So fun story:
I was sailing back to my main base at night when a serpent attack. "Cool," I think, because trophies and scales and meat are never bad. So I bait it to shore, harpoon it, and drag it to shore . . . right in the middle of some Graydwarves who immediately attack . . . the Serpent.
As more Graydwarves run out of the woods I book it: I'm near an old mining base that I can shelter in. Except that the graydwarves are ignored me and attacking the serpent I'm still dragging behind me, and soon enough they're joined by boars and necks, all going after this poor creature. It's trying as hard as it can to get back into the water while being swarmed by the forces of nature while I'm just sitting there watching the show in disbelief.
Once the poor thing finally dies I go clean up the mess, collect my loot, and continue on my merry way home :D
haha thats an amazing story thanks for watching and sharing. 👍
Hilarious
That's my favorite way to deal with serpents in single player.
that’s interesting!! i understand different enemies belong to different “factions” that determine who will attack who. i guess all the forest ones hate the only ocean creature serpents!
Ah yes, revenge
The easiest way to find sea serpents is to play with me. They lurk about 100 feet offshore waiting for me to even think about getting in a boat. No idea how I acquired this curse but it makes finding top tier food a breeze! :P
XD hahaha
I didn’t know about serpents cause I started yesterday and I got on a raft and sailed to a new island with 3 trips and not once did I encounter one maybe us playing together will balance it out 😂
Sometimes I wonder if being cursed is an actual mechanic. I always play with couple of friends and each one of us is always hunted by different mob. I'm always hunted by Trolls, my bro is always targeted by wolfs, and our friend is always hunted by mosquitos... And it's like nobody other than me will come across any trolls when I always meet 2 stars, etc.
@@noxineamv2158 bro I didn’t even know there were mosquitoes lmao
@@thatguywithquarters454 there are in the plains biome 😂 but they are called deathsquitos? I think? But yeah they are annoying as shit
I gatta say i love sailing and exploring the seas in this game
i hope they come up with a huge ocean update to make it more dangerous, mysterious and and rewarding
Same
Pretty sure "ships and the sea" is the next major update after Mistlands. Might be wrong tho
What would be awesome is treasure hunt maps like in Red Dead Redemption 2.
@@bofa722you were wrong :(
@@TopazzGaming fucking tragic. It's next after Ashlands tho, trust me bro ( i will get it right this time)
Regarding the "Turtles" Leviathans, once it screams and starts sinking, if you log out and back in, it resets its state, meaning you can farm all Barnacles on the Turtle if you just log out and back in every time it screams, giving you access to very Important gear, very easily :D
Excellent tip. I’ve been using this a lot lately.
Whats the point of abusing things like this when playing a game. You might as well just use dev commands and spawn in the chitin if youre going to do this.
@@myusernameisthisduh not the same thing buddy
@@SacaryBagna. it's exactly the same thing. If you're gonna cheat to get it all, then just spawn it and save the time. If you think otherwise, just look at the end result.
@@myusernameisthisduh using a bug and literally cheating with dev commands are different. There are different levels of cheating. Abusing a bug is pretty low on that scale. Using dev commands are as cheaty as it gets.
best ocean/serpent/fishing video I have seen, thanks
Aw thanks dude, very nice of you to say. You’re welcome. Glad you liked it 👍
Here's another sailing tip. If the wind is not blowing in your direction simply switch to reverse. You can pick up quite a bit of speed in reverse. Then when you get to somewhere where the wind is in your favour, just switch back again.
👍
Thanks, I’ve just started killing serpents at land with my friend and I use my hook to get them on land so I have serpent trophy, 17 serpent scaled and 12+ serpent meat, we are thinking about serpent shield and we’ll definitely make serpent stew.
Awesome dude. Sounds great. Gl with that. Thanks for watching.
I love this game, the music is so relaxing and the envoronments/biomes are so cool as well as the monsters that inhabit them! But god is it horrible for someone with a fear of the ocean like me, have so much anxiety when traveling the ocean expecting a monster to attack and lose everything lol
a little tip on fishing, u can walk backwards and drag the fish out of the water then press e to collect it, losing a lot less stam. also u can right click as the fish is going for the hook for a guaranteed catch.
nice, ty for watching
An interesting little tip too is that you can build workshops along shorelines and on small islands so you can do drive by repairs of your ships without having to stop.
