Uruguay is great, but I recommend any holidaymaker to avoid Montevideo and Punte del Esta, just too expensive and doesn't really reflect the country.

Uruguay IS NOT so safe! In fact, according to what employees at 5-star hotels say, there are dangerous neighborhoods, forbidden for tourists. I was the victim of a pickpocket in Montevideo in one of my visits as a tourist. Another negative aspect: the legalization of marijuana, unlike other South American countries. In terms of jobs, Uruguay is not a paradise either. Several Uruguayans have left the country in search of better opportunities, in particular, towards Brazil.

There are worst places believe me. No where in the world is a utopia because there is always inequality in society with some rare exceptions. So 'bad' neighborhoods normally come from poorer areas where people are not so well off to afford 5 star hotel living
