Born 67. Been fired once because I had a loved sis in law taken in a murder suicide and a divorce the next 18 hours. Hate cowards liars and anyone who abuses a child. If I offend, I am glad. GenX is the generation that had no sports heroes, and that is originally how we were defined. Apparently they forgot David and Kerry Von Erich, Jerry Lawler Harley Race, Bruno Sammartino, and by golly, Andre Pete Rose was robbed and I challenge ANYONE to look and tell me Charlie Hustle wasn’t robbed
Class of 1979 similar experience except the Tech part but I'm rocking it now 😎 great time in America except when the establishment crashes our economy periodically
I convinced my parents to get a PC in 1991. My Dad was an easy sell, my Mom not so much. I manged to convince her that it would help me with school, & that's what sold her. 😁 It wasn't a lie though, I totally took advantage of having a top of the line PC. Kids in my German class were in awe of my full-color map print-out of Germany for my regional customs report. 😊 After having the computer for awhile, (& teaching my parents about email), they LOVED it. 😄 They started telling everyone they knew about it & encouraged them to try it. ❤

I would like safe spaces honestly. I felt like nothing was safe growing up some of our parents were damn right abusive. I see ppl going to prison now for things my family just did even in front of ppl. Yea I’m glad I wasn’t always cuddled but also can be jealous of other generations having loving families. There gotta be a good inbetween. I live in what should be one of the greatest times but didn’t get to experience most of the good things others my age did. Not til I was on my own at 16
Not all gen x kids went on to be helicopter parents. My ex (born 1971) and I (born 1970) give our kids the same freedoms we had. But there is a reason for helicopter parents, have you ever heard of the milk carton kids? Yeah that, 1960-1990 more children DISAPPEARED than any other time in record. So those who are helicopter parents have a damn good reason for it. It's called PARANOID
It's called lead poisoning and entitlement, then blame " you stupid lazy kids never go out these days, but no you can't go outside, it's too dangerous!"
Exactly you have to watch your kids more these days it’s sad to say but times were safer when we were growing up. I remember we could leave our doors unlocked but you just can’t do that these days. Also I used to stay over my friends and vice versa. My dad was a little more strict with me and my sister which is understandable but it’s actually smart to be a helicopter parent! After losing multiple friends and my nephew to drug overdose it’s just not safe to let your kids talk to just anyone! Always protect your kids and know where they are because the streets aren’t safe anymore and there is fentanyl everywhere!
As a Gen X'er myself, I don't see any generation more particular special than any other, but I would say we are the middle ground/segway from old to new methodology and that's the only thing that makes us somewhat important. plus our common sense, we will be the last generation to remember what life was like before the advent of computers, but we still had lots going on such as TV, Radio for social context. we also know the value of things and how to extend the life of objects well beyond their fair use date... life's been great as a Gen X'er and I an thankful for being born in 71. We have the common sense in abundance and truly know that there are only 2 genders..... I'm now 52 and have 3 kids, peace to you all. I hope you all have great lives.
Why gen -x looks the same age as their adult kids. Why? I tell the kids we had a fountain of youth. It's called that green water hose. We drank out of that all year around!!!!!!!

