Honestly, I think the storyline actually benefitted from not interacting with the Professor very much, since it kept them as an enigmatic figure who kept the player guessing what their deal was. In doing that, they made the punch with the reveal that much more impactful, since unless you paid REALLY close attention or were spoiled beforehand, you didn't know what you were getting into, and to some extent you still didn't even when going into battle.
Honestly, if/when there is DLC, there are a few plot points and holes they need to fill (notably the implied "hexagonal shell" Pokemon that apparently powered Area Zero somehow) and also, maybe, give Arven a happier ending. Poor guy deserves it.

I almost feel that the room the time machine is in is that shell pokemon. They are inside of it, maybe the time machine itself is apart of its workings. The professor merely fiddled and modified it to be a time machine. After all, paradox pokemon were there before the time machine was built, so perhaps it was more of a means to fully control the time transportation anomaly than fully making it from scratch.

Both Sada and Turo are canon to both versions of the game. Depending which version you play, either Sada or Turo divorces the other and leaves Paldea region sometime after Arven is born. The professor who stays in Paldea gains full custody of Arven. They left because their ex became more unhinged and sunk into the time machine research as time went by. Arven lost his custodial parent and became an orphan when he was around 7-10 years old, 10 years prior to the game’s events.

Also I honestly think there was some sort of build up. I mean at least the professor wasn’t revealed only in the end. Plus there was enough dialogue from the AI professor to know he’s a character in the game so you were at least aware of him. Plus there were books inside the research stations that the OG professor took and in research station 4 the notes he took have a different vibe basically telling us that he went to far into his research and became somewhat crazy and obsessed. Professor Turo/Sada was definitely a professor but is not THE professor of this generation. It's actually headmaster Clavell because he's the one giving you your first Pokémon and sends you on your way. Even though the biology teacher made the pokedex app, you didn't get it from him personally but from Nemona and Clavell. You also usually meet your rival sometime when you interacted with the main professor and got your first Pokémon. In this case you meet Nemona while Clavell is around. In addition, every generation of Pokémon had the main professor be named after a plant of some sort I believe. In this generation, Clavell is the one to continue the tradition. Everyone else doesn't. Even though Turo and Sada were advertised as being the main professors in trailers and stuff, it was probably more of an attempt to confuse everyone on who the villain truly is, as all story paths featured characters with the potential of becoming the villain.
However, all this doesn't change how awesome the fight against AI Turo/Sada was. The music was a banger too.

What I find really interesting and what makes this possibly the final showdown of any other game in the series is the lack of an actual villain. Sure, you do fight something, but it's not a person. It's a program that's used to protect the time machine. The professor is long dead and all that remains are their ideals, which are carried by the opposing A.I. Also, unless I'm misremembering, didn't they say they could only stay operable so long as the crystals that made up the time machine remained within range? If so, that means Professor A.I probably stopped functioning after entering the rift or reaching the past/future. Maybe I'm missing something though.

Pokemon finally feels like it got the stakes right. The world-threatening villain was growing stale by Gen 3, though Gen 5 at least flipped the trope on its head by making N sympathetic. Gen 9 has no villain, but the world also isn't really threatened. Yeah, Paldea would get a bit more hectic if the paradox forms kept coming through, but it's the type of thing four kids and their pokemon could reasonably handle on their own. So it feels way more natural than when, in Gen 8, the villain suddenly goes nuclear and a 10-year-old for some reason is the world's only hope.

However here it’s honestly reasonable. Arven, Penny, and Nemona’s backgrounds are all ones that’d get them pretty far as trainers. The player is just the average prodigy. They are all strong but not “Take on the literal god of the sea” strong. And it shows, this isn’t a battle with a legendary against the big bad. This is a battle against a misled man’s will overpowering a machine. This is a battle against a normal Pokémon, just from the past or future. Paldea’s ecosystem’s at stake but that feels very reasonable as opposed to the time machine killing everything. People would honestly be willing to trust 4 prodigies here in the world of Pokémon.

And Arven’s performance is great too I love how he just feels human to me. I pray to every god there is that this becomes the start of game freak actually trying to fix themselves. To briefly explain: There are hints throughout Area Zero that the Disk Legendary (the third one) can mess with people's minds. When the AI Professor got mind-controlled by the system...that was foreshadowing what happened to the REAL professor. This evil creature drove him mad so he would forget all about his kid and do what it wanted. The AI professor didn't have the insanity. That's why he still loved his son! Like, remember how Lillie & Gladion got Lusamine back in SuMo, but she was sickly after fusing with Nihilego as the Mother Beast? She came back, and in USUM we saw Lusamine get some closure with Mohn when he didn’t remember her. And then of course their family reunited in the anime and got a happy ending. But Arven gets a fraction of that. He gets some closure, sure, but his only parent is still dead in the game’s final hour, and it wasn’t a quick or painless way to go I’m sure.
We’re told in the tutorial phases of most Pokémon games the worry of going into tall grass without a partner Pokémon as a means of self defense, and for Sada or Turo to go out protecting our legendary from the attack of a 2nd one, they most likely got maimed…and left to bleed out under the debris on the left side of the 4th Research Station. They die a cold, and lonely death in one of the deepest parts of Area Zero, in the crystallized cavern of the Great Crater, far away from civilization, and with too little strength to even crawl to one of the now inactive machines, to put out an s.o.s. Chances are, they died in the first hours of the game, cuz WE SEE Koraidon/Miraidon flee from the Crater in the intro movie before they crash on the beach…That’s likely following the incident where it flees from the other of its kind, with just the chilling memory of the professor’s recent death in its mind. I imagine as it collapsed on the beach, Sada/Turo took their final breath as well…

The ending actually made me cry a little it's been a long time sense a pokemon game has been able to do that

I completed Path of Legends second. Can confirm you need to complete Victory Road and Starfall Street first because the prerequisite is to gather 3 allies.

Did anyone else think that the AI professor killed or locked the original professor somewhere? Because that’s what I thought 💀😭 The AI profs were the good professors afterall

Well, originally they first games had Prof. Oak as a last challenger, same with how Red was somehow the last challenge for Johto. Then I think they abandoned the trend of giving extra final bosses after the main campaign was complete (?)

It's funny how we get a game with a time machine right after the game that had us be thrown in the past. Makes me wonder if the next game is going to take us back to the future...

Probably the pokemon game ending that feels the most like a pokemon movie, which always had wayy better storylines

Another thing about the paradox pokemons and the box legendaries is how they don't appear in the other version of the game lorewise, making it really strange

It’s kind of implied the entity in area zero might be creating the paradox pokémon based on what the respective Pokémon is obsessed with

I finished the titan questline first, and yes, you have to finish the other two as well before Arven calls you to tell you the location of the gate.
that aside though, the whole AI thing kinda took me by surprise, ngl. Been dedicated Pokémon game fan since the Let's Go games (though I've been watching the anime since I was a kid), and I have to say, the ending in Area Zero was probably the best one yet.
