If anyone needs to empty their pool then there are companies who will " store " your water for you and re-deliver it at a later date, obviously you don't get your water back and for a charge. I never used this service as i just used my hose but i know people that do this. Maybe this is what your viewer was talking about.
Hi Stu, I was surprised the other day by the amount of people coming to Spain on the golden visa from communist countries compared to those coming from democracies. I may be wrong, as I believed that in communist regimes all citizens were equal. Obviously, some are more equal than others. Regards. Mick.

Currently the United Kingdom is growing at 0.5, not to say that it is in recession.

I think the maybe the abuse comment is to do with brits who move to spain and want things to be the same as when they were in the uk..they make demands and think they are self entitled because being british is some kind of immunity to having to live by the rules of not just the country itself but of the locals. This is bound to annoy native locals. I was born here but grew up and lived in Cornwall England and the same there, people would move there from the cities etc and then try and turn the place in to what they left behind and expected the locals to bow to their every whim. If you have an attitude its probably best not to leave your own country. That said I have never seen any abuse from the Spanish.. only between expats.
There are going to be a lot of very rich politicians,Corruption lives on.

Hi Stu, always good to hear your posts. As somebody who would have bought a modest property in Spain or the canaries I would have made a bad investment as things stand. I want Spain and the Canaries to understand how we flock there for sun, warmth and culture, not trouble and chaos. As a professional landlord, I surmise it’s the citizens of those countries who sub let, Airbnb and short let their properties at an accelerated rate, do so and deny their own families a home. Greed is becoming a divisive issue in Spain and the Canaries. I will give both a wide berth now and look elsewhere for holidays. The UK should have a tit for tat reciprocal policy where we place the same restrictions on incoming Spaniards and Canadians to the UK.

The issue with housing in the Canaries is a lot more complex than the politicians would have you believe. Nobody is building new properties destined for the residential market, because residents simply cannot afford to pay a price high enough to cover the current costs (which have gone up a lot). The reason that they cannot afford to pay these prices is because jobs generated by tourism just do not pay well enough, and the amount that Hotels can charge is capped by competition from developing countries with much lower wages and costs.
And even with the current rental prices, the residential housing market is not attractive to investors as the ROI is very low - lower than interest currently paid by banks.
I know of many Viviendas Vacacionales near me that have very low occupancy, but their owners actually prefer to earn less because they are all terrified that if they rent long-term, then the tenant will eventually stop paying and become a squatter. It's not hard to find stories in the local papers where relationships between owner and tenant/squatter have become violent and even lethal in some cases.
The real answer has to be diversification away from mass sun and sand tourism, as the economics of that industry can only take an economy so far, and many tourists (especially those staying all-inclusive) don't care if their 7 night holiday is in a hotel in Egypt, or Tunisia or wherever.
Last month I was lucky enough (at my age) to be able to complete the wonderful "Cama de Cavalls", a 183 hike around the island of Menorca. One thing very noticeable was that only the 3 main towns were occupied, the rest of the Island (around the coast) was like a ghost town. I recall walking through the (deserted) North West resort of Cala Morell and coming across huge holiday homes, say, more than say 1,000 square metres. The Tour Company told me that some of these are only occupied for 2 weeks of the year!
OK, I am an old capitalist at heart, but I beieve there is something very wrong here.
The very rich can afford vacation homes. This has been true since Roman times. For them a getaway vacation is an insignificant cost. While that is a large home to you and I, it is small for the very rich.
@@susanaescriba977 Great point Susana, but when I was there the local inhabitants got their living either by working in the construction/property maintenance industry or in the tourist industry in the high season. One guy said those summer workers saved enough money to live through the winter without employment....nice situation.
@@goldgeologist5320 Even after 2,000 years, there is till something very wrong when working people cannot afford basic accommodation. The central town of Ferreries was my favourite place because only locals lived and worked there.

UK problems are it's over population in England.
Málaga is slowly becoming a nearly year round destination. Not really January, though even then there's 10 hours of light a day. But those Winter lets discounts are going/gone. The centro has really been took over with AirBnBs - I think they should be limited to 40% of a barrio (the minority basically). Much is made of the move to quality/5* tourists, but I don't see most locals getting any of that additional revenue; tourism has low paid jobs generally, yet their rents have soared even in the West of the city of the city which is traditionally more Spanish locals.
That's really too bad. I didn't stay in an Airbnb at all while in Spain in the middle of Winter. I stayed in Hotels on purpose. The year round tourism in Málaga was awful. Which made me really sad. I wish I'd seen it years ago when it was a fishing town. Oh well.
Was planning in the not so far future to make Spain a winter destination, but lately, I'm not sure anymore (fortunately, the golden visa doesn't affect me or wouldn't affect me, as I don't need it if I wanted to live there half the year.
Pool fill with tanker trucks is common. I did the math when liner replaced. The water utility bill was higher than tanker truck refill. This can very from place to place. Also, truck is quicker, and also utility company monitors usage and may upcharge or interrupt large volume flows - like a pool fill from the house.
My pool fill was 100 euro from the tap compared to 500 from the tanker.. Seven months ago
Filled mine for free... Less of course; the infrastructure costs... Rainwater and 90,000 litre deposito.... Two fingers up to the profiteers.

