    I met Chip when we were 7 & 6 years old. BFF- baseball,football,golf,cards,board games,same college,sharing joys/losses. He best at gin,Stratego,Chess,Backgammon,Spades,Hearts, Bridge,Euchre,Pinnocle,Fish. He ran a kids casino out of his garage on Brandwynne Ct. when his teacher-mother Sunny had in-service meetings. Smartest thing I ever did was to stop playing him for money when we were 11. He was one in a million, a true winner. MM CHS 70, DC 74

    Yup. Consider this: Doyle says he never once saw Chip raise his voice in anger to an opponent. He was a total class act, extremely intelligent (Dartmouth grad, got into Stanford Law), fiercely competitive, generous to a fault (he would loan out money to lower level players all the time). If you're a poker player, he is someone to emulate!!

    Also, here's what Doyle said about Chip: "Chip Reese has always given me more trouble than anybody. He's the only player that I have any apprehension about playing with. He's always held over me... I don't know... he just outplays me. I've played tight against him, I've played liberally, but no matter what I do it just seems like he beats me. It's gone on a long time so, consequently, I think he's the best player all around."

    Stu played in WSOPs where there are 90 donks and 10 good players. In tournaments, as the blinds go up, luck also plays a big role. Chip's been playing cash games where the blinds stay same and skill plays a bigger role. He won consistently in the big game against the BEST players for 20 years!

      Swineytodd17 , no doubt Stu Ungar was a great player but Stu never understood the elements of discipline, time management, bankroll management and especially personal growth. Stu found a drug habit and burnt out early and was begging on the streets 12 yrs after winning the 1981 WSOP main event. The players that stood the test of time learned from their mistakes and continued to prosper and for that Chip Reese gets the edge.
      I do agree with you may they both RIP.

  • @EGarrett01
    @EGarrett01 Před 15 lety

    One cold deck can end a heads-up match...but the definition of a "cold deck" depends a LOT on who is playing.
    If you put two 6's on the board, and one guy has 63 in the whole and the other K6...most people would consider that a cold deck and go broke. But a lot of pro's could probably get away from it.
    Another example is, of course, Doyle getting QQ against Chip's Kings, with undercards on the flop, and Doyle getting after making one bet and reading Chip's minraise correctly.

  • @Gforcebond
    @Gforcebond Před 16 lety +1

    I would have to believe that part of the reason of his heart attack was probably from his poker life. The cause of death is not certain which is a little shaddy but from what the pro's say it was his heart since he had heart surgery not to long ago. All u can do is feel for his family. Forget poker just pray for his family.

    @Rvd420WHAT It's hilarious to watch High Stakes Poker & watch Phil spend so much time & energy trying to show the cash pros that he can win playing really bad cards. Other guys @ that table do it (Negreaneu, Farha) but THEY read the other great players really well and can get away from a hand when beat. Hellmuth--tho also the victim of some bad luck on that show--consistently fails 2 figure out what's going on until too late. He's great @ outplaying bad players in the tournament setting though.

  • @dantean
    @dantean Před 14 lety

    @Rvd420WHAT: The televised tournament poker boom has made overnight legends out of lots of guys to the detriment of guys who didn't get their faces on TV playing tournaments. Many tournament pros ONLY play tournaments and so think of great players in that arena only. Sadly, this has influenced the non-playing public into believing that, say, Hellmuth is the "world's greatest poker player," while the cash game pros know him as the greatest one-trick pony ever. The educated know Chip was king!