Great video, helped me understand a few of the basics a bit better, and the fishing part was completely new to me.
The first time I made a raft, I got killed by a serpent. Hadn't even made a bow yet, and I didn't even know about the wind direction, so I basically just got stuck in the ocean and killed.
The second time I encountered one was like 50 days later; I was in a Karve and I led it to shore where it fell to a barrage of arrows.
Next time I'm going to have a harpoon with me, thanks to this guide.
a very underrated video. thanks for the vid it was excellent and gave all the information i could need.
Aw thanks, I'm glad you found it useful.
I'm many hours in and still learned new things, thank you! Very helpful.
Great to hear! You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
I'm only 76 hours into this game. So far, I've only beaten Eikthyr, the deer boss. The next challenge will be The Elder. Recently, I had to construct a canal between my lake and the ocean because I built my permanent home in a meadow that happened to be by the ocean. I was fortunate to have a friend to assist me in digging the canal, which was a short one, and the process only took us less than three hours. If it were just me, I would have taken the entire day to complete it. Now that I have begun sailing a lot out to sea through the canal which my friend and I worked on, we recently sailed north only to find a trader out of the blue. On the other hand, my friend has yet to locate any traders in his world.
Nice. Hope you're enjoying the game. Thanks for watching.

Damn im 33 h deep and after 4 swamp i cant find location for 3rd boss🤣 having blast solo
@@viktor1master Just keep looking, it gets monotonous but you’ll find it. Use a fully upgraded iron mase, and a fully upgraded Iron tower shield. Also have fully upgraded iron armor, and a very high club skill of around 70. You easily conquer the third boss in no time.
@@coltonmorrison4616 I mean you don't need all that, just a two handed hammer like a level 4 stagbreaker or level 2 iron sledge, and a poison resistance mead.... then climb up somewhere high like on top of the boss summon skull
Or get like 100 frost arrows and sit in a tree somewhere where he can't even poison you... it'll take a few minutes but less time than it would take to farm to level 70 in clubs
Best way to get fish is live near a shore and check the coastline after a storm. They jump to their death onto the land *constantly*. The fish which spawn in ice caves also usually jump out the water on the corners and die before you even get to them.
I crafted my Serpent shield quite late so already had a maxed Silver shield by then.
That said however I still use it as a backup for death runs and also when I go fishing/sailing around near base. It gets displayed along with all my other unused/old gear on item hooks :D
Nice, yeh it does look so cool. Ty for watching.
I had no idea that leviathan was a turtle. I pulled up on one my first trip out on the raft, and wanted to return shortly after but the island was not on my map but the area where it was, is cleared. Now i know and will be searching for these!
Great vid man. Thank you!

Great Video 👍
Thanks for watching dude. Glad you liked it.👍
Thanks for the video. Good info.
you're welcome
Great vid mate
Thanks dude.
It would be nice if they added some more stuff to the sea for late game because once the sea serpent isn’t an issue it becomes a little boring since you are no longer worried about anything as long as your boat health is high perhaps they put another mini boss in the sea near the outer rim that’s used for end game stuff and so you don’t get slapped up early by it at the start of the game by having it further out or perhaps a sea boss
Small correction, but you don't actually travel faster with the wind directly behind your boat. It's fastest when the wind is blowing in the brightest yellow part of the circle. The darker the area, the slower you go, basically. This actually mimicks how actual sailboats work in real life. 👍
I think that whilst in game you are right on actual ships with square sails I think that it is faster when the wind is behind
@@RogueCannon. Nope In real life SailBoats are the fastest whenthere is heavy sideboards wind. notice as they lift out of the water the more the wind pushes it to the side.
@@kubsinocz9512But he's talking about ships with square sails. You are talking about modern sailboats which have entirely different layout and rigging. Im pretty sure that the old ships with square sail (like in valheim) were faster with wind from the back or at a slight angle from the back
@@Dean-nq2sy brother its not about the sails or the rigging, its the effect of the keel which pushes the ship forwarrd instead of sideways :) but as you say in valheim these ships are old have very small keels.
