAS)
You got to try out FE echoes
I sucked terribly at Fates Conquest, never finished it. Still loved it though
They had like 5 of those at Toys r us in the closing sale
Gotta love retro game stores, I recently picked up a CIB new 3DS XL for 300, whereas they usually go for much more on eBay. Although the console was factory reset, the cartridges still had data on them. On Mario Kart DS, the old name was still there. Apparently they went by Mr. Pockets or something. Interesting name for sure. Also street pass does still work, but good luck finding people who take their 3DS around with them still.
what does CIB stand for ?
@@playboyrobby5125 complete in box (with manuals and stuff, but not sealed)
It's a collectors term, so it's fine if you don't know it.
I got into the 3DS in 2020 right before they got discontinued.
Picked up the Hylian Shield Edition for $220 on Facebook Marketplace. It included a carrying case, charger and copies of Majora's Mask & Pokemon Sun.
Then I got super lucky and found a New 3DS XL in GameStop for $150. So I'm covered.
the reason it comes with a sd card is because the storage internaly is small so the sd card is their to expand storage, yes I did homebrew my 2ds xl and I have a 128gb sd card in it
I'm glad you did do it and got this thing otherwise we wouldn't have this video. So I'm thankful you went for it
Thanks for making these videos
Back in the day I pretty much grabbed them when they came out for a few runs. I had the DS lite, DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, 3DS XL. And I recently just got the same New 2DS as in this video and that’s the one I play Soul Silver on now
The little flap covering the cart slot does make it look sleeker, but I think it's also prone to failure and just ends up being a little floppy flap flap which isn't as sleek.
At least they tried I guess lol
@@jrob0021I have had two 2ds xls for years of regular play and have had no problems with the game flap.
Also Mariokart 7 is not built in, it was on that micro SD card.
I've never had a single issue with this part.
I have never had a issue. But my is modded so i rarely open it.
Actually not, the flap is hold by a piece of plastic that is flexible enough, even if you rip it apart, the cover can still close the cart compartment shut. It's my favorite 3DS design.
I’m glad I got my BNIB Purple and Silver one for $200 last year. Crazy to think how much these shot up value
When my local Fry's electronics was closing down, they had these for $50 brand new. I grabbed a black/blue and white/orange :)
I worked at frys when they shut down and quit right after they told me it would be closing. Looking back I should’ve tried to see what steals they had
I remember my brother and I making stop motion videos on the camera for the ds, and also screaming into the mic. Good times.
I ordered one of these and got it 2-3 days before it officially released in the US. It served me well until I sat on it and it broke the screen. I ordered a new one and within a week it broke. I tried hodgepodging them together to have 2 working screens but I was over confident and broke both of them because of how impossible they are to repair. I still have all the peices and I guess I need to fix it at some point.
There used to be a CZcams app for the 3DS and I remember using it religiously because I didn’t have a phone at the time. It wasn’t the best, it was slow and the video quality was terrible but it got the job done for me.
There's a homebrew version that's supposed to still work. Haven't tried it myself, I have a phone and stuff lol.
The last few months I’ve bought all the ds and 3ds line up new in box, was expensive but I adore the system. The uk snes new 3ds xl is my fav
9:55 my favorite 3DS game is super Mario 3D land and second best SMB2 but I love both of them
I wish I could get some of the retro games on a Wii or 3DS nowadays but the shops are closed (convenient they’d close right when I finally get my own credit card and stuff)
I still use my 2ds xl till this day. I recently had to change the battery cause it wouldn’t hold charge. Shout out to the modders love yall ❤️
I never had a 2DS/3DS, so I picked up one of these last year at the annual flea market for €25. I homebrewed it and it's absolutely amazing. It renders my DS Lite and DSi basically obsolete since I can download and run everything, and it's somehow even compatible with my decade old R4 flashcard.
The OG r4s were truly the goat of their time in terms of hardware and firmware tbh. Not surprised here. Enjoy though, I've had my old 2ds I've had since 2013-15 I got on a sale and it's been a faithful companion I've homebrewed and hardware modded.
I love the cover on the bottom. There was several times on New 3ds XL, because the cart is exposed on the bottom, i fat fingered the cartridge and pushed it which shuts your game down.
I remember when these were 100 bucks a pop at Walmart and I bought 2 for 80 each. Still have em new in box somewhere. Rare W
man i remember when 2ds and new 2ds were 75-99$ 400 is crazyy thats a whole rog ally today
Wednesday January 10th, 2024
I got my Nintendo 2DS XL along with a physical copy of Pokémon Ultra Moon on Monday November 20th, 2017. Also, I got a physical copy of Mario Kart 7 on Sunday December 25th, 2011 and I still own them.
