I saw many kinds of other Murfy Bed designs but this one is the pretty unique and simple. I luv it.
I've been looking for something like this forever. Great job
Just what we were looking for, SO CREATIVE!!! Thank you!!
Just got the plans. I will have a great time with this. Looks easy!
Doug Webb thanks. Let me know of you have any questions or any suggestions!
I thought you were gonna show us how you made it in THIS video! Was so excited!
I show you in this video: czcams.com/video/vh5Na2x-BL4/video.html
Great idea, especially the counterbalance.
This is awesome!!! I'd like the plans.
Plans here: beddeskplans.com/
Nicely done!
Hi there, may I know what wood and paint I will be using if I purchased the plan. Thank you
This is so amazing!
Great design
Great project
Love the design and I'm very keen to find out how you did it. I am currently looking at buying a shop model and it would cost $3000+ so having seen this idea, I'm sure I have the skills to set about a home mad version
Looks great! Would love to learn how to do this.
This is great. Just moved into 1350 Sq ft house from 2200 Sq ft. looking for a way to take up less space. Newly retired, with wife and dog and many friends want to visit. Trying to combination of murphy bed or trundle to give me two singles or one double combo. I would like to see plans to see if they could be adapted.
Great video.
Love This! Not handy at all, but feel this might be something I could do! Love more info and agree re multifunctional ideas
it's not terribly difficult if you break it up into parts. have you watched the build video?
Can you post the dimensions as I am working with 100" wall to wall. As the end shelves would be great, I am wanting to know if I would have to modify the cabinet size for the install.
would i be able to modify this by taking out the shelves?
With this build could I mount a 27 inch monitor using a wall mount kit on the back end of this without damaging it? And what is the typical weight capacity? I'm looking at building something similiar into an RV that also needs to be a home office as well.
Great questions! for sure you could mount a monitor above the desk. it will support 2 grown adults without any worries, not sure the actual capacity.I think this would work really well for you.
I'm think of making a single (twin) version of this, with drawers on the bottom (and hinges lifted accordingly). Could your plans be modified for this? Do you see any major obstacle?
Fr. John Brown S.J. Making Into a twin is easy, the drawers along the bottom pose a challenge. Send me a pm with your contact info and we can work through it
Great idea. Wondering what it would cost me to build if I had the wood, I get all kinds of cabinet grade ply free.
THanks for figuring out the logistics of this and engineering it.
If you have the wood already it will probably cost $20 to fine the remaining hardware. All available at home depot off the shelf
Not an overly elaborate looking piece of furniture yet obviously extremely functional and I absolutely LOVED that you can use a regular mattress.... Where do you live?? Can I hire you??? I'm not talented... :(
hahaa, thanks. I live in the middle of nowhere...
awesome. wish i was that handy.
Love this simple solution :) I'm considering this but with the bed spun 90 degrees, i.e so it would be taller when stowed. I'd like to try it with a dual monitor/laptop setup which raises the question of whether the hanging desk would be off balance with the weight of the screens, however I suppose the screens could be 'wall mounted' to the bed rather than on the desk? The only other bit that scares me is if a guest decides to put their own bed down, doesn't unlock the desk and tips everything on the floor, it would be nice to secure the bed upright with a single bolt each side, so that its impossible to lower the bed without unlocking the desk :)
There are locks on the bed as well as the desk. You could definitely mount the screens to the bed, and you could even run the cables inside the structure of the bed so they are hidden. the vertical orientation can be done, but it would be much heavier and more difficult to put away. sorry for the late reply!
The glass of liquid and $1,500+ MacBook wobbling as you lower it down gave me PTSD
this is Canada, a MBP isn't $1500...
TheHowtoDad m.bestbuy.ca/defaultpage.aspx?lang=en#/m/category.aspx?cid=26225 Best Buy Canada, MacBook Pro $1,549 lol.
That's not the point of the comment though. Just being funny about the water next to the laptop.