@@kubsinocz9512 yes ships without keel = ships with square sails, roughly historically.
The harpoon with friends is much more fun and kinda exploitable (when you use pvp mode on), you literally can drag your friend with you, especially useful when he is coming with a fully loaded cart - thats make traveling much more faster and easier
True XD
What if you harpoon a friend with a cart and jump into a boat and start sailing along a river? *SPEED*
This video just showed me how little I still know about Valheim damn!

Holy crap I've been playing and I haven't scratched the surface of this game. But I am enjoying it.
Nice. Hope you enjoy the game. Thanks for watching.
I remenber the first time i see a serpent; i was exploring on the raft will my friend was farming, on the vocal we were jocking about sea monster in the game (new player a this time); a raft in a sea storm, an other jock about the monster cause it would be the "best moment" well the serpent show up; my friend didn't even trust me until i show him the screenshot
Hahaha that’s amazing thanks for sharing 😂

I heard in the roadmap they plan to make ocean biome more playable.
Imagine they make a new fish ressource only fhishible in ocean to make special meals, really cool.
Imagine they make like gostships with a few draugr (new variant) on it, with high tier loot, really cool.
Imagine they make new threats aside the serpents, i don't know what they can bring us (maybe aggressive birds idk) but this idea seems pretty cool.
Well the ocean is a vast waste if they don't add more to it, could have more islands with special treasures to dig up, add more mobs out there, maybe add coral reefs and make super cool coral armor and weapons, also fishing in the ocean biome would have more fish for fishing and make special meals with it. Lots to do with an ocean.
love how you just call your own weird ideas "really cool"
Absolutely love sailing in this game. Ships are quick but not super fast so you can enjoy the journey and not have it feel too tedious. I just blast Sea Shanty 2 from Runescape every time I set out on a boat.
well done
Thank you, thanks for watching
nice video, I love your basics guides, this might need a renewal for the new mechanics as fishing is now a skill that can be mastered
re: - fishing,
the "Size" of the fish doesn't matter a tuna will give the same amount of fish as a perch despite being a lot "bigger" It's the stars that increase the drops - a 1-star Perch will give more fish than a no-star tuna or troll fish
its worth noting that fish are no use until you hit the bronze age (even if you find the trader in your first forest) as they require a pot to turn fish into raw fish - this can be cooked on any cooker
also, if you don't find the trader, I think you can rarely get the fishing rod in a frost cave (but don't quote me on this)
Hopefully at some point maybe the ocean will get a update to make it a more fun to explore since it doesn’t have much going on
Aaaahh just imagine a boss in the ocean. Kraken would make sense.
Would be so good 😊
There are Kraken mods that can be intense
Will you do a new Mistland update Oceans guide video?
You forgot one other thing the serpent shield is good for: It looks absolutely spiffy hanging on your wall using a vertical item stand. ;)
TRUE
as of the most recent updates, serpent meat can only be cooked on an iron cooking rack as well as lok meat.
true
So, what mod let ya cook the serpent meat on a regular cook station?
I have a few mods installed including a mod that lets me overclock ships with surtling cores (and I may have turned the config up to make them VERY fast). I have only seen one serpent so far but man that poor guy got hooked by my harpoon and went for the ride of his life, then I hit a huge wave and flipped my ship.
lol. sounds cool
Super useful and good video. Thanks for putting it together - the only thing I sat here thought could be added, would be the beginners tips for building a boat-stop aka harbor. It's been an issue when entering the ocean and banking a shore, that the ship gets destroyed. Of course it mostly spawns a container with the stuff in it, or have the materials sink to the bottom. But would love your thoughts and tips on this :)
Thanks, glad you liked it. I’ll have a think about your suggestion.
I've beat all bosses in the game and just watched this for some pass time in the morning. I thought serpent scales was a joke when he Said it but I guess not x_x I'll go get my harpoon now
Ty
Yw. Yw for watching
the really need to add some more stuff to the ocean - like it would really work great to add a bigger boss into the water biom
So i was playing with a friend and were both fairly new to the game and we were sailing came across the turtle having no idea what it was, i have a fear of water in games so of course i was panicky and then a sea serpent started attacking us, full on panic mode and we eventually killed it. However my friend started harvesting the chitin and the shaky shaky and noises started. Honestly i didnt need that anxiety my friend caused
hahaha thanks for the story.
i had subnautica ptsd when i saw serpent and leviathan. basically reaper and reefback
It's just a game calm down lol
@@wolfgvming5855 shut up
You forgot to note that the Serpent Shield is Immune to Pierce Damage which is especially handy if you can get it before you enter the Plains.
