  • In this video I show you how to perform an emergency stop/"One Rein Stop".
    This will enable you to regain control no matter the situation! I refuse to ride horses that I can't teach this to before I get on because its so important.

    I can't help but think of this maneuver as being the "e-brake" for horses. Thank you

    I've talked of this often.
    Its circling your horse to stop it.
    Ive used it for a bolting horse. Also use the " pulley rein " to stop. This is used on the hunt field at times.

    A great video on the one rein stop. The best I've watched on CZcams. The actual live demonstration at a cantor is 100% spot on.

    Amen!!!!! I had to use it this past weekend when my younger walker spooked then proceeded to bolt...I will not ride a horse that cannot do a one-rein stop. It is crucial that the animal and rider practice it until it becomes second nature for the rider and the animal gives easily!

    I love this explanation!!! Just a thought, i found it easier to do a one rein stop with a bitless bridle. I got my homie morgan the morgan, and he’s definitely more content when stopping. Thank you for the video!!!

      Thanks mate! Some horses respect bitless bridles enough that you can have great success with them. Whatever works better for you and your horse! 🙌🏼👍🏼

    What bit

  • @ums3857
    @ums3857 Před rokem +1

    What do you do when horse your pulls back if you try to pull. My horse sometimes reacts perfectly. Other times he doesn't want to and pulls his head away

    • @HorsePerfect
      @HorsePerfect  Před rokem +1

      Good question… it depends on why he’s pulling back… if he’s pulling back because the bit hurts him or something like that then that’s not his fault. Make sure you are using some form of snaffle that is designed for lateral pulling.
      If he’s just pulling away because he’s being bad then you can try to gently bump twice on the rein pulling him. I even say bump bump out loud. Then try to pull him. Sometimes that helps them remember what to do.

  • @Conny226
    @Conny226 Před 9 měsíci +1

    Can you please tell me what bit you have on him?is it broken in the middle?

    • @HorsePerfect
      @HorsePerfect  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Hey there! Sure! In this video I think I'm using a D-Ring Snaffle bit. Yes it is broken in the middle and is designed for lateral pulling like the One Rein Stop. You wouldn't want to do a One Rein Stop in a Solid Shank Bit as it would hurt the horse.

    What if you are on a narrow track?

    • @HorsePerfect
      @HorsePerfect  Před 8 měsíci

      Two options… hold on until the horse stops and try to steer him in a good direction. Or I would try the one rein stop anyway because in most cases the horse would stop as best he can even on a narrow track. It depends what’s around you! Let’s say you have hedges or walls or fences on both sides-in that case I’m definitely doing a ORS. If you have trees or ditches on either side then try to stop him only after you get to an open area. Hope that helps! 😊

    • @equine2020
      @equine2020 Před 16 dny

      Use the " pullly rein" method.
      Brace one hand on the withers, & pull back strongly on the other rein.

  • @MoniekRedhead

    That's how your horse can break his legs, or worse

    • @HorsePerfect
      @HorsePerfect  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Haha horses legs are so strong. It’s also up to the horse how much they stop before you bend their neck around.
      I’d much rather have a horse with a broken leg than break my own neck if I had to choose. Because this is an emergency only move.