Gen X here, class of 88. You better believe I was a helicopter parent to my Gen Z...when it came to the internet and social media. Some of the most dangerous "dark alleys at night" are online with the illusion of being safe in your home.
"Carefree"?...there were some very big reasons that we were all latchkey children. The divorce rate skyrocketed, destroying families. The cost of living increased so quickly due to government mismanagement, that BOTH parents had to work, leaving their children to fend for themselves. MTV was our babysitter and Hot Pockets and microwave dinners were our meals.
Born in 1973. I LOVE being Gen-X. Self-consumed boomer parents, weak millennial younger siblings, and don't get me started on my gen-z kids, lmao. Sucked at the time, but these days I am glad my baby boomer parents ignored me and left me alone 90% of the time. I can survive ANYTHING. And so can most of my Generation. If global catastrophe hit i surmise we'd be the only one's left after it was all over.
Born in 1970. My vagest memory, was at graduation, i overheard some classmates say they werent raising their kids as they were raised. Never thought anything of it back then, but it makes perfect sense now.
This! My kids are 9 & 6, they spend almost all day outside without supervision. (After doing their chores) I don't want my kids to need courses in "adulting" when they grow up.
You definitely were you guys were always scared of your Shadow and never let your kids go out and played like you guys say you did back in your day now they can't even tell what gender they are
GenX is pretty much Silent Gen 2.0. We get forgotten a lot but we're sturdy, smart, work hard, and future generations won't forget us. We're the ones holding everything together right now, I honestly think the world would truly end without us, lol! Both of my Zoomer kids are a wee bit jealous of me because I heard all the best music and saw so many cool bands, before you had to sell your firstborn to get a ticket, like now. My mama is a Boomer, but she's a very cool Boomer, love my mama! Daddy was Silent Gen, he went Home 11 years ago. I learned a lot of resilience, discernment, and patience from both of them.
Microsoft and Apple were created by Boomers(one of whom didn't even create Windows OS but took credit for someone else's hard work) and the majority of Nintendo's classic video game IPs from the 1980s and early 1990s were created by Boomer-aged Japanese men. The only Gen X-aged person from Nintendo I can think of who is well-known and well-revered for creating a few great video game franchises is Masahiro Sakurai(he's responsible for creating the Kirby and Super Smash Bros franchise).
I should show you more respect because you're taking credit for something someone else who is roughly your age did? And yet I keep hearing it's the younger generations that think they should get participation trophies? This is why no one listens to gen x. It's not because you're scary, or because of your lack of fucks, it's because of our lack of fucks... And the fact that you all seem to have inflated egos. Source: the title of this short alone.
Um Gen X and a good amount of my friends in my 20s were gay men still prefer gay men and woman as friends then toxic males. Men were also 💩 a lot of the times. Personally I’m happy for the younger generation calling some of that crap out! So speak for yourself. We also were the generation of New Age music and hair mental so please stop! We had plenty of gay icons that just were not comfortable being themselves til later.
We were the last generation to see a different world using our minds… and not “we can think of an app and have A. I. create it…” we could have a jungle gym and see a pirate ship, a spaceship, a thunder dome, a prison girls put boys in and we had to escape and got chased around by the girls all recess, an arena for feats of strength and survival… just from having an imagination and actually going outside and actually physically interacting with other human beings instead of being glued to the internet.
Not to mention we were and continue to be emotional and tech support for our silent generation grandparents, boomer parents, and babysitters for our millennial little siblings.
Gen X'rs effn rock and I know because I am one... I was a surrogate mother to my 4 younger siblings from the age of 12-18..... But that was ok because it wasn't odd back then ahhhhhh the 80's.... 😊
We make the world work with little or no recognition and often while receiving neglect from boomers and ungrateful disdain from late millennials and gen a.
I'm a gen-x without any real mechanical experience which means all I can really do for a vehicle is plug a radiator, fix flats and change tires, change the oil and filter and top off fluids. Some of my gen-x chums were actually mechanics and I always respected that.
as an elder gen z, i’m don’t even feel lonely anymore. seems like all people bring into your life is drama. i was tired of being used as that one “dr. phil friend” who is only addressed when someone has an issue in their life and needs someone to dump on. i have no desire or energy to listen to others’ issues anymore. i also have no desire to always be the first to reach out anymore. people complain about feeling “lonely” but no one actually wants to make an effort to connect. it’s a joke.
As a Gen X, I can tell you that my grandfathers generation put men in space for the first time, and even landed men on the moon for the first time. I would argue that as a Gen X we are not the greatest generation. However, we may be the greatest generation still alive.
We had the perfect life! I will admit some of my old friends and others my age somewhere down the line got way too easy on their kids. Raised a bunch of snowflakes. Spared the rod and spoiled the child. These are the kids now in their 20s (early or late) and are totally disrespectful and act like everything they want or need should be brought on a silver platter and their parents are catering to it. 🙄🥴
‘68 here. I was a latchkey/feral child. I wasn’t a helicopter parent. I let my boys make mistakes and learn from them. They are now successful, independent adults.
We are the best generation we can survive anything live without internet not scared of nothing and definitely will say anything to your face and back it up with our fist and straight up dont care about feelings
I can't stop thinking about how when we're shipped off to nursing homes, we"ll be the generation that knows all the words to baby got back. I mean the stuff we danced to we'll be doing in the home..:/ a lot of backs and hips are going to pop. Anything before that, it's fine, we'll handle it. Not bothered. The only bad thing is realising we're now the adult taking care of kids who are adults but deficient in every life skill we learned by 12.