What called my attention the most was that something is going to spend money in CÁCERES! Lots of lithium there. Others wanted only the metal while the Chinese go further.
Scrapping of the golden visa will only affect those coming in - existing GV holders will be grandfathered in so they’ll be fine.

Creating social housing is not the answer at all. These places always end up being poorly main eventually slums. The question to ask is if so many people are demanding housing, why are the entrepreneurs not there to supply them with it??? The answer usually lies in government regulations which prevents the construction à affordable housing. The bigger the supply, the more competitiveness there will be and the bigger drop in price you will see. My home country, Canada, is now the second place in the world where, on average, housing is the most expensive. Government is trying to blame it on massive immigration but the numbers show that construction significantly dropped and that politicians often stop projects and so on (which would be long to explain). In short housing is a bad government solution to a problem that it created.
Not quite.. Even when you have the purchasing power to qualify for the GV, just paying a lawyer to get on another visa isn't as straight forward. Many of us who were planning on applying for a GV have the money but we also own businesses in our respective countries, so if we apply for let's say the Non Lucrative Visa, now we can't actively work, so how can we continue to run our companies? That's why the GV was so attractive, because it allows us to continue operating our businesses.
It seems like the issue of property owners being fined for living in their property instead of renting to the tourism market, as per their license; is a strange outcome of local politics. My gut tells me it has to do with the local government there being PP (right to far right), and that there is no central national law to prevent them from having such licenses and measures in the first place.
The Chinese building manufacturing plant inside the EU means they will avoid import duties on their products. That is a substantial loss of import duties income into the EU and national coffers. It may also damage the income and jobs of EU producers. And the EU are subsidising them to the tune of 300 million Euros for the pleasure of this loss of income and jobs. But once again short term political gain wins over long term industrial planning.

Do Tesla's burn? because they are Chinese-made batteries, they are made by a manufacturer called ByD and they also make cars.
@@McLarry88 Maybe the Tesla batteries are made by a different company and to a different spec, But the vids show a lot of the cars in China that catch fire.
@@mickm7786 The Chinese today make the best batteries in the world. They own the entire rare earth production chain from extraction, refining and processing. And they own almost the entire world market.
Just imagine every second suburban home in a drought-prone area having a swimming pool and needing 2 fresh fill-ups a year, by hose or tanker, that is an average of 60m3 of water, 60 000 litres of that crystal gold. Some of us may think they are entitled to it, others may even think it's a basic human right, but all it is, is an obscene and degenerate piece of human disregard for sustainability.

Long term reasonable cost here Spain has been a issue since the 1980s , where tourist season arrives . Its nothing new .
so instead of imports, China domiciles in Spain. Than often turns out to be a very ad choice

Think it is more likely that they want an entry to EU markets.
Housing in Spain is a mess and a lot of it has to do with the Spanish who own the properties. Properties over 500k effects very very few Spanish. They should chance the laws or maybe it already is like this. that is should be 500k or more on one property, since most short term rentals are lower priced apartments under 200k atleast down here in Seville. Foreign investment decline will not solve the problem.
For me I am having a hard time finding a place to live because of how the Spanish handle long term rental. I am looking for an apartment, I am an American with and Nei, I own a company in America and all my income comes from America my fiancé who is a Spanish citizen doesn’t work because she stays home with our 2 year old daughter. We want to move into a new apartment they are building a lot here in Seville, but we can’t because they want my Spanish fiancé to show her income and won’t take mine, even thought I offered to pay a years rent upfront with a 2 month security deposit, they still deny us. Stating we need a Spanish income… Which makes no sense to me, I show them my tax returns from America and my current contract with clients but they care about is how much my fiancé makes. These are 1200€ a month apartment they want a monthly income of 4500€ which Is not an issue for me but in Seville that is a very very high salary I don’t know the exact percentage but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was less the 15% if the population. They are building houses here and they are new beautiful buildings hut they stay vacant because of the requirements Spanish companies want in tenants. I don’t know if it’s because of the law allowing squatting to be easier but it is very frustrating.

The 47th article of the Spanish Constitution says that all Spaniards have the right to live in a decent house and obligates to the public authorities to make this right effective.

We're going to need these batteries and the facilities that build them. Would you rather wait for a shipment from a "offshore" manufacturer, or Spanish built, by Spaniards? Answer seems clear to me.

The Spanish just built their own submarine, which by the way the Spanish invented. They sell LHD to Türkiye and 2 Australia.
The British Challengers in Ukraine have not lasted even 15 minutes in battle.
And in Spain the supermarkets always have products, not like on that Island, which is starting to look like Cuba.
They won't be Spanish built, the Chinese will bring their own workers to work their factories, along with that, they will also bring over their own regards for nature and laws, which they have none.

Thy have totally ruined the short turn holiday lets in Mallorca by stopping air b and b it costs to much for a licence now otherwise there would be plenty of accommodation.