トロール Z did you check the price on the 15"? Can't edit videos on a 13 very well
TheHowtoDad The 15" are all above $2,000.
You could also plug a 13" into an external monitor.
All in all your replies are confusing. First you say MacBooks aren't $1500 in Canada, then you seem to suggest 15" is possibly cheaper?
The initial comment was about water being next to technology on that wobbly surface. It could be a $200 laptop for all I care, the point of the comment was being humorous about water next to electronics
トロール Z sorry to confuse... Macs are super pricy in canada. A fully speced 15 map is over 3k here.
Hi would like to know if the desk of your plan can fit in a 17" screen monitor?
you could certainly mount the monitor to the bed. I don't think there would be enough room on the desk with bed lowered to accommodate that size of monitor.
Hello, can help me to get the plans for this bed, I wanna build one. Thanks for your time.
Sure, head to Beddeskplans.com they are available there
What's the clearance from the desk top to the bed bottom? Curious if my iMac would be able to make it under there.
Daniel Short I have seen someone mount an iMac to the wall of the bed, above the desk, but it will not fit under the bed if you put the iMac on the desk
I bought the plans do you have a video on how to assemble it. thank you
I have plans to make a video that goes step by step on how to build the unit. Right now the only one I have built is the prototype.
Hey. I think it is brilliant. I would like to know how did build this. Did you followed a blueprint?
I built this as a prototype. plans are available at beddeskplans.com. Hope you have fun with the build!
Hi, how did you build the stay in desk? I’m building a Murphy bed and would like the desk to stay like yours. Thanks
Hi Daniel, thanks for the question. You can download the plans for this bed at Beddeskplans.com. I am also making a how to video to show the process. Check my channel for the videos
Awesome!! Yes, please let me know how I can get the plans. Thank you
The442nd the plans are available at beddeskplans.com
counterweight is a great idea. everyone else uses pistons or springs
SSuperCuriouss it works pretty well. Spring and pistons work better. The idea was to make it as simple as possible. I'm happy with it
Beautiful creation! Please point me in the right direction.
Hi Blake, I've got the plans now...both metric and imperial. The problem I had was the web contact form wouldn't send my enquiry, I wonder if it was because I use Opera browser? Anyhow everything's good now and the plans are great!.
I'll download opera and give it a shot. thanks for the info!
This is great. Thank you. Can you design something similar for an adjustable height sit / stand desk?
Claudine you'd like a hidden bed with a desk that converts between a sit and stand desk? That is a tall order. I'll do some thinking
That would be a tall order!! What I mean is converting a normal desk to a standing desk with that clever weighted, no spill mechanism thingie. So it would need something that enables you to raise the keyboard and the monitor without having to use brute strength to lift the monitor up and onto a raised platform. My raised platform is a couple of plastic boxes. My desk is fixed to the wall so there's no possibility of getting mechanical rising legs or such like. You'd be onto something if you came up with a clever desk converter. Thank you for replying to me.
Claudine send me an email through my website Beddeskplans.com I have a few ideas on how to do this
Hello, please direct me to where I can purchase the plans for the bed. Thank you
www.beddeskplans.com/
Thats iitt ...this is amazing ..im stealing you !!!,youre my new Dad ! :D
Hi, I purchased the Hidden Desk Bed plans. I have a couple of questions. How do I attach the counter weights and how much do I use? I've never used a router, so I can I cut the boards making up the bed box panels 1/4 inch less, and glue and screw in place?
Why are the bottom upper outer panel notched out?
Thanks, Deborah
The weights are attached to the back panel of the bed and secured to the structure of the bed. How it is attached depends on what you use. instead of routering the shelves I would suggest using shelf brackets or angle brackets. Also you don't have to notch the bottom or the top panel of the shelves, that was just me trying to be fancy... Hope that clears things up!
I hope a queen plan is available soon.