Gen X made soccer a legitimate sport in the US. We are the generation that made the Dodge Caravan an automotive legend that everyone wanted to own and drive. The older kids we had to look up to were drug addicts, Grateful Dead fans and draft dodgers, and the ones just after us were a bunch of pussies we weren't allowed to shove into their lockers. We are also the last generation to get proper smallpox and polio vaccines. X marks the spot, and we will be the last ones standing. I found Ruinite Lambrusco at my local grocery recently. Tasted like Saturday night at the Mohawk Drive-in. Great memories 💖
real gen X are from 67 to 77 right ? i saw 78 people so different....and people from the 65 with boomer attituds or ways of thinking.... is that correct ?
We are simultaneously the last generation of the classical age, and the first generation of the Information Age. When we pass, for better or for worse, much of the old world dies with us.
We bridged between the industrial age and the technological age so know both. We were also a little feral due to being kicked out of the house at weekends and summer evenings. No health and safety codling so we had to have our wits about us. We were beaten when caught misbehaving so we learned to not get caught. All this and more made us self reliant, tough and capable.
So things are good now . . But your parents are getting old and it's not unheard of at some point they probably will need your help . . But from the comment you sound like you would rather put your parents in a nursing home rather than look after them yourself . . . When your getting up in age . . One day can change everything .
One of the most important and amazing things about generation X is that we could not be easily brainwashed like the other generations. There’s something spiritually different about us. Perhaps we are the early indigos. But we are the most awake generation on the planet right now. 💯
I would space generations with 20 year slices. 15 is not really enough. Basically, Xers are already well entrenched in the workforce and the power structure as the older Xers are at the beginning of their 60s while the younger ones of the batch are at the beginning of their 40s.
Older Xers aren't quite 60 yet. The oldest will be 58 next year. However, if going by some demographers, the oldest will still only be right at 60. Because of the changing workforce and economy, we are the 1st generation that could not count on being able to retire and receive a pension from working at one job for 30 years. Pension...what is that? 🤣
In fact, demographers and sociologists define generations normally every 20 years, except that the Real Generation X is a separate case and was born (are only a Decade generation) between 67 to 77 (on XX century)....boomers are from 1946 to 1966 everyone borns between 1978 to 1998 goes to be Millenials, Zoomers after 1999 to 2019...alpha generation (first entire born on XXI century) now that generation is from 2020 to probably 2040... Gen X got the special situation that be a bridge of just only a particular decade because of interesting and challenging convergence of political and tech aspects: cold war, religious consequences of ecumenism made by the end of vatican council II, nuclear threat, equity rights bases and racial Diversity, weed legal use battle, hippie activism, more legal divorces, latchkeys kids (some kind of indepedence and imagination from early ages) plus all the develop of Digital technology, Space Search, e-mail @ symbol protocol use on arpanet (previous to open internet use on 1991), medical foundation of huge advances, big Industrial Design innovation, video games, cartoons and musical videos, disco, hip hop, new wave, rock, sports leagues with international coverage, fast food, globalism market plus better and modern logistics....
Our defining characteristic is cynicism. We grew up on our own and as such we simply do not trust anyone but ourselves to navigate life on earth. We may be the last generation to own our own homes. We were weaker and softer than the greatest generation (I'm skipping over boomers because they are the most spoiled generation) just like millennials, gen y, and whatever the newest gen is called are weaker and softer than we are. It's the way of things.
Never! We are immortal! As a collective generation we were exposed to so many artificial colours, flavours and preservatives that we will never decay, we will never die. We will scream ‘F**k you!’ And beat you down with our Zimmers at 192 years of age! We will smother you with our flannels without beating an eyelid. We will take your eyes out with our lawn darts and slap bands! All the whole while bopping along to our mix tapes, sipping Everclear and HiC!

In short, we quickly learned what survived the test of the "real world" what "worked" and what was "movie bullshit". This means we have little tolerance for the non-pragmatic or ideal. We want the rough around the edges, perhaps ugly as sin solution that WORKS!
For myself at least its never been "Form over function", or even "Function over form" but rather "Function over everything".
Me too because that's what i've always been told and what i've always believed. But I guess I'm in some reject situation Is being born in 83. Because that's what the new data says.... You know despite everything else that they're trying to do new pissing us all off. Because the very same people are giving our kids hormone blockers without telling us. They think that a new math that is never accurate is correct. And we all have a problem with that. because it's not correct..... But this Everyone chooses Too rally behind And outcast five years of genx Dividing us even further but no worries because this... This is correct..... See why i'm irritated? I was born in 1983. I'll never be a millennial. I would rather send 1to the hospital and me to prison than to ever claim that. Do you know what it is like to be forgotten by the forgotten generation? GenX is the generation that had no sports heroes, and that is originally how we were defined.
Apparently they forgot David and Kerry Von Erich, Jerry Lawler Harley Race, Bruno Sammartino, and by golly, Andre
Pete Rose was robbed and I challenge ANYONE to look and tell me Charlie Hustle wasn’t robbed
Class of 1979 similar experience except the Tech part but I'm rocking it now 😎 great time in America except when the establishment crashes our economy periodically
Was 9 yrs old in 1987 miss the 80s
Gen X realised they needed to teach their parents technology and learn technology from their kids
After having the computer for awhile, (& teaching my parents about email), they LOVED it. 😄 They started telling everyone they knew about it & encouraged them to try it. ❤
Na some of us just figured it out for ourselves cause we are used to teaching ourselves 💩
Nope, we are good at tech
My kids learn from me. I am IT to them.
No my dad teaches me how internet works his college was one of the developers of the internet he graduated the year after I'd anything they teaching us still
I love being Generation X
Also being the smallest generation. It's an exclusive club and the best generation on this planet.
Smallest generation, really?

