This video just saved me a trip to the mechanic. My 06 stalled out on me, my code reader reported "Cylinder 2, 5 Short to ground". I pulled up the harness and the van started again so I was able to drive home. the next day I pulled the harness off and found Injector 2 wires with exposed copper right by the plastic rail junction. I taped them up with high heat electrical tape, zip tied them in place, cleared codes, and no more stalls or CEL codes.
Ditto on the thank-you's. Great video. Everything well explained, camera work done well, and especially (IMO) nice that you showed both the burn marks and the worn-through insulation from the short. I'm in the process of replacing the harness on my 2005 Sprinter right now.
Great Video. Is there any preventive procedure one could take to prevent this if one has a perfectly functional Sprinter currently and does not want to be in this position via a roulette wheel of when it goes down in the future? Is it possible to lift that wire tray up enough without removing fuel lines to wrap injector wires in thicker insulation as a preventative measure? Anyone ever do this?
I've had this issue for a few years on a 2003 sprinter 2500 and brought it to a few different shops/mechanics and they really couldn't figure it out they replaced a few injectors said they did this and that and charged a bunch of money and a month later same issues came back..(that was BEFORE I figured out what was causing the problem) and then I seen a few videos like this! witch is awesome I'm glad I came across it.... I am now searching around for a new wire harness. Anyone know a company that I could find a replacement?
What were all the symptoms in this vehicle? I didn't hear loss of power as one, but I assuming. I have fixed the blk death in one and now I have this similar issue
This vehicle had an intermittent stalling issue and would set codes for injector circuits 1-3-4 which are fired off the same capacitor in the PCM. Because of this the engine would stall when trying to run on only cylinders 2-5.
@@PGFuelInjection it looks like I have a #2 injector issue, although the scanner said an open #1. I did the test with the clear tubing on the returns and #2 had fuel. It sounds like it's clicking, so must be clogged. Any options for repair?
@@PGFuelInjection it failed the leak off test and was clogged. I saw another video where the vehicle ran well with a failed leak off test. so my question is what goes bad in the injector and at what pt do you replace the injector? Or did I not clean the injector well enough? Do you have a video about this whole topic?
@@frontlinemedia4270 At this time we only have a limited amount of videos on CZcams. We do plan on adding more in the near future. An injector that fails a return flow test is usually from wear in three areas of the injector or a failed internal seal. Excessive return flow can cause hard starting or low power but is not always connected to actual fuel delivery. What was the code for you had for #1 injector? A circuit code could cause an intermittent misfire, stalling or a possible rough running issue but on this five cylinder it would have to be number 2 or 5.
@@PGFuelInjection no scanner here. I took the injector apart at the bottom, couldn't do the top b/c I would have to make the tool or buy one. Didn't realize this injector shoots 7 streams, I only had 5. Figured this out when I bought another used one. All my injectors are re manned by Mercedes, this one failed somewhere inside. Thinking back on this issue, it was multiple. First I would say poor economy, then blk smoke at start up, then stalling, then limp mode, then complete shut dns while driving, then no starts cold. Once I stumbled on to the leak dn test, I was able to make some sense of this. A local shop wants 250 to rebuild, w/ 12 month warranty. I have trouble justifing this. I'm thinking it's the ball and seat having wear, maybe poor quality parts?? I won't know until I get it apart. Definitely need a back up, b/c this could happen again

Thank you for the great information
Thanks for this info, I have the same trouble, have changed all 4 injectors, still same error code P2146 open circuit. It make me crazy.
Excellent presentation. I have a mercedes vito been trying to get to the bottom of injector short to ground faults. I know where to look now.

ok, a new harness might be slight overkill. These wires can be electric taped surely? How much is new harness?
With some customers, down time is a bigger issue than price. In this case the customer requested the harness be changed.
Thank you

If you haven't bought one already, as of 2/2019 EuroPartsSD.com sells them for about $550 plus shipping.
Hi there i have 109cdi 05 , im getting p2051 code reductant injector bank low 2 unit 1,what do u recommend thanks
Can you tell me where the large bunch of wires from the harness disconnect from the vehicle?
The main harness runs over to the driver side, passes through the firewall and connects to the ECM.