Crazy how time flies and the market changes. I bought one in early 2020 and this exact bundles costed 79.99
I got one of these for Christmas 4 years ago when my New 3DS XL's touch screen started being wonky. Now they old lol it's so weird to think about.
I've still got my New 3DS XL blue colour. It's in mint condition. My fav game is resident evil revelations for the 3DS XL showcased what it could do in terms of power!
I just bought a used new 3ds xl today for 160 bucks. I have an old 2ds that I homebrewed but you can’t play a bunch of the games on it so I was itching to upgrade. Can’t wait.
For anyone wondering, you need a copy of Mariokart 7 for the super easy home brew.
Me and my friend actually modded our 3ds consoles and we played alot on them this year because I came across a video explaining how to mod it. That console was literally my childhood and I made it even better.
oh and another reason theirs a cover for the game card slow is handy as it prevents the game card from comming out when its dropped
I was playing my modded 2DS but recently unmodded it and sold the console along with all physical games I had for a Nintendo Switch I definitely don’t regret that decision. They should also include at least a 16GB SD card with the Switch.
Best video of the year! Should be viral
I’ve had one of these but have since sold it. It’s nice to play 3ds games with for $99 with MK7, but the prices they go for now I’d just say it’s better to region swap a new 3ds LL.
I bought this exact console 2 or 3 years ago for 99 bucks. I have hundreds of hours on it with Monster Hunter 4u, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 7, Pokemon Sun... So many great games
New 3ds xl didn't have that cartridge cover and I had a sky3ds cart where you put games on and you change game with a button on the cartridge. I always pushed that button by accident so my game play got fucked up. Sometimes I played for hours without saving
I got that back in 2019 for Christmas and that was my first gaming device
I grew up on the og gameboy, gbc, and gba. I then stopped using Nintendo consoles for a while. In my early 20s the 3Ds came out and I got one. I would watch dinosaur office on my breaks and play Ocarina of Time. Great memories.
This was $100 clearance from Walmart when they got discontinued. Much better price
Someone def made money off of you this time lol
I kind of wish they just used the original 2ds form factor for the new 2ds. That one was my favorite form factor of the 3ds' but it lacked the power of the new 3ds models.
I still have my OG DS and it’s still working.
I have one of these and im happy that flap exists.
When me and my sister rode the bus her games would get ejected out of her 3ds xl all the time because the cartridge was exposed 😂
$400+ is crazy Jacob...
I always wanted one, but didn't have money for it as a kid and my parents got a PSP. Now I have the Switch, but this still looks great and fun.
I paid about £130 UK for a mint boxed one. Bargain for that price. Keep it in a cupboard until I'm really really bored 😂
I remember going to a museum with my school and taking pictures with my 3ds
Lol just picked a 2DS up for $60 on marketplace last month and immediately homebrewed it
Hey @jacob r would you be interested in a snes edition 3ds xl ? Mint condition with box .
I bought one on facebook, one year ago, no box, mint condition. For 30
$30? That’s wild
Cocaine's a hell of a drug 😂
I just got a New Nintendo 3DS XL the other day in very very good condition and modded it, one of the best decisions especially since I kinda missed the whole 3DS generation, and never owned one before
Nice 👍 how long did it take you to mod? I modded my 2ds a year or so ago and it took less than 30 min
@@jrob0021 Yeah very quick and simple to mod for the most part, took me about 45 min. Definitely recommend to anyone looking into modding their 3DS 🫡
@@jrob0021i modded mine earlier this year and took me just under an hour
noway i was thinking about buying one of these and then this video comes up
I’m glad that I wasn’t the only one trying to colour in the entire pictochat box
I still have my old 3DS XL. The back cameras don’t work but everything else works great
It's sad seeing someone open this now and not have access to all the wonderful eshop stuff that was available just a year ago. Its going to get worse after March. Yes I'm aware of homebrewing but its not the same. Its crazy how much was lost.
hey i never had a 3ds is it still worth buying? i grew up with the game boy advanced sp and nintendo ds
Mine has a bloated battery and one of the screws is stripped and since its in a really tiny hole that no power tool can fit into theres no way to get it out. Basically I have a DS-shaped pipebomb just sitting in my bedroom
Me too, although I'm scared to check
I thought the 2DS was the one that was fixed in place and you couldn't fold it closed, it was just a giant 2 screen pancake of sadness (which flopped miserably and I bought one new from K-Mart for like $50 years ago). Funnily enough I still have my original DS first gen after all these years and I haven't charged it since probably 2014 but it sill turns on every time, granted I only play it for like a minute and put it back in the case but I still can't believe its on the same charge lol
The og 2ds IS a pancake. This is a newer model called the 2ds xl
i have one i'm looking at buying on marketplace for $80 with a broken top screen, and a brand new screen is 30 bucks so it seems like a great deal
I liked the original wedge 2ds, wish that had got a “new” variant.