Boomer here , now that is 100percent right 👍
@@BLACKSHEEP59I miss my Boomer mom and dad.😢
What the hell is "safe space" 😂
I would like safe spaces honestly. I felt like nothing was safe growing up some of our parents were damn right abusive. I see ppl going to prison now for things my family just did even in front of ppl. Yea I’m glad I wasn’t always cuddled but also can be jealous of other generations having loving families. There gotta be a good inbetween. I live in what should be one of the greatest times but didn’t get to experience most of the good things others my age did. Not til I was on my own at 16
Yeah, and unfettered abuse was rampant. Let's not romanticize.
Born in 69 and am grateful for my common sense.
It's called PARANOID
and we wanted to be better, more loving parents than we had.
Yeah, people who brag about free range kids ignore that.
it's not paranoia of they're really out to get you tho
As a genX born in 1975 ..” did you just threaten me “
Why gen -x looks the same age as their adult kids. Why? I tell the kids we had a fountain of youth. It's called that green water hose. We drank out of that all year around!!!!!!!
Lmao

We survived the most narcissistic generation ever to walk to the earth so we learned to thrive in adversity.

1967 GenXer here. My kids are Gen Z and Gen Alpha. Definitely not a helicopter parent. Leave that to the Millennials! 😂
As a millennial I would like to say: HIT ME, HIT ME WITH YOUR CAR
@Amy Ritchie Tell me about it
Born in 1970. My vagest memory, was at graduation, i overheard some classmates say they werent raising their kids as they were raised. Never thought anything of it back then, but it makes perfect sense now.
And that's where we f*cked up!
We were DEF NOT helicopter parents. That’s the older millennials
Remember the Atlanta child abductions? That changed everything.
This! My kids are 9 & 6, they spend almost all day outside without supervision. (After doing their chores) I don't want my kids to need courses in "adulting" when they grow up.
You definitely were you guys were always scared of your Shadow and never let your kids go out and played like you guys say you did back in your day now they can't even tell what gender they are
Truth
Nah, we aren't even having kids....just dogs and cats.
My parents were SG, I think that's why they told us to figure it out.
let them ignore us, dont give a dam lol

I liked the 90s more. 80s was a lot of bad times for me. But I can see how it could been great for some. It looks better remembering it.
Without Gen X, companies like microsoft, apple, nintendo, etc wouldnt exist so millenials and gen z should show us more respect.

I. create it…” we could have a jungle gym and see a pirate ship, a spaceship, a thunder dome, a prison girls put boys in and we had to escape and got chased around by the girls all recess, an arena for feats of strength and survival… just from having an imagination and actually going outside and actually physically interacting with other human beings instead of being glued to the internet.

as an elder gen z, i’m don’t even feel lonely anymore. seems like all people bring into your life is drama. i was tired of being used as that one “dr. phil friend” who is only addressed when someone has an issue in their life and needs someone to dump on. i have no desire or energy to listen to others’ issues anymore. i also have no desire to always be the first to reach out anymore. people complain about feeling “lonely” but no one actually wants to make an effort to connect. it’s a joke.
We bridged between the industrial age and the technological age so know both. We were also a little feral due to being kicked out of the house at weekends and summer evenings. I'm quite happy being ignored, the lunatics in the younger generations can fight amongst themselves all they want.
We will allways be cool, full stop.
I'm 41 born in 81 I'm not a gen x, I'm a xennial/millennial.
In fact, demographers and sociologists define generations normally every 20 years, except that the Real Generation X is a separate case and was born (are only a Decade generation) between 67 to 77 (on XX century)....boomers are from 1946 to 1966
everyone borns between 1978 to 1998 goes to be Millenials, Zoomers after 1999 to 2019...alpha generation (first entire born on XXI century) now that generation is from 2020 to probably 2040...
We still dont give a fuck

Our defining characteristic is cynicism. We grew up on our own and as such we simply do not trust anyone but ourselves to navigate life on earth. We may be the last generation to own our own homes.