Getting serpent scales solo is such a pain, even with my current max stamina i cannot kill it while it is dragged to shore with my abyssal harpoon
I have only managed to kill 2 on land out of more attempts and that is because the serpent got stuck on the rocks trying to get back into the water
The part on serpents has some mistakes. I ran some tests on a server to get an idea of how they really work (pathing and spawning). They do not "spawn at night" they're always there. Lets say serpent X spawns at coordinates 11,11. it'll always hang out around there, they seemingly don't have a large roaming path. When you aggro that serpent and kite it all the way to 44.44, it will stay at there forever unless killed. Concerning spawns, they also dont seem to have "respawn" timers, in the sense that they might be a "finite" ressource.
looking at this food looks like it was way better back in the day
I know I'm hella late to this, but when you're fishing, you can just walk away from the shore once the fish has bit and you won't consume stamina while pulling it.
Yup
I actually Travemünde with the Raft alongside the Coast, so there will never Spwan a Serpant. And if i am so close that i dies and it targets me i will eventuelly make it to the Coast.
What song is playing at 9:00
Serpent shield vs death squito, serpent shield goatee,
Only bring stuff needed to make a portal and hut while sailing
ok
I call them turtles too hehe
If I hadn't seen this video and ended up on a sinking leviathan, I think I would be chitin my pants.
that would of been great to know yesterday before i got jumped by a serpant lmao
XD thanks for watching
Serpent scale shield is actually the second best shield when fully upgraded, it doesnt only look nice, but it works pretty well and blocks too, whether it's against fulings, loxes or wolves, so i'd recommend anyone to get it and fully upgrade at least until you get blackmetal shield.
It doesn’t parry so this isn’t true. It is true in terms of blocking power so it’s a good choice for blocking deathsquitos before you get black metal but silver shield can also block them but allows you to parry. Parrying is much more important than block power.
Kite-in :)
I think they changed cooking serpent. You can't cook it ok a tiny wooden thing over a fire anymore. You get a message saying it's not sturdy enough or something. You get this big metal thing you put over a big fire pit. Can't remember the names of it sorry. There's a lot of fish in this game now. You can make different bait using the main bait as an ingredient. Do different fish give you different stats?
It's better to use a harpoon and drag a serpent to land though, the scales do indeed sink!
While the sea/fishing mechanic seemed really cool it doesn't actually do something significant in your gameplay. Fish meat can only give a bit of buff compared to land. Getting the rod is pain in the ass too because you need to find halidor. You can stumble upon him by luck yes, but the rod is kinda pricey sure you could easily get 350 gold but to me it just doesn't worth the resources and time. But sure exploring ocean is fun really especially when in coop hope they would add more content for it and be more rewarding.
Sure, I can see where you’re coming from there. I agree it would be nice if there was a bigger reward for getting the rod. Thanks for watching.
The devs could do more with the trader. Maybe building materials or tools/weapons/armour/potions. Which would help if your death run was in a sticky place and you were struggling to retrieve your best kit.
The fact that giant trolls.. Monster Serpents and flaming elementals are low tier enemies.. And green guys with stick and flying mosquitos are late game top tier enemies.. Shows they litterly trolling.. It's like having dragons as the first enemy then giant rats as the end boss.
Haha 😂 true
They could go smaller than that and have the chance of catching a virus from certain biomes and the option of getting a jab from the trader to make you immune (for a couple of day cycles) so you could safely explore those biomes while vaxxed :)

I've only recently started playing this on Xbox, but the fact that Valheim's seas are still this stagnant is kinda disappointing. No sea based mini bosses (Or mini bosses period), and of all these enemies you're telling me that none of them know how to sail a ship? Not even Fulings or Dwarves? The game is amazing so far, but I feel more should be done with the Vanilla game, especially since mods aren't accessable on Xbox.