Are the side shelves mandatory for this build? I'm looking for approximately the same thing that you built for a 5 year old child so a lower table and no shelves and smaller width as there isn't much space to work with. Please answer. Thanks
GoldenFlower the shelves are not necessary, but you will need something on the side to support the bed. It will not be possible for your 5 year old to raise and lower the bed, it will be too heavy for them
I would love to learn how to build that bed
Another great tip (i think) is to base you measurements on IKEA beds/madrases . IKEA is world wide, they are good madrases. Price/quality make sense. You could provide links to madrases / specific product in the different countries- You can go to individual IKEAs (website) to see all specs. size/weight ect. Counties to target i EU should be Germany, Great Britain. Holland, Denmark. The 2 first because they are huge countries. The last two because theres ALOT of focus on Tiny living- Also non EU..Australia! ALOT of tiny living movements there! (container homes is very big there)...
Really cool! Is it possible to make the width of the desk wider?
I think you're asking if the desk could be deeper? All of the dimensions are related to each other. If you change one you will need to change at least 3 others. Short answer is no, long answer is maybe.
very nice where can i find plans can it handle a king size bed
eric schultz the plans are available at beddeskplans.com
Nice bed I would buy one
This would suit our daughter who is still at home. My husband and I could do this and it would be a great space saver for our girl. Please let me know how to get the plans. Thank you.
Yes please where do i get plans ...im thinking this could be good for a house bus....do u have plans for a murhy bed/ sofa?
Plans are available from BedDeskPlans.com
You're not the first person to ask about the sofa...I guess I will have to come up with one of those.
You can get the plans at beddeskplans.com
I seriously need this but am partially disabled with literally zero skills! Ball park what someone might charge me to build this? Where would I get directions for them? Incredible job sir! I am very impressed! Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!
I'm not sure. I can tell you the materials will cost around $300, and would likely take 10hours to complete the build.
Hey "Dad" ;) Just bought the plans. I could be pretty awesome of you did the plans for EU (most of EU) Sizing. Beds madrases (cm) are 90x200 - 140x200 - 160x200. Ply wood sheets are always 122x244 cm in EU
Bo Egestroem that's a great idea! I'll talk to my drafter and ask if he can do that. in the mean time, you should be able do the concession. good luck with the build and thanks for the purchase!
Im planning to do the build in a month or so from now. Let me know if your drafter will do the "dirty work" for me :)
Can I use the plans to build the bed but omit the shelving on the sides? I need to put something on the sides for clothing, drawers and wardrobe.
Tom Garrett you can omit the shelves, but you will need the structure on the sides to support the bed pivot. Wardrobes without shelves would work
TheHowtoDad, Great Thanks. Can it be done using hand-held tools, no table saw, radial saw, or chop saw? How much time should a novice budget?
well, in theory, anything can be done with hand tools. At a minimum you will need a skill saw. I would recommend using a skill saw and a jigsaw.
Great DIY. Would like link to plans.
you can get the plans here: beddeskplans.com/
This is great. I have been looking for something similar for 2 years but just don't have the $2K to get one. I have a very small apartment and planning on moving into an even smaller 4-500 sf so I am serious about this.
PALEOALLEN that is a small apartment! If you'd like the plans you can get them at beddeskplans.com
Do u have building plans for this
absolutely! HTTPS://www.beddeskplans.com
is this for a queen size mattress? fantastic job btw and ty for posting!
faerie13 this one is a full {double} I also have plans for a twin. I'm working on queen plans
@@TheHowtoDad have you completed Queen size plans?
Do you have the queen size plans yet?
Ron Poutney no. Not yet
Definitely need to put one in a room I am making because the desk doesn’t fit with the bed now I see 2 in one and it’s become a necessity
Congratulations! Is it possible to fold up the desk as well?
sure, but it wouldn't same you any space...