That’s the one I bought back in the day. Was like $80 lol
Same. It was the most comfortable and durable of the 3DS family.
i have a dsi xl but the top screen is broken and both the shoulder buttons are broken rip
Jacob when I bought my 2ds xl i did indeed come with a charger!
3ds and 2ds were great consoles. Its sad but nothing lasts forever
All the newer versions were way too expensive so I literally only have the OG versions of the 2DS and 3DS. But they are still great tho
I got the same exact one for Christmas last year.
This was my first ever console that was brand new
I bought it used and it worked great, not sure why you had to go high on the price
Same, I got a CIB new 3DS XL for 300 recently. It was used, but works perfectly
Plastic screen is prone to damage
yeah i got new 2ds xl pokeball edition perfect condition for 130 lol
Unfortunately... Someone left parental control active, but I was able to get it off from the system. It wasn't reset to factory default. At least there was no nintendo network ID linked, but if it was... just format the system, that's all.
10:18 they are like 80$ today in sweden. I got my 3ds xl for 50$ same with my wii u. That one too for 50$
I got a 2ds and the wii u at the right moment just before the crazy spikes, as I predicted.
I have one just like that. Didn't come with Mario Kart 7 but I already had that so it's fine. The cartridge reader in it doesn't work so good now, good thing I dumped and installed my DS and 3DS games to it already!
I regret selling my new 3ds xl. I swapped the shell and it had red and white color. Needed money so bad in 2021. Many 3ds games I have yet to finish.
Streetpass still works but it won't be of any use because you need to pass by another console in the 3DS family of systems.
Yup, streetpass isn't centralized so it will always work, you just need to be near someone else who is also using it.
I've been wanting a 2ds XL to replace my old Toast 2ds, but holy crap they are so expensive 😭
I was able to snag a galaxy purple 3ds xl for like 150 back back in the summer. Love it. Bought a "totally legal" DS multicart from Temu, it has like every ds game on it. 😅
Pls lmk what the name of the item? I recently got a 3ds xl and would love to play hundreds of games without modding it
@@sandraibarra9054search for R4 cards, but you can only play DS games (not 3ds) with it
i bought that exact same color and model back in 2021 and it was NOT 400$
inflation is insane
Back in early 2019 I found a New 3DS XL at a consignment sale for $70. Best purchase I’ve ever made.
I got a new 3ds ll in almost pristine condition for 180 bucks and put a secondhand US motherboard into it. Worth it!
I’m so confused I have one of these I got it recently as a matter of fact I ordered Wii sports from GameStop for my Wii and they sent me the 2DS XL I don’t know why they did, but when I looked at retail value it was only $130 on GameStop so why is it like $400 here I have the exact one he has so how did it go up in value? and did I get lucky they sent me the 2DS XL instead of Wii sports it it did go up in value
My little brother bought one about 2 years ego when it was on sale at a local toys store for less than a 100.
2DS xl was my favourite console, I regret selling it and upgrading to a New 3DS XL
I still have mine. Glad i never got rid of it.
whenever i boot up my new 2ds xl, it says 3ds. is that normal
It's strange to think the original ds is retro. I'm 22 and I feel so old 😅
China Town wars on the ds was legendary. 12 year old me will never forget opening the briefcase with the touch screen to sell my drugs.
I have the same one in green, still sealed in the shipping box, & I bought it for 99€.
0:53 here’s the time stamp for those wanting the unboxing
These sell for around £100 in the UK. more if its completely unopened and still in the box. I wouldnt pay £400 not even for a New 3DS XL.
I bought like 10 of these from walmart when they announced the discontinuation
When I was 10 I used to browse the internet on my 3ds when I should have been asleep, good times...
I got the galaxy one off on eBay out of box in an auction for like 250
animal crossing new leaf was my fave 3ds game, with fire emblem fates being close second (love the QoL, story is meh). but yes ds lite era was so fun just filling the entire pictochat box w rainbow ink, ds download play mario kart ds, og nintendogs c: good times...
I bought mine brand new from Best Buy right before they pulled them from shelves. One of the best purchases I've ever made.
I Have My New Nintendo 2DS XL But The Game Card Is Not Working.
In 2017 I bought one for $90 on Facebook marketplace I thought I overpaid. I glad I bought it now and my new 3ds xl bought it new.
I paid 120$ for this thinking it will go up in value and I was right. This is still one of the beat investments I have ever made (this was around 2019)
Yeah I have 2x Minecraft Creeper Editions from Japan and 1x PokeBall edition from Japan, all 3 with their boxes, modded to USA region and hshop. Just waiting to sell them here soon
Have the same model with Mario Kart 7 included. Personally I enjoy the 2ds systems a lot more than the 3ds systems. There were also some really good games from this era of Nintendo.
Why do you prefer the 2DS?
2DS Xl is so much better than 3DS