TheHowtoDad thank you. Can you secure it without the two shelves on the sides? Could you provide a plan with the plans please?
johndee759 that is possible. you would have to build a frame around the bed in place of the shelves, and secure that frame to the wall.
TheHowtoDad thank you for your prompt response. I am looking for a reverse Murphy bed solution that is frameless. There is only a base. The company Resource Furniture was able to build this。
Please tell me how to build this step by step
sure! czcams.com/video/vh5Na2x-BL4/video.html
@@TheHowtoDad Iv been watching the whole series. Thank you for doing this for us!! I greatly appreciate you!!
Hi, I'd like to take the next step and build one of my own. Can you point me in the right direction please. Thanks
Great! head to beddeskplans.com
Subscribed in hopes you do a DIY vid. But maybe you could point me in the right direction in the meantime. Do you have plans for it? Maybe a parts list or just a general idea what you used?
Im hoping to put together a video soon. I appreciate the sub! Plans here: beddeskplans.com/
If I do not have any woodworking tools what would be the minimum tools I would need to build this bed?
Great question! Hammer, drill, jigsaw, circular saw that's about the minimum. Those are some tools thst if you don't have now, you should get anyhow.
czcams.com/video/vh5Na2x-BL4/video.html this will give you an idea of what you need.
Absolutely! Send me directions! :D

The webstore to order the plans does not seem to work. Anybody have the working link
I will look into this and get back to you. Sorry about the inconvenience
Hi Richard, I just tried, seemed to work ok. Can you tell me what trouble you ran into?
dude, that bed looks amazing. I am in the middle of building my own murphy bed from scratch too, but mine look a lot more ghetto than yours.
Deric Chen hope your build turns out. Maybe you should have downloaded my plans

I need the plans please!

Very cool send me the plans please
I have a couple questions. I went to the link for the plans, but wasn't able to get my questions answered without purchasing the plans.
What's the height of the object you can leave on the desk?
Proportions of the desk?
Size of the bed, it looks like a queen?
How long did it take to build, and what was the estimated cost of materials?
Trevor Fields max height 9 inches, desk is 20x74 inches, double mattress, material costs would be less than $400 and depend mostly on the type of plywood you choose. Build time certainly veries depending on experience. Hope that answers your questions.
Can the desk be modified to a depth of 24"? 20" is a little narrow.
Daniel Nip you would be able to modify the desk, but you would also need to change the pivot point of the bed, and the length of the bed leg/desk support. So yes it could be done. Easily done? Not really. I can say the desk is an ok depth, but we all have our preferences.
Well, I don't want to complicate too much. I suppose the width of the bookcase on either side can be modified to fit the room and this can accept a double mattress or a twin?
Daniel Nip the book cases can easily be adjusted. It uses a double mattress
Why do I get a warning when I click on the link for the plans?
What does the warning say?
@@TheHowtoDad Same problem when I click link: "This Connection Is Not Private" This website may be impersonating "beddeskplans.com" to steal your personal or financial information. You should go back to the previous page.
why would you have to pay for plans?
Madeline Brigit thanks for your question. There is no need to pay for the plans if you want to figure out how to build the bed all on your own. Good luck with your build!
I love you bed/desk design and have tried to contact you via your web page contact form but it wont send. Are the plans still available?
Yes, plans are still available. My email is hiddenbeddesk@gmail.com I'll look at what's going on with the site
seems to be working ok, what was the problem you ran into?
so what I want
awesome and cheaper
Azeddine FEDDAOUI much cheaper!

I plan on putting together a how to video, it's a tall order, so stay tuned
I am doing this and I don't even own a desk
subbed. me rikey
You do too much talking & showing your self, than the actual bed & desk building. Not worth subscribing! Also, you used up the allotted ahh’s & uhm’s (which seems 2b pandemic).
Super special comment, thanks for the feedback. I'll keep an eye on my colloquial crutch quotas in the future. I will be sure to watch your videos for inspiration
